I couldn't really get into this book, though it contained a good mystery. I didn't realize it was the 2nd in a series and I did not read the first one, but others have said that it works as a standalone. It centers primarily on Hector, whose wife and daughter disappeared 15 years ago and were assumed to have been killed by a known serial killer, though their bodies were never found. He finds messages his wife left for him before her disappearance and decides to investigate on his own. Faye is the 2nd protagonist, though she is less prevalent in the overall story than Hector is- she is on the run with her young son and living under an assumed identity in the same town.
This was a good story with suspense and surprise, and I liked the ending, but I think the reason I couldn't get fully engaged was that I didn't feel a major connection with either of the main characters, and (without giving anything away) I also wasn't super interested in the crime that we find out is being covered up, which tied back to Hector's wife disappearance. Though the book was well-written, these things kept me from being really excited about it.
Overall, not for me but a well-written book-- and other reviews put me in the minority. It's definitely more of a mystery than a police procedural, even though Hector is a cop. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I didn’t realize this was the second book in a series until I started reading it, but it stands on its own just fine. The mystery was engaging and kept me hooked. It was interesting reading from the point of view of a villain as well as the protagonists.

Hector Lewis and Faye Anders have one thing in common – the people they love the most have been taken from them. Hector’s wife and daughter disappeared 15 years ago and he’s never stopped searching. His latest search leads him to Yellowstone National Park Meanwhile Faye has been hiding in a tiny town in Montana, but now her little boy has disappeared. Hector and Faye’s paths cross when they are forced to confront the person responsible for tearing their lives apart

Suspenseful. Much darker than I personally enjoy, but I would recommend it to people who enjoy dark suspense novels. The first person perspective that jumps between characters each chapters was hard to get used to.

Wow! That book had a lot going on! Non stop action, suspense intrigue, murder and blood shed! It was definitely a real page turner! A great crime thriller! Had me glued to my kindle the whole book! I definitely recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
