Leading with the fact that it's hard for me to decide on what grading scale to judge this series. If you liked the first book (Neon Gods), then this is more of the same. which is not a bad thing at all! Katee Robert's writing has a way of hooking you into her world and getting you invested into her characters' struggles. I really appreciate that so far, all of the romantic leads in this series have been bi/pan, and all of the representation in general has been done well as far as I can tell. It was especially great to see some body positive content in a romance novel like this. In the future I'd love to see a character (such as Callisto!) be in a queer relationship, but unfortunately my hopes were dashed by the end of this novel that I'd get to see that character in a wlw relationship later on in the series (I really don't like the implication of who she's going to end up with, but given the premise of the other romances in this series so far it sort of makes sense.) Overall I enjoyed this novel, and will definitely be reading as many Dark Olympus books as Katee Robert wants to write!

Whew. This book. Neon Gods took me by surprise. I'd heard the hype surrounding the book, but I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. So when I heard there was going to be a sequel, I was very excited.

This book picks up where Neon Gods ends. It is a companion novel, but I still felt like Roberts did such a great job continuing the plot from the first book. I know this book could technically be read without having read Neon Gods first, but there were some pretty large events that happened that would be spoiled or confusing in this book. Because of this, I didn't feel like I was reading a companion novel like with other romance novels, but a true sequel to the series. Like Legendary is to Caraval, Electric Idol is to Neon Gods.

Electric Idol follows Persephone's sister, Psyche, and Eros, a minor character we met in Neon Gods. The book starts off in a similar fashion as Neon Gods and follows a similar plotline. However, it still felt new and fresh and exciting. While both Persephone and Psyche got to together with their partners as a means of survival, a way to get away from another relationship and also having no intentions of falling in love with their "fake" relationships, their stories are very different. Persephone and Hades follows the sunshine/grump trope while Psyche and Eros is more along the ways of the playboy/good girl trope.

Psyche is so different from her sister, but so much more interesting than I realized. When we originally met her in Neon Gods, she wasn't very memorable. However, after finishing Electric Idol, she made sure I'd never forgot her. Psyche is strong, fearless, and very capable, and if Eros hadn't fallen in love with her, I would have deemed him a true idiot. Even though she swims with sharks, she still manages to fool everyone into thinking she is weaker than them while being more cunning and clever than all of them. Her wit and smarts were so fun to read about, and I was rooting for the whole time.

This book is steamy. Steamy in a different way than Neon Gods, but still steamy all the same. It was sexy and spicy, and totally addicting. The steam was perfect balanced by the vulnerability and character growth and the action and suspense. Overall, it made for a very quick and enjoyable read.

If you love Greek mythology, steamy books, marriage of convenience, plus size characters who love their body, sexy men who love his heroine, and some suspense and action, then this is the book for you. I loved this book, and I can't wait to see what Roberts has up her sleeve for the rest of the series.

I received a copy of this book for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Katee Robert is a New York Times and the USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance and romantic suspense. Entertainment Weekly calls her writing “unspeakably hot.” Her books have sold over a million copies. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, children, a cat who thinks he’s a dog, and two Great Danes who think they’re lapdogs.

“I can’t outrun myself.”

Psyche has a lot to live for. She’s a successful influencer, and her mother has elevated their position even further. Eros is the resident bash boy- doing his mother's dirty work. When Psyche shows Eros kindness, an Olympus size change is about to occur… and no one of ready.

This was my first Katee Robert novel, but I enjoyed this novel a lot! It is such a fun, modern twist in Greek mythology. I enjoyed reading this steamy take on a classic.

I loved Psyche so much. She was so bold. Intelligent and sassy. She isn’t afraid to do what needs to be done, and she isn’t afraid to stand up for herself.

Eros was a classic anti-hero. I loved his transformation. And I loved how charismatic he was. He was incredibly sexy and smooth. He was such a vivid character.

This book was excellent. I loved the plot, the pacing, and the arc of the storyline. I want to read the entire series now- steamy, funny, sassy, sweet, and filled with drama. This was a beautifully done modern telling of a classic story we all have heard at least once.

Cleverly done and perfectly executed, this was a fantastic read. I loved the mix of politics, drama, sabotage, and ultimately love.

4.5 stars. I received an ARC from the publisher and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
Electric Idol is the second book in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series, following up on the amazing Neon Gods. While this does work as a stand-alone, I feel like it did help having familiarity with the structure of this contemporary, yet still fantastical version of Olympus. Having familiarity going in about the structures of things, and how these aren’t actual gods, but different titles are given in different ways, is definitely helpful.
While I am comparatively less familiar with the story that inspired this one in comparison to the previous book, given Robert’s openness about subverting these tales to provide more optimistic endings, that’s definitely not a drawback.
And while I was a bit leery about the premise, with Eros essentially being a monster with no real emotions being manipulated by his mother, just as she did with Hades and Persephone, Robert handles a complex, messy plot with sensitive themes with care. Eros did take longer to grow on me than Hades did, but appreciated the nuance with which Eros’ psychological damage is depicted. Psyche is a great counterpart for him, being just the right amounts of assertive and empathetic, so while I still feel the urge to unpack the dynamics at play here, I like that there’s a sense of self-awareness to both of them. There’s a moment where she says, “you’re a monster, but you’re my monster,” and I just loved that.
And I really liked the exploration of Psyche’s character in her own right as well. There’s great fat rep where she’s concerned, and while it also touches on what it means for her to be compared to her beautiful sister, she never lacks self-confidence due to the way she looks.
And while there’s a lot of fraught family dynamics here, particularly with both leads’ respective mothers, I loved that there are still some lovely moments too, particularly between Persephone and Psyche. One of their other sisters, Callisto, speaks vocally in opposition to Psyche’s marriage plans with Eros. HoweverX Persephone’s response is to return the favor of support Psyche offered when Persephone got together with Hades, but not without the warning that she could act differently and more protectively.
While I can’t say it surpasses its predecessor in my heart, it’s still fabulous, and absolutely lives up to the hype generated on the heels of the first book’s success. Whether you like Greek mythology or not, this is a fabulous book I’d recommend for anyone who loves erotic romance.

I don't know much about mythology, but apparently I do know Katee Robert and this book does not disappoint. It's a retelling of the Cupid / Eros and Psyche story including social media influencing and family struggles. Eros is sent to kill Psyche by his mother, Aphrodite. Instead of killing her, he marries her and they have to work to keep Aphrodite from killing Psyche in a different way. I loved the characters, especially Eros and Psyche of course, and the idea of taming a monster. I will definitely read the others in this series.

3.5⭐️

Where Neon Gods failed, Electric Idol excelled for me. My biggest complaint with Persephone and Hades in Neon Gods was that their relationship felt rushed. In this second installment, Robert took the time to craft real and believable characters, which did wonders for the relationship she wrote between them. This book is filled with fan favorite romance tropes like marriage of convenience and enemies to lovers, but it's balanced out nicely with an expansion on the world of Olympus.

This ranks lowers on the spice scale for me (2 peppers spicy romcom level; think It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey), but I found myself still really enjoying the storytelling and plot progression. Although this didn't absolutely blow me away, it was a sweet and exciting romance that held my attention to the very end. This modern Olympus world has truly peaked my interest and I've got my eye on Wicked Beauty, the next release in this series.

I loved this mystery story. Do you love a good suspense? I think you will like this tale. Recommend to all friends and family!

THIS BOOK. MY HEART. I can't get over how good it was.

Part of the reason why I love thrillers is because there is not I enjoy quite like the plot twists that occur, and all the twists and turns that come along the way. Even though this book is not a thriller, it was very much THRILLING AND HOT. There were definitely some twists throughout the novel, but HOT DAMN there was one moment where my jaw literally DROPPED.

Eros & Psyche are next. freaking. level. I loved it.

I love how this book started out. I loved seeing a relationship form between Eros (the monster) and Psyche (the good hearted soul). And I love how we meet so many more characters. It was so good. My mind is actively reeling. This was the PERFECT sequel to Neon Gods and I am so beyond ecstatic for the rest of the books to come!!!!

Tropes:
Enemies-to-lovers
marriage-of-convenience

This follow up to Neon Gods was absolute perfection. I couldn’t put it down! Psyche is smart, cunning, and caring, an unheard of combination in the Upper City. Unfortunately her caring put her in Aphrodite’s crosshairs. When Aphrodite’s son is sent to solve Aphrodite’s “problem”, they have a Snow White and the huntsman moment, but Eros proposes a different solution that opens then both up to danger but also to more than they could have imagined.
It had less spice than Neon Gods but was still quite enjoyable.

I really loved this book which is about Psyche who gets on Aphrodite's bad side where now her son, Eros, must kill her but instead he can't and decide that they need to marry. After reading Neon Gods, I fell in love with Katee's writing. Also I want to mention that you should read book one first if you haven't. Even though it could be read as a standalone, I feel that there are some information that could leave you spoiled or confused. This book is spectacular like her other books with this one having more exploration on the world and an amazing story plot. Not only was this book steamy but I enjoyed how the author kept up with the plot and brought many conflicts into the story. The pacing was just perfect for this book with a flow storyline where you will never get bored. Overall everything about the writing was well done.

This book has two povs, Psyche and Eros. I enjoyed both characters very much. Psyche is our plus sized character who loves herself ( I love her confidence) and will do anything to protect her family. Then there is Eros who is the morally grey character and smoking hot. I have to say that both characters, especially Eros, have developed a lot throughout the story and I just loved their connection between each other. There were also many side characters in this book where you will see more of Aphrodite's involvement into the book and some old characters like Hades and Persephone. And the romance in this book let me say is spicy AF. This book has a 5/5 level of steaminess so be read!

The ending was really good and I just can't wait for book three which I heard is also releasing in 2022. This book had everything that I could hope for from a morally grey hot man with very steamy romance. I loved everything about this book and had no problems with it. I totally recommend that you check out this series because it's a new hype and you don't want to miss out!

*Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and NetGalley for providing an eARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

I don't think this was by any means a bad book, but it wasn't what I was expecting going in, and I had a very difficult time finishing it.

My big problem with this book is that it falls into the easy trap of telling and not showing us how the characters feel at every turn. This adds a very repetitive feel to a lot of the characters internal monologues, and I found myself very bored. I almost DNF'ed it, but I think that people who enjoyed the first book will probably still like this one. I just expected more from the story

Fans of Robert's first entry in her Dark Olympus series are likely to find another hit with this one. Though the book tackles a lesser-known aspect of Greek mythology, Robert does well creating fully realized characters in Psyche and Eros. Her trademark wit and ability to ramp up the sexual tension are on full display here. I wasn't quite as compelled by this one as I was by the first in the series, but I'm very interested to see what Robert does next with the rest of the Dmitriou sisters. Recommend for fans of darker romance.

A fresh take on the tale of Eros and Psyche. This book takes place in the same Olympus of Neon Gods with the same characters. We see Hades, Persephone and other gods of Olympus. With each book, we learn more about the gods and Olympus. I love the worldbuilding the author has done in each book so far. As with Neon Gods, I love seeing the bits of mythology thrown into these modern retellings. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

I really enjoyed the enemies to lovers and star crossed lovers aspect of this book! Katee did a wonderful job taking a old mythology and giving it a new contemporary twist. To me it was a lot tamer then Neon gods, but the story was a lot stronger and that made me like it just the same. Pshyche was such a relatable and real character. The representation and sex positivity in this book was fantastic.

In the city of Olympus, you play the game well or you’re crushed. And if you cross one of the Thirteen, well, may the gods have mercy on you. Psyche Dimitriou, daughter of the current Demeter, knows how to play a role and navigate the politics and society of Olympus. The beautiful influencer has never made a misstep…until one act of kindness makes her Aphrodite’s target. And Aphrodite’s weapon is the devastatingly handsome Eros.

Eros is, by his own admission, a monster. His mother raised him from childhood to be her blade in the night, the man who does her dirty work. He feels like his soul has been crushed; then he meets Psyche. Aphrodite wants Psyche killed, but rather than comply, Eros marries her, setting off a chain of events neither could have expected.

The Eros and Psyche myth is reimagined in the fast-paced, compelling Electric Idol. Katee Robert captivated me from the first with this sexy and imaginative take on the classic tale.

All of Olympus knows Psyche to be kind and sweet; the kind of woman who would never put a toe out of line. But Psyche is so much more than what people see. She’s smart, clever, skilled at image-craft, and wields social media with incredible skill. She’s also fiercely protective of those she loves and is a bit lonely, knowing that there is no one she can trust outside her family. Eros sees himself as the darkness to her light. He’s been raised to be a monster and has blood on his hands. He’s cold and ruthless because that’s what Aphrodite raised him to be. But she hasn’t killed his soul completely. Psyche brings out the man within, letting him be his true self around her. They have an unconventional beginning, to say the least, but I was rooting for these two every step of the way. Their chemistry is electric and the two of them burn up the sheets (and make great use of mirrors), but there’s no lack of heart to match the heat.

The threat of Aphrodite’s revenge adds danger to Electric Idol and allows a deeper look into the politics of Olympus. It’s an interesting world, one I look forward to learning more about as the series goes on. It’s also a deeply poisonous world, especially the closer you get to the Thirteen. I was captivated by Psyche and Eros’s romance and definitely kept turning the pages because I wanted to see them carve out their own slice of happiness.

For all the fun to be had with mirrors in this story, Eros and Psyche have a romance that you can believe in because they each see beyond the image the other presents. I loved how gone over Psyche Eros was and how she saw past the monster and fell for the man. Electric Idol is entertaining from start to finish and I cannot wait to see where Robert takes the Dark Olympus series next.

If you knew me while I read Neon Gods, you know that I loved the book but thought it needed something more and well... KATEE ROBERT DELIVERED. I don't even know where to begin. Great way to start off the new year. I couldn't put this down. Literally... I was at the New Years' party and didn't want to stop reading it because EROS AND PSYCHE have my heart.
-
Apart from this specific story, I love the new twist of Greek mythology where it's a modern world and somehow it makes me want to read more about it. I hope that this series is neverending.
-
In this new tale, Psyche and Eros find themselves in quite a predicament. When a photographer snaps the children of enemies in an embrace and runs a story. Aphrodite, Eros's mother, wants Psyche's heart on a platter served to her. Eros has other plans. The short encounter between the two has Eros doubting who he is and if he's truly capable of changing but instead of standing up to his mother... he MARRIES DEMETER'S DAUGHTER?
-
This book was filled with tropes that I love. Marriage convenience? Protection? I didn't believe in love until you? Children of enemies? PLUS-SIZED REPRESENTATION AND UPLIFTING IT? Love. Love. ABSOLUTELY LOVE!
-
Please read. Can't wait to see where the next book is headed with the Helen of Troy retelling... also hopefully Zeus gets a book cause I need an explanation for that ending...

Good addition to this series.

Sexy romance that kept me turning the pages. I’m intrigued to see where this series will head.

I can't say enough amazing things about Electric Idol. I thought Katee couldn't top Neon Gods and I was sorely mistaken. The chemistry and banter of Psyche and Eros is not to be missed!

A great continuation from Neon Gods. After an accidental picture is taken of them at a party, Psyche and Eros now find themselves married in order to save her life. Filled with meddling families members and life threatening situations Psyche and Eros navigate a fake marriage to find something real. I found this book very enjoyable. filled with equal parts steamy and sweet moments I was rooting for Psyche and Eros as much as I was for Persephone and Hades. I also was very happy to see a fat positive character. This title works as both a stand alone and a continuation of the world of Olympus.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Dark Olympus series. This book follows Psyche and her marriage to Eros, originally sent to kill her by his mother Aphrodite. They marry to save her and we get an intriguing, sexy, enemies to lovers, fake marriage story.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this one, simply because I loved Neon Gods and Persephone and Hades' story, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the characters and this story.

The story was intriguing and felt that the plot was built well. I loved that the heroine was plus-sized and that it connected to the events of Neon Gods and that world. I also loved the connection to Greek mythology.
