I was hesitant on Electric Idol because I didn't love Neon Gods - I felt like there was little plot and mostly steam. While this one is still very sexy, there's definitely a plot and I enjoyed it a lot!

What I enjoyed:
- Greek mythology - huge fan!
- Marriage of convenience trope
- Plus size goddess - I loved how comfortable Psyche is with her body and just let the trolls be trolls without letting nasty comments get to her

Looking forward to the next book in the series!

“Electric Idol” is the second book in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus Series. Aphrodite is manipulative, evil, and selfish. She sends her son, Eros, to kill her enemies and this leaves Eros to believe that he will always be a monster. During one of the Olympus parties, Psyche sees Eros late to the party and injured from running an errand his mother sent him on. As Psyche cleans his wounds, Eros is captivated by her because he thinks ‘who would help a monster like him?’. Aphrodite’s next target is Psyche because Psyche poses a threat to Aphrodite’s power. Eros can’t go through with killing Psyche and instead persuades Psyche to marry him in order to protect her from his mother.

When I tell you I gasped when I received the E-ARC for “Electric Idol”!!! I love Katee Roberts and I am so grateful to have received an ARC for her book. Her writing style is my favourite and her characters are always so interesting. I love love loved Electric Idol! I felt that I could relate to a lot of the themes mentioned in the book and Eros and Psyche’s personalities were unique and well written. I loved the character development between the two characters and I cannot wait to read more of the Dark Olympus Series.

Eros wormed his way into my heart.

To me (TO ME), there are romance writers and then there is Katee Robert. She and Helen Hoang are my certified GOATs at this point. I'm about to gush about her so please indulge me. Katee Robert for my money is the most thoughtful romance writer I've read. In Neon Gods, I was so struck by the care and consideration she put into showcasing what consent looks like. It really was incredible to read about. And in Electric Idol, she continues to be so thoughtful with her characters. Psyche is plus size and I appreciated all the big and little things Robert did to champion her and show Psyche as a real person. A particular scene that spoke to me was when Eros said he would just buy Psyche a new wardrobe because she needed new clothes and she was like what are you kidding most of what you'd buy me probably wouldn't fit or feel good. And I was like "thank you!!!" because I've read similar scenes like that in multiple romances where it's just like never questioned that the dude would buy her new clothes and that they'd all fit perfectly. And not only does Katee Robert write characters so well, but she has also built an immersive world. I feel entranced by her writing in a way I don't normally feel while reading. I honestly feel like I'm there with the characters. SHE IS JUST SO GOOD TO ME.

I need to talk about Eros. Because WOW what a delightful surprise. I don't think I've ever had such a different feeling about a love interest from start to finish than with him. I started out feeling absolutely nothing for him. In the beginning, he had no personality to me and I couldn't get a read on him. But then...he turned into being one of the most thoughtful love interests I've ever read. Literally, one of my notes I jotted down reading this was, "you mean to tell me Eros is actually a gentleman?!" And it's all subtle too - nothing about his actions hits you over the head. ALSO confirmed that Eros would find me running my booksta attractive because he thinks Psyche is attractive when she stages pictures for her Instagram.

And Psyche is perfection to me. How could she not be? She's smart, careful and warm. One of my favorite parts of her was her ramblings because that is the most relatable content I'll ever read in a book. Babe knows who she is and doesn't change that and I loved to see it.

Lastly, this had one of my favorite epilogues ever. It was so wholesome!!

I finished this book in one day, it was so addictive.

Electric Idol takes place in the same world as Neon Gods, this time following Persephone's sister Psyche, and Aphrodite's son Eros. I have always been a fan of the myth of Eros and Psyche, so I was excited to see Katee Robert's interpretation, and I ended up really loving it.

The characters are perhaps my favorite part. Psyche is a plus-sized social media influencer, who understands how to play Olympus's power games while still remaining a good person in her heart. Eros is Aphrodite's fixer, forced to do her dirty work, and believes himself to be a monster. Their dynamic was so fun to read. They begin as enemies, forced into a marriage of convenience, and I loved watching them fall for each other.

The world-building is slightly expanded on from Neon Gods, but it's still fairly vague. That said, it wasn't vague enough to bother .me. I understood everything I needed to for the plot. The plot itself is fast-paced, with action and political intrigue mixed into the romance. There were some points where I felt we moved a little too fast, especially towards the end, but it didn't take away too much from those scenes.

In the end, Electric Idol is an incredibly fun read, perfect for fans of romance and Greek mythology. I can't wait for the next book in this series!

This was amazing.

My most favorite thing is that our main character, Psyche, is fat. And she is very wanted in this book by multiple people. They talk about how mean people are on social media in places, but they more talk about how beautiful her softness is and how her being fat just adds to her beauty. I really, REALLY, loved that. Fat representation is not the only thing we need in books; we also need to see the beauty in it in books and this one delivered.

Now this book only happens in a few days, so this is very much an insta-love book, BUT LIKE, so? I loved it lol. The steam was on point, the smut was perfection, the chemistry was read from the first page and just.. everything is what I wanted and needed and I loved it. I would say I loved it just as much as the first book. It is very different, I would say not as dark, but it was still fantastic.

Eros was a great protagonist as well. I don't have a lot to say about him besides he was very generous (LOL), he loved everything about Psyche and was protective about her, and I have no complaints.

I am IN this world, I love it. I cannot wait for the next story!

I absolutely loved Neon Gods so my expectations for this book were high. And it 100% lived up to them! I’d say it was a little less spicy than the first but overall, on the same level. I will recommend this book forever.

Dare I say I liked this one MORE than Neon Gods?? It’s a possibility! I just adore this world Katee has created. The drama, deception, love and realistic nature of it all pulls you in to the point where you feel like you’re part of Olympus. I adore Eros “in the extreme” (this quote was used way too often in the book but that’s really my only gripe). Now, back to Eros. Can we just pause for a moment? I’ve fallen in love with an actual murderer. But it’s fine, I’m fine. Nothing therapy can’t handle. I’ve got a soft spot for hades and Persephone retellings, but something about Electric Idol drew me in even more. It felt real and I connected to Psyche on a deeper level.

Electric Idol promised marriage of convenience and it gave us just that. With Katee Robert's talent for the "I hate everyone but you" trope, this book is sure to lock you in. I adored Psyche and all the conversations that got brought up about being in the public eye as a plus sized woman. Living as a confident, fat woman can be an everyday battle.
Psyche and Eros were an interesting couple that definitely bring the heat. Eros is OBSESSED with Psyche.
We get peaks into Hermes' character again in this book and it made me love her even more. The glimpses into Psyche's sister's lives were also nice. I think the world building got more explanation this time around and I enjoyed that.
The clear consent conversations that were so heavily showcased in Neon Gods were not in Electric Idol and ultimately made me not enjoy this one as much as Neon Gods. However, I still plan on reading every single book to come from this series.

Plus size heroine, marriage of convenience, let’s f*ck to get it out of our systems, and a hero who’s literally contracted to kill her…Katee Robert is the queen of writing smutty romance filled with amazing tropes!

As far as the retelling goes, I went into this knowing very little about the Psyche and Eros myth, so I’m not sure how accurate this was. I can definitely say that I want more of them though, so this succeeds in getting the reader invested in their story.

I did think the plot dragged a little. The entire story takes place over a few short days, so we were given A LOT of tiny details I could’ve forgone for the sake of a more drawn out story. More time of Psyche being pissed at Eros. More time of them slowly falling into their attraction. More time of them sleeping together and refusing to recognize the feelings between them. Even more time fighting Aphrodite.

The best part of the book was the couple though, specifically watching Eros melt for Psyche like a popsicle on a hot day. I loved that all it took was her being kind to him a few times for him to be smitten! And Psyche was such a strong character. I loved how badass she was and how well she played the game.

My biggest disappointment has nothing to do with this book, really. Callisto’s story is set up and ready to be told now, but we’re not getting her book next. I’m bummed we’re pausing on the Demitriou sisters in favor of Helen’s story.

There was a lot I liked from the sequel to Neon Gods. Eros and Psyche had really good chemistry and I loved watching them evolve through the book (in and out of the bedroom). The writing style was easy to get lost in.

However, I had a hard time caring about the plot. It didn't make much sense to me. The characters spent so much time talking about what they were planning on doing instead of actually doing it and it was all this uproar based on one tiny event that shouldn't have mattered so much. Also I found eros' relationship with his mother just...odd and cringy.

I’m giving this book 3 stars. Overall, it was fine. I enjoyed the steam factor between Psyche and Eros, but I just didn’t really believe in their emotional connection. Their romance was pretty insta-lovey. The world building wasn’t my favorite either, I think the usage of so much social media was off-putting. I also didn’t think the characters showed much sense of urgency over the main conflict until the end of the book. Both characters were very likable though, and overall, it was a decent reading experience.

Okay, wow! Katee Robert does not disappoint with this new installment in her Dark Olympus series. I loved Neon Gods a lot because I really adore the Hades/Persephone myth, but Electric Idol is my favorite of the two. It's a marriage of convenience, beauty and the beast kind of story that's super sexy and emotionally satisfying.
Psyche is a deeply competent heroine who can play the game of moving in Olympus but has a heart of gold. Eros is a broken and monstrous man who has been groomed by his mother to be a tool for enacting punishment on her behalf. Together they are incendiary.
For all my Kleypas fans, if you're a St. Vincent lover, this book is definitely for you.
I am so excited for the rest of this series!

ELECTRIC IDOL is a fun, fast-paced follow-up to Katee Robert’s NEON GODS. I know nothing about Eros and Psyche in traditional Greek mythology, but I had a BLAST reading Robert’s version of this couple’s story.

This series can only be described as urban contemporary Greek mythology fan fiction, and I mean that in a good way. ELECTRIC IDOL is sexy, swoony, and character-driven. Though a stand-alone sequel to NEON GODS, I do think those who have read Book 1 will have a better understanding of the world-building and Robert’s modern version of Olympus.

If you are interested in any of the following, ELECTRIC IDOL may be a great read for you:
-A fat, sexy influencer heroine who loves fashion
-A sad boy hero with mommy issues, who reluctantly learns how to (fall in) love
-A great cast of side characters who will appear in other books
-Politics but make it conniving and sexy
-Casual queerness and a world without homophobia and slut shaming
-Steamy sexy times (with mirrors)
-Modern retellings of Greek mythology

I cannot wait to read more books in this world! The Dark Olympus series is not the most substantial, thought-provoking literature, but gods dammit (pun intended) these books are so fun!

This retelling of the Greek gods as young adults who fall in love, deal in illegal activities, take out hits, and foster rivalries and alliances was a page-turner and a spicy romance novel. Psyche is the daughter of Demeter, and her story is actually a follow up to Neon Gods by Katee Roberts. In the preceding book, Neon Gods, the tale of Persephone and Hades is told. This is Psyche and Eros' love story, and it has suspense, star-crossed lovers, and a marriage of convenience trope. The characters are well-rounded, and compelling. The parties and opulence are perfectly fitting for these demigods and goddesses. I want to read about every mythological character through Katee Roberts' POV because this book was so good. I will definitely be following her other works as well. Highly recommended as a romance novel!

So I loved Neon Gods but I am OBSESSED with Electric Idol! This book was so so good I did not want it to end!

Plot: After the chaos that Olympus founds itself in at the end of Neon Gods, some players were changing, and course, a party was happening to welcome in that change. During that party, Psyche runs into Eros on her way to the bathroom and notices he seems injured. She offers him some kindness and assistance but a photographer catches them together and spins a tale. This of course upsets Aphrodite that her son would be seen with someone like Psyche, the daughter of her rival Demeter and who she doesn't feel is beautiful enough for her son so she demands Psyche's heart and requires that Eros be the one to bring it to her. Usually Eros has no problem shedding blood, but after Psyche showed him such kindness, he can't do it; so he does the only think he can think of to keep her safe and binds himself to her through marriage. Although their marriage may have started as a way to stay safe, the more they are together, the more it is feeling less like a sham. But will it be enough to keep stave off Aphrodite?

Review: This book had everything I LOVE!

* Marriage of convenience;
* suspense and it kept me on my toes;
* a wounded m/c who was really a softie at his core;
* a strong, confident female lead; and
* spicy, spicy romance!

Eros was the kind of character I want to reach through the pages and hug. Flawed, and damaged, and but really at his core, just like the rest of us -- a scared person wanting to love and be loved. And Psyche, she is so strong and confident and wants so badly for this thing between her and Eros to be real. You can't help but root for them the whole time.

The book is fast paced and so much fun. It is full of heart and soul and spice and I loved every second of it. I would HIGLY, HIGHLY recommend this book! I loved it so much! However, although it might can be read as a stand alone, I would definitely suggest reading Neon Gods first. I can't imagine reading this one without the context of the worlds, the power structure and the dynamics between the sisters and Demeter that Neon Gods establishes.

Loved it! Always worry when you read the second book in a series, whether it will live up to the hype/love you have for the first book, Neon Gods. This book did not disappoint.

Love love love Eros, who is all the angsty/“I don’t deserve love” while sacrificing everything hero who is almost instantly smitten with Psyche. And loved Psyche the plus size heroine who owns it, wears fabulous clothes, and knows her worth. Fun read that had me smirking and staying up late.

I've waited what feels like forever to get to know Psyche after reading about her Neon Gods. She was portrayed as this very cute, confident, and amazing sister and I am so grateful to have gotten this arc and the opportunity to read her story early.

I am absolutely enamored by the Dimitriou sisters and this book made me fall even harder for their dynamic! Katee did not hold back with the little cute family scenes but don't even get me started on the characters, Psyche is my curvy goddess with a golden heart and Eros is my mistreated god with an ooey-gooey center just for Psyche. Their story was a whirlwind and while I was seriously in love with these two as individuals, I was not prepared for how much I loved them together. As individuals, they're both cunning, loyal, and intelligent characters but together, they're a whole powerhouse.

I'm seriously in awe of how well Katee Robert has written this story and represented so many different aspects of life. We have the amazing curvy girl representation with Psyche, the very real loving yet frustrating family dynamic with the Dimitriou family, and the form of familial abuse most usually face. Though not only is the representation spot on, the flow of events is so seamless and in sync that I couldn't put this book down.

But ok side note, can we talk about that new Zeus and Hera also???? No one and I mean, NO ONE is ready for them and I can't wait to read their book, I just know they'll blow my socks off!!

The first Dark Olympus book, Neon Gods was so good it put me in a reading slump for two weeks, so OF COURSE I was eager to get a crack at the sequel, Electric Idol.
This books is GOOD. Psyche and Eros are a cute couple even as he is painted as the big, bad, knife in the dark. It's not the Slytherin/Hufflepuff romance of Hades and Persephone, but a Slytherin/Slytherin match of to sharp, ambitious minds who are trying to get what they want while refusing to rely on anyone else to safeguard those they love, which of course, eventually comes to include one another. Like Persephone, Psyche has her perfectly cultivated public persona, which Eros slips under accidentally and easily and once he does, he can't help but be attracted to her even with the major complication that is his mother.

The story follows similar beats to Roberts' previous work, but that's not a bad thing. The events and underlying feelings of each story are different and their own.

I'm so excited to be back in Olympus but this time with Psyche. Psyche who helps out dangerous Eros when he was injured then gets a target on her back by his mother. So he does the only thing he can think of fake sudden marriage. 🔥🔥🔥 There were no other options right Eros 😉

Aphrodite uses Eros as her hitman for any tiny infraction and he does what she commands, but not her. 

This book was so steamy and I loved that she was curvy, plus size and a social influencer. His outrage over the comments and her brushing them off. People are hateful when they don't see a human but a phone or computer. They would never say half the things they type out loud. 

I love these covers! I can't wait to get my pre-order with the art print from Aunties.

This was just as hot and thrilling as I thought it would be. Katie Roberts really knows how to keep a girl at the edge of her seat. Dual POV, "I hate everyone but you", witty banter, tension so thick I was sweating -- Roberts does it all. Eros is like everything I would want in a partner.

However, this book still lacked in world building. Don't get me wrong though, it was exponentially better than Neon Gods! I actually (kind of) understand it now. But I still have so many questions so minus one star for that.
