I love how the creators are inspired by the Grimm's tales. These modernised and greatly illustrated stories are great for horror and fairytale fans alike.

Grimm Tales from the Cave is a modernized retelling of the classic Grimm Fairy tales. The retellings are as dark and gory as their originals, or at least for those that I recognized. Many of the stories were unknown to me with the exception of the most popular - Repunzel, The Pied Piper, Rumplestiltskin. But those that I didn't know, the illustrations and story make me want to find them.

The best stories bookend the collection.

A great collection of dark, gothic stories. Some are inspired by old folktales and all are fabulous to read. They span modern, fairyland, and parallel worlds and some have strong, spirited women (which is rare). Incredibly imaginative and highly recommended if you don't mind gore and twisted tales.

2.5 stars for the whole collection. This one was very hit or miss for me and I didn't care for a lot of the artwork or stories explored. Review to come.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this anthology.

This anthology contains retellings of beloved fairytails with a modern spin without losing their gothic feel.

With all anthologies some stories resonate better than others. It all really depends on the reader. But they were all interesting and the illustrations, while varied in style, all fit their respective stories.

Lovers of gothic fairytale retellings will enjoy this book.

As with most anthologies, there's good and bad stories within. Most in this one are pretty good. The stories are modern takes on fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm. There's also a lot of new talent in this as it was part of a contest to get your story published.

Grimm, gory retailing of classic fairy tales, this collection is a beautiful mix of classic and modern days interpretation. Ofc, art style changed a lot, each story had It's illustrator's personality, so overall a rich and powerful anthology.. These are seriously creepy and somewhat disturbing unlike the originals. I can see any horror comic fan drooling over it.haha, anyway I didn’t like every art style equally, Soldiers of Fortune, Pay the Piper, Mother’s Thorn, The girl with dirty hands and No good deed are my personal fav from this lot.

Would recommend.! (':

A beautifully gothic and dark modern retelling of classic Grimm fairytales. The artwork was extremely unique but fitting for the stories within. My only issue is the same with any anthology or short story collection in that some tories will stand out more than others. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this reading experience.

A graphic novel in anthology form, which puts a modern and unique spin on fairy tales.

You will find classic tales such as The Pied Piper, Bluebeard and Rumplestiltskin etc told in a completely different way, but with the same main idea.

Each story is illustrated in a different way, therefore one is able to see lots of different types of illustrations. The artwork is very good in all of the stories.

I would recommend this illustrated anthology for people who enjoy horror & supernatural stories and of course fairy tales.

There are eleven adult Grimm Tales from the Cave. They are about sins and sinners. But all have a moral in there somewhere just like the original Grimm tales.

“When you reach hell, I shall serve you a meal. What will be the meat? What will be the spoon? And what will be the wine glass from which you drink?”

Three soldiers make a deal with the devil. A cheap landlord tries to cheat his tenants and his exterminator. A new Boss, literally from Hell, has a bad day. A stepdaughter has a great adventure. Plus, seven more tales of terror await you.

There are definitely shades of The Twilight Zone in these ironic horror tales. The art varies considerably in style making each new story a delight. Many are twisted fairy tales of old, though you don’t have to recognize them to enjoy them.

Overall, I think Grimm Tales from the Cave is a fantastic graphic novel. 5 stars and a favorite!

Thanks to Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

This graphic horror anthology is for all the readers who have ever finished a Grimm’s fairy tale and thought to themselves that it wasn’t scary enough. These collected stories are dark and thought-provoking retellings of some familiar and not so familiar fairy tales. In true fairy tale fashion some of these stories have happy(ish) endings, but they are still deeply disturbing and graphic stories.

The office setting in Hello, My Name Is…, a Rumpelstiltskin retelling, will be quite enjoyable for anyone that has ever felt like a nameless cog in the machine. Pay the Piper is probably my favorite story in this anthology because the writer/artist did such an amazing job with the story and the artwork. Everyone knows how this story goes, but it is always satisfying to see a new take and this one is exceptional. The Girl with Dirty Hands is a terrible and dark story with a perfect happy ending.

I received a digital ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

grimm tales from the cave is a middling collection of updates on the brothers grimm. i am begging publishers to find an alternative to adobe digital editions though, it's such a frustrating experience reading anything through it.

Grimm Tales from the Cave is a graphic novel anthology of stories inspired by the original Grimm Tales, more like a modern retelling. I seriously loved these! They are creepy and haunting like the original tales, and the art is just super, adds so much to the creepiness and the haunting vibes of the story. The art style is different, and perfectly fitting for every story. I could stare at the artwork forever, it's that gorgeous! This is something I'd want on my bookshelf! 😍🤗
Definitely recommended if horror graphic novels and gorgeous artworks is your thing! 🙌

Thanks to @netgalley and @diamondbookdist for the eARC :)

Each one of these was a fascinating take on classic stories. Some of these could be considered "Modern" retellings, but not all of them.
But each is unique in its way and often causes you to think about these works in different lights than we typically do.

This was so freaking creepy and fulfilled my craving for a spooky retelling of Grimm's Fairytales. It was so gory at times and I even had chills running down my spine at some parts because of the creepy factor. I figured out most of the original stories the retellings were based on, but there were a couple that may not have been as well known. I loved the shift of the retellings to a modern day setting because I think the stories made a bigger impact on the reader since what happens in the plot could happen to anyone - minus the magical aspect though. The art styles were also really well done and really amped up the creepiness of this anthology. Overall, it was a great read!

This one I discovered from netgalley

I really like this comics anthologies they are so interesting, this specific one was pretty interesting with the theme, I really liked a lot if not all stories in it.

The illustrations all made every story so unique it was awesome, my favorites were
Hello my name is, Billi and his friend death, The Girl with dirty hands.

I did find a little on every story and the retelling were so awesome specially pay the piper and weft.

Totally recommended if you love to discover classics another darker way.

Quick and enjoyable.
I liked the dark themes throughout the short stories, and how each story was illustrated in a different style.
Some of the stories were either a bit confusing or predictable.
Nevertheless, highly recommend it.

Quite enjoyable, quick read. I love that every story had a different illustration style. A couple of the stories were a little confusing and did not really make sense to me with what was drawn, but overall, a very fun read.

A graphic novel containing darker, gorier and modernised retellings of the classic Grimm Fairy tales, which themselves are quite gloomy to begin with. In some of the cases, I could make out the original story but not for all. And I enjoyed the former category better, where I could figure out how exactly the classic had been altered for the retelling.
This started with a bang but as it went ahead, the quality varied, as in most anthologies. All the stories are dark and creepy. Quite a few of the stories are mind-blowing. Here’s my brief spoiler-free feedback on each of the eleven stories:
1. Soldiers of Fortune – Based on ‘The Devil and His Grandmother’ – In a word, WOW! Loved it from the first panel to the last. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
2. Pay the Piper – Based on ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’ – Yet another awesome story. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
3. Hello My Name is - Based on ‘Rumpelstiltskin’ – I didn’t like the graphics in this one but the story was good 🌟🌟🌟🌟
4. Mother’s Thorn – Based on ‘Mother Holle’ - I wish this were longer. It was beautifully written and sketched. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
5. Birds of a feather – Based on ‘Bluebeard’ I guess, not very sure. Found it decent. Nothing great, nothing bad. 🌟🌟🌟
6. Billie & her friend Death – Nice story. Loved the use of the virus and the pandemic in this one. A bit predictable. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
7. Little Deaths - This had potential but left a lot of loopholes at the end. Without any kind of background into the characters, the entire plot felt abrupt, right till the ending. I would have enjoyed it more had I know the who’s and the why’s. 🌟🌟🌟
8. The girl with dirty hands – I wish I knew the original tale for this one. It was so amazing! 🌟🌟🌟🌟. 🌠
9. No good deed - Well-written and well-sketched. 🌟🌟🌟🌟.🌠
10. Weft – Based on ‘Rapunzel’ – Was absolutely predictable but still I enjoyed it. Credit goes partly to the creepy illustrations. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
11. New Nightmares Sold Cheap – Didn’t like the story, didn’t like the graphics. 🌟

There is a lot of gore in the stories, possibly containing the same level of carnage and cruor as the Sandman comic series. If you are squeamish about blood and horror, better stay away.
Usually, one expects an entire book to have the same style of illustrations. But with there being multiple writers and illustrators for this anthology, there is no unifying graphical style. I did enjoy the sketches in most of the works. (The sole exceptions being “Hello My name is…” and “New Nightmares Sold Cheap”, they were too plain and hence felt bland against the rest of the book.)
Overall, I did enjoy the book to a great extent. It provides a novel take on the classic fairy tales. If you enjoy horrifying retellings, do give it a try.

3.75 stars, rounding up to 4.
