A great nostalgic read! I used to love reading Fear Street books as a teen, so seeing these again definitely brings back memories. While aimed at YA readers, adults might enjoy the trip down memory lane. Though this is considered a horror book, I would say it’s tame enough for younger readers to enjoy as well. At just under six hours, it’s definitely a doable listen.

Very standard, extremely familiar Fear Street novel. I love that reading this through audiobook (excellent narrator!) felt like returning home to my pre teen fascination with Scary Books. Of course, it was horribly predictable, as any Fear Street book would be, but it delivers exactly what you would want when picking up an R L Stine book: stereotypes, cheerleaders, red herrings, and twist endings!

Ok, I've been loving the Fear Street Re-launcehes lately, but this one wasn't my fave. I kind of knew going in that it might not be as I'm not a huge "chearleader" story kind of person, but I wanted to give it a chance since it's horror.

The story wasn't terrible, it was good for what it was. The characters were not quite as hashed out as in in some other books and I'll just go ahead and assume it was for the "mystery" of it. I'm also not sure why it's calling the MC Heather in the Synopsis, since the MC's name is Gretchen.... I was just about to say that Gretchen was the most interesting one, but became very confused by the synopsis, so be aware there is something misleading here or I'm completely clueless. lol

Anyway, I liked the little twist with Gretchen and what we find out about her best friend she left behind. However, I did not think that the other twist was the best. I mean, I didn't see it coming at all and I felt like it didn't quite make as much sense as it could have. Could just be me...

Still a great read for a young reader, just not for me.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for a copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Give Me a K-I-L-L may be may favorite recent installment of the Fear Street series so far. As far as YA thriller/horror goes, I think it hit the nail on the head. Give Me a K-I-L-L isn't gory but there are several twists throughout that really bring that sense of confusion and anxiety that lets fear creep in. I loved the end of this book. I did listen to the audio version of Give Me a K-I-L-L and thought it matched the writing style perfectly and really helped keep the pace of the quick chapters and infusion of characters. If you're thinking about learning more about Fear Street, I recommend Give Me a K-I-L-L for a fast paced infusion of YA horror and nostalgia.

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Very captivating with amazing character development.
What a throwback to my childhood reading RL Stine. What would you do to bring back a true love? Anything? I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I listened to this one this week and I did enjoy it. It was not one of the best books in the Fear Street series but it sure was entertaining.

I do recommend this one.

Wow, this was a rollercoaster! Gretchen is the new girl in town and desperately wants to make the cheerleading squad. But is she desperate enough to start killing the other cheerleaders for a chance on the squad? This book is very fast-paced and thrilling. There are quite a few leaps in logic one has to make for the events in this book to make a lot of sense. Our main character Gretchen isn't always the most likable character. She snaps at her mother for seemingly no reason and has a pretty big persecution complex. The plot is very fast-paced and interesting but the twists come with very little foreshadowing. I listened to the audiobook and I think the production and quality were great! The narrator is very good. She does a fine job at doing many different voices and it was only a couple of times that I got confused by which character she was voicing. I'd recommend this to kids who enjoyed the Goosebumps books and are ready for something a little older and edgier.

3.5 stars
Another creepy installment of the Fear Street series. Gretchen gets edged out of the last cheerleader spot in her new school because the other girl Devra is rich and donates to the school. All these scary things start happening to Gretchen and she's convinced Devra is behind it. It really seems Devra is behind everything but she keeps denying it. It's quite the murder mystery!
I really didn't see the ending coming and it actually surprised me in a good way. The only thing was, a part of it was really confusing and seemed not necessary and it's hard to explain without giving major spoilers. I'm not sure if there will be a sequel to this one (as all 3 Fear Street books I've read were basically standalones), but the very ending just made no sense with the rest of the story.
I also didn't like the way Gretchen treated her mom. If I was reading this as a middle schooler, I would probably have enjoyed that more, but as someone no longer in middle school, she treated her mom like crap. Most of the time when she was accusing her mom of "snapping on her," her mom had asked a simple question and it was just a little bit too high school drama-y for me.
Probably my least favorite in general out of the 3 I was gifted from Netgalley even though I did enjoy the who-dun-it aspect a lot!

The book “Give Me a K-I-L-L” is a perfect YA book: It shows high school rivalry at its finest. Being that he’s the prince of horror, the scenes between the two feuding cheerleaders in the book were detailed descriptions of horrifying occurrences that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. There were some twists and turns in this book that I didn’t see coming.

This book is just a clear reminder that I'm a true Stine fun. He has such a way with horror that I absolutely love and I can't even get enough of. This book was definitely until the others I've read recently and has more or a 'whodunit' vibe that leaves you guessing until the final shocking twist! Trust me this is a you think you know, but you really don't it and I was all for it. It made things slow going through, but I still read this book in well under 24 hours.

I listened to the audio version of this book on 1.5x speed. The book overall takes about 5 1/2 hours but it goes by fast because the chapters are short (which I love!). I did found myself rolling my eyes at some situations but that's because I'm in my 30s and this book is geared more towards teenagers, but still, I did enjoy the story. As the story went by I had different suspects and one of my suspicions was correct which I kind of liked. The book will have you guessing literally until the last chapter, and it all went down really fast and in your face (think old movie style, maybe even Scooby-Do). In conclusion, this book is easy to enjoy but don't expect a masterpiece, and I will definitely look forward to reading/listening to more Fear Street books.

This is the sixth book in the Fear Street Relaunch series and I have to say that I really didn't like the main character, Gretchen. New to Fear Street and Shadyside High, Gretchen tries out for the cheerleading squad. She wins the spot but Devra, the rich girl, is given the spot and Gretchen believes Devra is out to get her. No spoilers but I definitely recommend it. This book is full of twists and turns! Thanks to #netgalley for the advanced reader copy.

Having spent most of my life never reading RL Stine books aside from the exact 1 that I happen to still own given to me by my cousin a literal lifetime ago, my recent dive into Fear Street was been rather mixed. Blame Netflix for my adult curiosity making me read YA books... this past week I’ve taken a stroll through the Fear Street Relaunch series...

And after reading 5 of the 6 books in this series I’m done it’s just not good. Admittedly I haven’t been a teenager for a long time but it feels like it’s written by someone who hasn’t known much about teenagers for oh I don’t know 30+ years. None of the characters are ever likable the stories aren’t good and there’s a lot of nonsense. Also this series just makes it seem like teenage girls are far more irrational and overly emotional than real people actually are.

Gretchen is the new girl in town and wants nothing more than to join the cheerleading squad there’s on spot left and it was assumed a girl named Devra would get it but now they must compete for it. Devra the rich spoiled brat doesn’t like this and thus begins a bitter rivalry. Does anybody do anything about death threats, poisonings and various other activities that happen? Of course not! Seems like adults in Shadyside absolutely never do anything useful or make and good decisions and basically just let their children do whatever they want. There’s weirdness and death of course but it’s uninteresting nonsense. Also all the stuff with Sid was so stupid.

Also and do they really let high school cheerleaders use flaming batons? That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Another problem I had was that if someone calls you in a cell phone their name only comes up if you have their number saved in your phone. And if by some strange circumstances a name were to come up it wouldn’t be the name of the teenage child it would be of the parent whose name would be on the account. Do people really not know how phones work?

The narration is perfectly fine just as will pretty much all the other books in this series the story isn’t good. And it’s not that I’m way too old for this it’s just not good. There’s a difference between suspension of disbelief and pure nonsense.

The narrator is really good, Brittany Presley is one of my favourites & she is perfect for Fear Street books. My only issue is the story itself. Not one of Stine’s best. The lead character is very annoying & I never felt sympathy for her because she wasn’t the best of people to root for. It was worth one listen though & I’m going to listen to all the new Fear Street ones & future ones as well!
