The vibes of this book were excellent. If ever there was a sleeper hit for me, it would be this one. It took me by complete surprise. I was not expecting to be so drawn into this mysterious tale of murder. Not only was the plot tightly woven with one hell of an ending, but it was full of emotion and fraught with tension. Grief horror is one of my favourite sub genres and when it's done as great as this, it really seals why I love it so much. Highly recommend this one.

This was a great audiobook presentation. Wonderful narration of a very compelling story. I dug the audiobook so much that I went out and bought a paperback. Come With Me is another Malfi winner.

Brutally honest. The start of the book came out strong , very slow paced which lost the spark of the story. I’m trying to understand the plot when it comes to chapter 6 but doesn’t makes any sense.
When it comes to the paragraph’ every marriage has its secret’ I’m sorry to say but I have to put the book down. DNF.

Aaron and Allison Decker have a good life. Aaron translates Japanese novels into English and Allison is a reporter. They have a great marriage and are content. That is, until the day Allison walks out to meet a source and walks into a man who has picked this day to kill his parents, his ex-girlfriend and anyone standing near. Allison is one of the victims and her death leaves Aaron reeling.

A few months later, he finally has the strength to go through the box containing her belongings from work. He is surprised to see a receipt from a hotel in another state and as he thinks back realizes that he was out of town himself on a work assignment. Why did Allison go to a hotel in some little town he had never heard of? Was she having an affair?

Aaron decides to look into it. What he discovers is more life shaking than an affair. Allison was tracking a serial killer, one who had claimed victims all along the Eastern Seaboard and who had remained invisible. Even more shocking, Allison's sister, who she had told Aaron had drowned, was one of the first victims. Did Aaron know Allison at all? Was their whole life based on a lie?

Ronald Malfi has written a novel that besides being a mystery, asks the question can we ever really know anyone, even those we love? Do we really want to know the secrets that our partners choose to keep or will they shatter the relationship? They mystery is solid and the characters that Aaron meets in his search are portrayed well. The impetus for the novel is a random shooting in a newsroom in which Malfi's friend was killed a few years ago and the randomness and grief that such an event leaves behind is well written. This book is recommended for mystery readers.

Absolutely riveting! Kept me listening into the wee hours of the night. This crime noir thriller started off with a typical scenario - wife dies and husband discovers a secret about her that changes everything he thought he knew. BUT it goes down a very different tangent than the norm. And that’s just one of the things I loved about it.

The characters and setting all came to life. I felt like I was walking beside the MC throughout the plot. A sense of bleakness and unease oozed out of the pages yet ironically drew me in. The suspense was….sublime!

The audiobook performance was average but the writing made it shine. Two thumbs up for this audiobook. Would absolutely recommend.

This novel followed Aaron Decker who decided to investigate some mysteries surrounding his wife. Aaron believed his wife may have cheated on him so he decided to look into a weird overnight “business” trip she took. However, everything wasn’t as it appeared and the simple affair became a much bigger mystery.

The mystery was amazing as I loved how the simple affair broadened into a murder mystery. There were so many layers to the mystery that I was kept constantly on my toes. I loved how the mystery kept expanding more and more. The grief Aaron experienced was heartbreaking but realistic without consuming the whole novel. It helped motivate Aaron with some moments so sad that I actually teared up.

The characters were good but some of the secondary characters were forgettable. I got some of the minor characters mixed up in my head.

The atmosphere was dark, gothic and perfect for a supernatural mystery novel.

The pacing was good but the last third did drag a bit. I wish Malfi or his editor would have cut approximately 20-30 pages in this section.

The audiobook was very high quality with a great voice actor. I wish there could have been two voice actors though, one for the male characters and one for the female characters. This way I wouldn’t have been so confused about whether there was an actual ghost or whether it was just Aaron’s grief.

Overall this was a good murder mystery novel with a great supernatural element. I would strongly recommend it to mystery fans.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for this audiobook ARC.

Absolutely loved this. Creepy, atmospheric. To compare to King is a compliment, but Malfi holds his own in the Horror genre with his own style of storytelling. Definitely cannot wait for his next!

4.5 stars. This was amazing. I love thrillers/mysteries that have a paranormal element but sometimes they can be executed poorly and/or confusingly. But this one was executed perfectly. It was atmospheric and intriguing and unsettling from beginning to end. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys thrillers and paranormal stories.

I read the synopsis for this book and it sounded like something that would be right up my alley so I requested it. I started the audiobook and I was immediately drawn to how the story was written. It was hard to listen to because the main character in the book was speaking in a way that is not normal in our society.

As I progressed about 5% into the book, I started to wonder if this book would ever pick-up. So I decided to go back and check the reviews that were already on Netgalley. I saw a lot feel the same way that I was and some that varied differently. We all have our own opinion.

I am not one that typically does not finish a book all the way and post a review but in this case I am. I only got about 25% in and I just can't finish it. It is a super slow burn. It doesn't draw you into it. I just can't do it.

Come With Me is utterly eerie, suspenseful and difficult to put down, because you find yourself being pulled in deeper and deeper into this chilling mystery that goes beyond death itself.

Aaron's life is turned upside down by the untimely death and brutal murder of his wife Allison. (this isn't a spoiler as it's what propels the entire story...).

Consumed by grief and attempting to go through his wife's belongings, he comes across notes, travel receipts and things that just don't add up to what he knew of his wife's work... and life.
This leads him on a quest for answers and to the uncovering of something dark and shocking.

There were some parts that really brushed on some paranormal/supernatural aspects, but overall, the gruesome murder mystery is compelling and addicting, because you want to know if Allison really was onto something or not, if Aaron is "reading too much into things", and also, it's about the age-old question of how well do you really know the person you married.

This book is a thrilling suspenseful ride and yet also tragic and sad, especially once I got to the ending and the author's note, which explains in part what prompted him to write this book.

It's bone chilling, shocking, tragic and sad... and I definitely recommend it!

Although I have several of Malfi's earlier novels on my TBR, this audiobook is actually my first experience with his writing. And I am really looking forward to tracking down the novels of his that I already own in the chaos of our move! I truly enjoyed listening to this well-performed audiobook. It hooks the reader in right away - Aaron's wife unexpectedly dies, sending Aaron on a haunted mission to uncover more about his beloved Allison and follow her tracks to learn her secrets. Aaron ends up following the clues and research that his journalist wife left behind. He reveals truths behind the lies that she gave to him - all the while he feels a mysterious presence goading him on.

The book is part mystery and part horror, but I never found it to be truly scary or chilling - but definitely thrilling, and I do most of my audiobook listening in the daylight, so I can't say that if I was listening at night that maybe I would have been more afraid. The characters all come to life and the haunting presences really make this an interesting concept. I really enjoyed it and especially appreciated how all of the pieces fit together in the end. I loved listening to this and am even more curious and excited to read more from Malfi in the future!

I've heard a lot of good reviews about this one and I'm afraid this would be an unpopular opinion!
So,
Usually I love when a story takes time to reach a certain point in thrillers/horrors but this one was an extreme slow burn. I thought of dnf'ing it a several times but the narrator did a great job expressing the emotions of all the characters so well that gripped me tight enough to get through this story.
..
There are a handful of recurring characters so just try to memorize the names. I had to go back a few times because I haven't paid attention when they're first introduced so well keep that in mind.
..
The pace was just the same all the way to the end. I mean there are a few twists here and there but they aren't enough surprising.(Okay for that, I blame all the dark twisted reads I've read till now)
..
What I loved the most was the ending. It was heart touching and just perfect. The connection was so satisfying and it tied all the loose ends which truly saved the read for me.
..
Author's Note was sweet too.
..
A crime thriller with a hint of paranormal elements in it. Read/listen to it only if you're cool with slow-paced stories!
..
Lastly the story telling was brilliant and utterly captivating. This is my first Ronald Malfi's read but definitely won't be the last!
..

This book was a push and pull for me. At points I would be entirely enthralled and had to know what was going to happen next. Then a slump would happen and I had to push through. I think this story has the bare bones of something, but I'm not sure it felt complete to me.

4+ stars

Allison Decker dies leaving behind a grieving Aaron Decker. Aaron thought he knew his wife but after going through her belongings, he finds clues to a very different side of Allison. Haunted by her, Aaron follows the clues she left behind.

I enjoyed listening to the book. I liked Aaron and following his path of discovery looking into the mystery.

Joe Hempel did an excellent job narrating.

I think I went into this book expecting it to be horror but it is not. With my expectations I kept waiting for something scary to happen and it never does. Overall I thought the book was alright but to much of a slow burn for me.

When Aaron Decker finds a cash receipt from a motel in his murdered wife's effects, his suspicious mind leads him to travel from his home in Annapolis to the motel in rural North Carolina where she had stayed. He loved her; he thought they had a good marriage; he thought they had no secrets. And so begins an investigation into a serial killer who had operated under the radar of law enforcement for more than a decade. Decker is a remarkable detective, an intelligent and likable man, who, while still grieving the loss of his wife, is persistent in his search. This flawlessly plotted book benefits from an equally professional narration by Joe Hempel, who easily performs the role of an intelligent, although somewhat confused young widower.

This was a book I chose to not finish after listening to 37% of the story. I just could not connect with the story and had a hard times following (concentrating) on what was happening.
