Electric Idol is the second book in the Dark Olympus series. This installment features Psyche and Eros.
Eros is the son of Aphrodite and is tasked to be her enforcer. Psyche is the daughter of Demeter and is trying to avoid being married off by her mother. When Eros and Psyche are caught in a compromising situation at a party, Eros realizes the only way to save Psyche is to marry her.
The chemistry between Eros and Psyche was so great. I loved both of their personalities and relationship. I'm also glad we get to see more of Hades and Persephone in this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC which I received in exchange for an honest review!

When I got approved for this arc, I literally squealed! I absolutely loved Neon Gods and the books I’ve read from the Wicked Villains series so I had very high hopes for this book. Katee Robert did not disappoint!

One of my favorite things about Electric Idol was that Psyche is a true plus size main character. Sometimes when authors talk about their “plus size” main character, they describe them as more midsize and just super curvy which is fine but I love that Psyche was actually plus size and that she is very confident with herself. The relationship between Eros and Psyche was hot and so loving.

I will always recommend Katee Robert’s work! Can’t wait for the next Dark Olympus book!

Happy to have received this ARc through NetGalley, just as I was for Neon Gods.

First off, I enjoyed this just as much as the first book. They both have many shining moments for different reasons. I really enjoyed getting more interactions between Psyche and her sisters. Seeing how much they care for each other was endearing and something I could relate to. This was great in giving us more of the characters we only got tiny glimpses into them in book 1. I'm so excited to keep following these characters as we get more books.

I love a good marriage of convenience! It was entertaining and fun getting into Eros's point of view and seeing how obsessed and transfixed he was by Psyche. I loved their banter and found myself laughing and smiling through most of their debating about how to handle their fake marriage through the first half of the book. My favorite line: "The woman showed me kindness once, and then I essentially followed her home like a feral cat and forced her to marry me." Very funny but very true!

Overall, I really enjoy these loose uses of the Greek gods in this tense city of glamor and gore!

CWs: Abuse (emotional, financial), body shaming (ch 1, 3, 31), murder (off-page), explicit sex, there is an element of dubcon in this, manipulation, references to adult/minor relationship with explicit photos

Roberts never disappoints. Her books are literally electric and full of heat with every turn of the page and this is no exception and I think it might be my favorite yet!

I could not get into this book. It lacked a lot of plot in my opinion compared to the first book in the series. It also lacked characters that I felt connected to. Psyche and Eros both felt flat to me when Hades and Persephone left off the page in Neon Gods. Overall it made for a really slow read that I wasn't sure I wanted to finish. But I would try another book in the series later on because I enjoyed the first so much!

This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 and it did not disappoint! I love the way Katee Robert writes. The characters are so real that i can just sink into the world as if I have lived in Olympus my entire life. I was a bit nervous that I wouldn't like these as much as the first book because Hades and Persephone are my favorite myth. However, I think I might like Eros and Psyche more. These two felt a bit more down to earth, more like friends I might have. I think this is in part due to the fact that neither of them are actually part of 13.
I want to talk about Psyche a bit more. I have read multiple books with plus sized heroines, but the way Robert describes Psyche was so perfect. She doesn't shy away from Psyche having insecurities but also refuses to let that be a major factor in intimate scenes and it is also not Psyche's entire personality. I also love that Eros loves her body without fetishing it which is a hard line to tow in plus sized romance.
Beyond that, I love that both characters have flaws and strengths, the spicy scenes are great and paced in a way that makes sense with the books. I love the marriage of convenience trope and that slow realization of love. I also enjoy that the majority of the conflict fell outside of the relationship. If I had any criticism, I dislike when couples realize they have feeling for the other and they just assume it is one sided instead of talking. Overall, Katee Robert keeps making bangers and I can't wait for Wicked Beauty.

The sequel to Neon Gods, Electric Idol, follows Persephone's sister Psyche and Aphrodite's son Eros. My favourite part is probably the characters. Psyche is a plus-sized social media influencer who knows how to play Olympus' psychological games while maintaining a pure spirit. Eros is Aphrodite's fixer, and he feels himself to be a villain since he is obligated to do her dirty job.  I loved witnessing them fall in love after starting as adversaries and being pushed into a marriage of convenience.

A criticism I have for this book is that it was a little redundant. We didn't need Eros to say every 50 pages that he believes he's a monster. As much as I like reading about the various characters in this realm, I didn't care for the writing. Overall, I recommend it if you enjoyed Neon Gods!

This is the second book I've read by Katee and let me just say, her writing style is chef's kiss. Electric Idol, a modern retelling centers around Psyche and Eros, It's got the marriage of convenience/forced proximity trope, it's steamy, and fast-paced, If you're a fan of two people starting out as 'enemies', Greek mythology retellings written in a modern way, and spice then try out this one. It's a series I'll definitely continue! Such a fun read!!

"I don't care if she deserves someone just as sweet as she is. I want her chained to me, and I'll rip out the throat of anyone who thinks they can take her away."

I was so excited for this story as Psyche and Eros are two of my favorite characters in Greek mythology, and I certainly enjoyed Katee Robert's take on them. Eros is walking proof that still waters can run deep, and I love that this story had an element of found family in it with respect to Psyche and the Dimitriou Sisters.

As with Neon Gods, I love that these stories are like an easter egg hunt for fans of Greek mythology. I love that Robert adds in bits and pieces of mythology and lore--little call-backs that are so much fun (using Tartarus, rather than hell, for example).

I loved Psyche and Eros's connection and could've seen myself enjoying this even more than Neon Gods were it not for the fact that the book seemed to drag at parts, whereas the plot of Neon Gods felt like it moved a bit quicker and with purpose. Still, this is such a fun series and I'm so glad that we have a third book to look forward to.

I didn't think it was possible, but I loved this book even more than Neon Gods! The fake relationship between Eros and Psyche was perfection! Sweet nothings and scorching nights that all led to real feelings. It felt natural and I loved it! I picked the perfect month to read this one ❤

Thoroughly enjoyable and deliciously steamy. I also LOVED how cunning Psyche was and how her confidence in her body and style was just there. It wasn't in-your-face inner monologue about her appearance and fashion—her confidence was a steady undercurrent in all of her actions which, I think, made so much more of an impact.

First things first... I've been wanting to read a Psyche/Cupid book for ages; I had no idea it would come in the shape of an erotic retelling but I'm not mad at it. Psyche piss off Aphrodite causing a rift between Psyche and Eros. I love the mother/daughter power dynamic when it comes to a man's loyalty and heart. Robert did a great job balancing the story and the romance in this novel--and the steamy scenes are 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Overall I liked it a lot and I am amped for Wicked Beauty!!!

rating: ☆☆☆.5
i loved this book! it was so entertaining and fun to read. i finished this book in less than a day. the characters were my favorite part. Psyche and Eros's dynamic was so fun to read. they start as enemies, who are forced into a marriage of convenience, and they fall in love with each other. though the worldbuilding was expanded from the last book it was still very vague. the plot was fast-paced and there was never a dull moment. i loved the greek mythology included in the story! Electric Idol is a fun fast read, perfect for fans of romance and Greek mythology.

Thank you to @sourcebookscasa #partner for the advanced e-copy of Electric Idol by Katee Roberts.

Greek romance mythology obsession… activated. Who knew I needed this romance subgenre in my life?!
I read both Neon Gods and Electric Idol in a twenty four hour time span.
These books are as addictive as their romance is spicy.
Alpha male meets head strong bad ass female characters?? Sign me up!
And the steam…. Holy moly my good god.
Highly recommend for my open door romance lovers. If you prefer a closed door sweet romance, this is definitely not the one for you 🤣

I am so excited for the next book Wicked Beauty to come out in June!
Am I against begging @sourcebookscasa for an advanced copy?? Absolutely not.

Ahh I just devoured it. I enjoyed it so much!! And, I really loved the woman main character, she was so charming and fun. Along with that, the angst and the chemistry was pure fire. Also, I really loved the sexuality and plus size rep in it.

After rapturous success of "Neon Gods", Katee Robert’s returns full throttle with her equally enticing novel "Electric Idol". The second book of an expansive series, "Electric Idol" is set within a dark and glittering metropolis that brings the love, scandal, and betrayal of Greek myths to life. The skyscraper lined streets of Olympus continues to develop into a politically charged terrain, an arena of ambition and manipulation. Clinging to compassion and masquerading in facade of self-preservation, Psyche Dmitriou must rival the matchmaking beauty-queen, Aphrodite. A member of the Thirteen, Aphrodite commands her son to kill Psyche despite her kindness toward him. However, Roberts’ brings eroticism back to its seductive source with the god of sexual desire, who so happens to be Aphrodite’s son: Eros. He can’t kill her. He wants her too badly. Psyche agrees to marry Eros in order to live. Or maybe that’s not the only reason. To her dismay, Psyche yearns for him just as badly. It doesn’t take long for the yearning to inevitably submit to craving, a hunger neither of them can satisfy. The taste of each other is too addictive for either to walk away wanting anything less than another moment of mutual ecstasy.
"Electric Idol" is romantic, dramatic, and of course, seductive. Not only do Eros and Psyche contribute to the realm of romance more representation of body positivity, as well, the world of Dark Olympus cultivates a casual openness of queer characters for readers within the LGBTQ+ community. Furthermore, Katee Roberts’ protagonists exhibit the time, care, and attractive thoughtfulness of ensuring consent. "Electric Idol" is an enjoyable and imaginative retelling of a classic myth that readers will definitely walk away from wondering what happens next, and if it could possibly get any hotter.

I’m such a sucker for retellings but it’s a cherry on top when it’s written by Ms. Roberts. I really enjoyed the story of Psyche and Eros. And, more than that the spice, the angst was just chefs kiss, also, I really liked the plus size rep. However, I find some parts a bit repetitive; making it a 4 stars read for me.

I loved this so much. Eros was right up my alley. The sexuality rep in this was so good as was the fat rep. I highly enjoyed this and flew through it.

In book #2 of Dark Olympus, readers return to the modern city of Olympus and hit the ground running with another of Demeter's daughters. With Persephone married to Hades, Psyche now finds herself the center piece of her mother's machinations....that is until she is caught in a tabloid photo with Eros. Eros, Aphrodite's son, is seldom caught off-guard, but the seemingly genuine kindness of Psyche makes him question the life he's lead as the unquestioning fixer of all his mother's problems. When her act of kindness causes Psyche to become the center of Olympus gossip and the target of all his mother's ire, Eros steps in to save Psyche in the only way possible, a marriage of convenience. Once married, surely Aphrodite's demand for Psyche's heart on a plate will be null and void? But in order for their scheme to work, Eros and Psyche will need to convince Olympus that theirs is a love match and that nothing, not even Aphrodite's unleashed fury will deter them. As these two Olympus outsiders ban together, will they ultimately end up sacrificing their heart to one another?
I really enjoyed round two with Psyche and Eros. There was less kinky sex dungeon, but more depth of character in this edition. I love that Psyche is an atypical member of the Olympus circle, both in physical appearance, as well as, social and emotional desires. She and Eros make quite the pair and this book moves at a rapid and satisfying pace.

This was an excellent continuation of the series. I loved the twists and turns and I really liked the main characters. It was still spicy, but there was a lot of fun intrigue that you wanted to work through. Highly recommend, and I'm looking forward to the next book.
