The romance in this book was definitely sweeter and more romantic than the first book. The build up of the plot was great- and when it boils out it was AMAZING. Like all of Katee's books- she writes a phenomenal plot, amazing smut, and characters that you want to learn more about. The book definitely felt slow in the beginning- however, once you learn more about the characters- it is unmatched. The spice, and tension is top tier.

Electric Idol is the sexy second book in the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert. It's a modern retelling of the Greek myths of Psyche and Eros.

I enjoyed the intriguing world building and the power dynamics, both the social dynamics and sexual dynamics. Eros is Aphrodite's son, and also her hitman. So of course he has mommy issues. He's ordered to kill Psyche, and in a moment of conscience (or lust) he decides to marry her to keep her safe.

Eros can't get enough of Psyche, even though he thinks himself a monster.

I liked the book. I haven't read the first in this series and had no problem jumping in to the second book.

The story of Electric Idol follows the story Eros and Psyche, delving deeper into the world of Olympus that was set up in Neon Gods.
What I really appreciated about the story was Katee Robert's sharp awareness of the social issues that surround a story like this. The power imbalance was carefully addressed, as were topics like fatphobia, personal agency, and the complicated interpersonal relationships that a world like this is bound to yield.

However, overall I think my feelings on Electric Idol are a little more mixed than they were on Neon Gods. Though Eros and Psyche are one of my favourite Greek myths, I felt that in this retelling they lacked the searing chemistry that Hades and Persephone had. I know that the text justifies it, but I genuinely struggled to buy that Eros chose to risk everything in his life to save Psyche just because she was nice to him once. I think it could have worked, had Eros really had a chance to work through his childhood trauma more; we got to see the trauma and how it affected him, but I feel as though he did not get a true chance to work through the trauma and come out properly healed. Eros and Psyche's relationship also took place over the course of barely a week; I struggled to connect with the fact that they had such a deep bond so quickly in their relationship.

I did enjoy lots of the moments in Electric Idol. It was a little fluffier and sweeter than Neon Gods, though I personally felt that the emotional highs and lows of Neon Gods hit much harder. On the whole, I do think that my more mixed feelings about Electric Idol come down to personal taste, as well as my expectations for the whole story.

Katee Robert does it again. I really loved Neon Gods and Electric Idol sure did add to my love of Katee's writing. Electric Idol will be on spicy booktok for sure this winter. If You haven't already read Neon Gods, thats okay. The strory of Psyche and Eros is a compliment to the story of Neon Gods. My man Eros though. love him.

Okay - I am a huge fan of greek mythology and knowing Katee was going to provide us with yet ANOTHER amazing retelling had me SO hype. I LOVED Neon Gods, which is the Hades and Persephone retelling set in the current time. But this retelling takes us on the journey of how Psyche and Eros come to cross paths. I thoroughly enjoyed Eros and his whitty tongue, but even more - I enjoyed Psyche and her "I don't take *bleep* from no one' attitude. Psyche is one of Persephone's sisters so we do get to see a glimpse of the family and how they all interact with one another on a more family-based level. Psyche is the strong-minded sister who thinks out every move she makes so when Eros enters her life, finding her way becomes obstructed by her pull to Eros.

Eros, even though he has the persona of being a player, really shows the reader that a man knows how to properly treat a lady. Psyche is one lucky gal and I cannot wait to see what else Katee has up her sleeve for future books.

The spice was there.
The story was amazing.
The dynamic between the MCs was just *chefs kiss*

With Psyche and Eros story being one of my favorite mythological tales, I think my expectations were set a little high from the beginning. However, it didn't stop me from absolutely loving the romance between Psyche and Eros. This had the Huntsman vibes, which resulted in a marriage of convenience, totally loved that twist. And from there, I was pretty eager to keep going.

From the high steam factor and just the inevitable connection between the both of them, there was no doubt in my mind that these two were meant to be.

I devoured the first half of the book and there was just so much to love. But the big thing that kept me from giving this a 5 was the plot. It just seemed a bit underdeveloped, I was definitely expecting a bit more especially with a huge cloud hanging over Psyche's future. It kind of just stayed at a plateau from the beginning.

It's a standing ovation for both characters and their romance that's forever sizzling. I'm still invested with the rest of this series especially Psyche's other sisters!

3.5/5

Phenomenally sexy, engaging and a real page turner. I found equal parts spice, feist and imagination between these pages. Absolutely electric indeed.

In the ultra-modern city of Olympus, there's always a price to pay. Psyche knew she'd have to face Aphrodite's ire eventually, but she never expected her literal heart to be at stake...or for Aphrodite's gorgeous son to be the one ordered to strike the killing blow.

Eros has no problem shedding blood. But when it comes time to take out his latest target, he can't do it. Confused by his reaction to Psyche, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he marries her. Psyche vows to make Eros's life a living hell until they find a way out of this mess. But as lines blur and loyalties shift, she realizes he might take her heart after all...and she's not sure she can survive the loss.- Goodreads

In all transparency, I didn't read the first book. Not because I wasn't interested but because everywhere I looked someone was reading it, posting quotes, giving reactions to it and I tend to stay away from overhyped books. The reason for reading this one is because the story was more appealing to me. And let me tell you, this was a good read.

I loved the writing style. I actually was a bit taken back by it as the author was pretty blunt with her description of characters. This was a good thing because it left no room for someone to be mistaken about who looks like what. I liked the world this book is based upon. I am 90% sure that the first book provides more background information on the world, so that would be the only thing I would say I am missing from not reading the first book. Other than that the recap is great and it is written in a way where you don't feel like the author is trying to drag the book.

In regards to characters, I loved Eros and Psyche together. I would have loved to see more depth in their personality and their story. It was straightforward and not as complicated as I thought it would be. Yes, having someone trying to kill your spouse is complicated but their development into love was a direct path that didn't provide any depth. Regardless, I loved the two and have a special place in my book heart for Eros.

Overall, I am not missing book one; it really wasn't necessary for me. I enjoyed this read and will probably read book three.

We are literally not worthy of queen Katee Robert. My god. I think Electric Idol may be the best romance book i've ever read. Psyche is the plus sized heroine I've always needed in my line, especially in tandem with murderous softie Eros. I don't think I"ve ever wanted a relationship more than this one to succeed. Electric Idol is a perfect blend of action and eroticism, and one of the best marriage of convenience's I"ve ever read. literally nothing but good things to say about this book. please stab me in the heart.

also i will not be recommending this book for my bookstore as we are a children's bookstore and it wouldn't be appropriate but holy hell i would if i could

Great characters in a sexy, soapy, imminently readable story, though the plot was a little light. Trope-wise you're getting marriage of convenience, opposites attract, and to an extent grumpy/sunshine. Loved seeing Psyche as a curvy girl and social media personality and Eros as a damaged, but not totally irredeemable fixer. The chemistry is pretty incendiary.

Re: the plot, for me, the why of the story was underdeveloped, leaving me thinking, "Oh, that's it ?The Gods were petty and about power plays, but isn't there more to it?" Either way, I'm totally on board for book three.

This was a fantastic follow up to Neon Gods. The expanding of the Thirteen was great and I just adored Eros. Psyche was a written beautifully and the aspect of her being plus sized in such an image driven world was refreshing to read. I can not wait to continue on this journey.

A worthy sequel to Neon Gods, which find Persephone's sister Psyche married to Eros in a bid to save her life from Eros' treacherous mother, Aphrodite. I love the world building in Katee Robert's Olympus, and can't wait for the next installment.

Psyche is a strong and confident woman who has always protected her sisters from the perils and politics of Olympus. Eros has been groomed to be his mother’s fixer since he was a child. A stranger’s unexpected kindness should mean nothing to him. When Psyche incites the murderous rage of Aphrodite, she’ll have to use all of her wits to escape with her life. Eros is told to bring Psyche’s heart to his mother, but has he finally been pushed too far? A marriage of convenience is the only way that Eros and Psyche might get what they both truly desire.

I love retellings with Psyche and Eros! In this version, Eros and Psyche are forced to unite against skeptical families, invasive journalists, and furious goddesses. One of my favorite parts of Electric Idol is how much Eros and Psyche must confront their deepest emotional fears and work together to find their way through Aphrodite’s irrational wrath. Of course, it goes without saying they have a fierce and scorching chemistry between them! I enjoyed Electric Idol just as much as (if not more than) Neon Gods. You do not need to have read Neon Gods to read Electric Idol, though there are fun cameos from the Dimitriou sisters and other gods/goddesses.

Electric Idol was a delightful dark romance and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys marriages of convenience, Eros/Psyche retellings, and steamy romance. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series! Electric Idol releases January 18, 2022. Thank you to Katee Robert, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Netgalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

For the publisher: My review will be posted on the publication date and I will publish it on Instagram, Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble etc

I love Greek Mythology and romances so this series is my kryptonite.
I really liked this one, just not as much as Neon Gods, but I think I'm biased because Persephone/Hades is my favourite Greek myth. This was a very original take on the Psyche/ Eros myth and still enemies-to-lovers since they are the offspring of rival families which I loved!

Thanks NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the eARC!

Electric idol was actually a whirlwind

We have all been down the path of Greek myth retellings but it’s aways been either PJO or hades and Persephone retellings and we have never really explored any of the other dynamics

Katee said, bet. Let me give you something fresh and new and lads it really was giving.

I quite literally fell into insta love with Eros and Pysche, their dynamic is so exciting and new and the way they handle each other’s personality is incredible

The way they met was very casual so I was slightly disappointed but I got to say their second meeting was when my heart soared for this book.

The Dark Olympian series started off so strong with Neon Gods and Miss Katee said let’s keep that energy going.

Can not wait for everyone to read this book, we got a lot to talk about then y’all 👀

THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, SO FAIR WARNING, UPON READING THE REVIEW.
Electric Idol is the second book in the “Dark Olympus” series and I have been so excited for this as I just fell in love with the first book “Neon Gods” and this story is a bit of a mix so it does have some Greek mythology of course, but also felt like a Snow White retelling with Snow White falling for the Huntsman. And I really love these Huntsman retellings, they are so fun to see the change in dynamics from wanting to kill to love. And I have to say that Katee Robert always does such a superb job in writing these type of set ups and I was highly intrigued to see how this one would play out. Another plus to reading this one is I got to buddy read this one with “Angie Elle” who does have a blog “Books and Beauty are My Bag” and we do enjoy buddy reading together. Electric Idol is such an interesting story that I think will work for many readers and fans of Katee Robert.

ELECTRIC IDOL IS A INTENSE FILLED BUT ALSO BALANCED WITH SWEET THAT FEATURES:
Eros-Works for his mother “Aphrodite”, has a dark past at doing his mothers bidding, a bit of a playboy but tormented about what he has become and doesn’t believe he is worthy of love
Psyche-is the most undervalued daughter of Demetrus, she is more curvy and is judged harshly by all of Olympus for that. She has a sweet nature but is also cunning and crafty like her mother.
Electric Idol is a story that starts off with our heroine and hero meeting up at a part of Olympus. And this is an occasion where Psyche knows that her mother is trying to match her with the new Zeus. As the last Zeus was killed recently and now his son has taken over. But that night Psyche meets with Eros, the playboy and assassin of Dark Olympus. He has a reputation of being dangerous and doing his mother’s crafty bidding, but also has a different woman on his arm at every events. Psyche knows she is in trouble when they meet in the bathroom and she tends his injuries that he has acquired. And when they are caught in a compromising situation, rumors abound and Aphrodite especially is outraged by the scandal. She views Psyche as an enemy to be eliminated. And see goes about to making that happen. And she commands her son Eros to kill Psyche even though a man has passed. When Eros and Psyche meet up that evening, Eros knows that he has to kill her and Psyche knows that he has no other choice but then they realize one other action could bring about the result they both desire…marriage. They know that this is a marriage of convenience and a bit of showing Olympus how in “love” they are with each other, but what starts out as a fake marriage, becomes very real quickly but Aphrodite is not to be messed with and Eros and Psyche might be living on borrowed time….

Electric Idol is a story that really worked for me, now, not quite as much as Neon Gods did (as that was a much higher rating) so I didn’t quite enjoy this one quite as much, but it was definitely such a solid story that I really fell for. Eros and Psyche just had a romance that worked for me. Now I do want to point out that this does have elements of instant love connection, its not going to be a slow burn. We do see once they are married, the plot of the story really speeds up and there are only a handful of days that we see this story reach its conclusion, so keep that in mind. Now if you read a lot of romance, than this factor isn’t going to effect you too much, because short time lines happen quite frequently in the genre. I found it believable though. I know many couples that have had this type of connection and YES you can fall in love quickly. But I do love these tropes that enter into this story. You really see a lot of depth from Eros especially. I would have liked to have seen a bit better of character growth from Psyche, we do get much more focus on Eros. Of course, he is much more emotionally damaged than Psyche is. His mother has really does a piece of work on him and he really struggles with his worth. I really found Psyche to be such a strong heroine, she does have her vulnerabilities especially in how the community treats her because of her “body image” but I really loved how she tends to not let it bother her too greatly. She understand how society looks at image and has learned to ignore the toxicity of it. Eros though he is adorable because he gets so protective over her for it. He accepts her as she is and loves her body and the woman she is. We definitely see some unique dynamics between the two here. Their story is one that does happen quickly though. We see how Aphrodite doesn’t give them much “wedded bliss” before acting out her plans to get rid of Psyche. And man the ENDING…..the way Psyche handles her is just perfection. Poor ZEUS, he has no comprehension of the complex dynamics that Psyche will bring to the table and I have a feeling in his book its going to be EPIC. And yes I am pretty sure its Callista and Zeus who are in book three. I heard there was menage in that one but not sure about that yet. We shall see what our delightful author will deliver to us.

Overall I found Electric Idol to be a complex foray into the mythology and blending a modern love into the mix. Its a story that will delight, focus, and surge emotion to encompass its readers in such a elemental way. Be ready for a ride of intrigue, smexy times and some surprises you won’t see coming.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of this book!

Overall, this was a very enjoyable read. The author adapted the Eros/Psyche storyline well and is even laying hints at a future story with Callisto and the new Zeus. I also like that the author delves into the Dimitriou familial relationship more--seeing their domestic lives humanises Demeter in a way the first book was not able to.

One of the issues I had with this book is the same that I had with the the first in the series "Neon God," namely that for all the world building the author does in regards to the politics, legacy positions vs elected positions, the geography of the city... it is still not explained as to whether there is magic in this world.

It is implied there is some kind? of magic in this world, in the form of the River Styx at the very least, but it is still very unclear as to whether there is an established magic or how this magic works. At some point in this series, I would like if it were explained more clearly.

Great addition to the series! Looking forward to Callisto's book in the future~

I really enjoyed Neon Gods, but I was slightly disappointed with this one. The story gets off to a slow start, bogged down with a lot of world-building details that Neon Gods lacked; it's like Robert felt the need to make up for that this time around. Unfortunately, much of those details come across as expository and repetitive since Psyche and Eros share narration duties. I wasn't feeling the chemistry between this couple either; they didn't seem to know why they liked each other.

If there's to be a third, I'm not sure that I'll continue with this series.

Katee has done it again. I absolutely loved this book so much. It was a quick read and had me from the first chapter. I absolutely loved the MC, and I loved that she gives us a dual POV. I never quite knew where it was headed and it ended up surprising me. And of course the spice level was perfect.
You also get a glance at Persephone and Hades as well. I Can't wait to recommend this when it comes out & will definitely be buying a physical copy To re-read and annotate. ♡♡

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I absolutely LOVED Electric Idol, more so than I did Neon Gods, which was also amazing, don't get me wrong. However, in book 2 of Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series, we really get to see the city of Olympus expanded and I definitely feel like I understand the way that Olympus operates much more than I did reading Neon Gods. We are also introduced to so many more characters, that it really sets you up for so many potential stories within this universe.

Eros and Psyche's characters were also so well developed over the course of this novel and I truly fell in love with them both. They way that they both help each other heal and support one another was so beautiful that I could honestly read about them forever. This is perhaps one of my favorite, if not my favorite, contemporary marriage of convenience stories of all time.

If you enjoyed Neon Gods, you will definitely love Electric Idol. The vibes are definitely different (Neon Gods was more dark and mysterious while Electric Idol is more sweet and heartfelt), but Eros and Psyche clearly shine in their own light and it's honestly pure magic.
