I absolutely LOVED this book. What an amazing spin on an interesting subject. The characters were well-rounded and easy to commiserate with. The storyline is by far one of the most creative I’ve read in a long time. I was invested from the very beginning. The writing is engaging and fleshed out from start to finish.

Psyche and Eros are perfect for each other and the trials they face both as individuals and together really makes you pull for these characters. While it seems like it’s Them vs Olympus and everything thrown in their way seems insurmountable, watching them grow as people and as a couple was extremely satisfying.

I haven’t read the previous book, but I’m adding it to the top of my TBR pile immediately.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review!

OKAYYYY HADES WHO? I only know daddy Eros. This book was actually really good!!!

Electric Idol is the second instalment in the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert where we follow the story of Psyche, daughter of Demeter - goddess of the harvest, grain, and fertility; and Eros, son of Aphrodite - goddess of love, pleasure, passion and procreation. It is a modern day retelling set in dark Olympus where Psyche is forced to go into an arranged marriage with the new Zeus and become the next Hera. Eager to escape the set-up made by her ambitious mother, Psyche bumps into the most vicious and notorious man - Eros. The two are seen leaving the restrooms together and in just a couple of hours thousands of paparazzi photos are blasted all over the internet. It is no secret that Demeter and Aphrodite are blood-sworn enemies, so once the later sees the photos, she is quick to come up with a revenge plan and put those rumours to rest once and for all.

Aphrodite’s solution to fix this 'disastrous' situation is of course to send her 'errand' son to kill the innocent lovely girl. However, little does she expect for her son to finally grow a conscious and set in motion events which will turn the whole Olympus upside-down. Upon meeting with Psyche, Eros cannot but feel entranced by her character and beauty. He comes up with a 'temporary' solution until they both can escape unscathed - a fake marriage, present a front so convincing that the whole Olympus will be head over heels with their romance and protect them form his mother's malicious desires. Though reluctant Psyche agrees to the marriage. And sooner than later they both start to develop feelings towards each other.

Both characters were so easy to love. Psyche is strong, independent, cunning and desperately desires for normality in her crazy life - for a person to love and cherish. Little did she expect to find her 'person' in the face of the most notorious killer in all Olympus. Eros, on the other hand, presents a cold and distant facade but is such a softie on the inside. His simple desire in life is to have a family, something which he finds in the eyes of the woman he loves. Ughhh they were so precious!!!

It is a sexy, thrilling and fun story which I am so grateful to have the chance to read before release date. For this, I want to say thank you to NetGalley for gifting me an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Eros was sent to kill Psyche but because she was nice to him once, he asks to marry her instead to keep her protected and I was screaming the entire time.

The banter, the tension, and the rollercoaster of emotions done in that perfect Katee Robert fashion. I'm always in love.

The Dark Olympus series is NOT for mythology purists. The names of the characters are simply titles in a contemporary setting with the myths we know being a pretty loose jumping off point. In this book, we get more insight to how the city of Olympus operates and how deep the level of corruption runs.

I'm a sucker for 'I hate everyone but you' tropes and Eros truly delivers in his love for Psyche, a woman who prioritizes self-love and empathy.

I really enjoyed this novel. All the aspects of a great read were found within these pages. Be sure to pick up this title!

Well, hello there Eros – nice to meet you and your lovely, lovely (soon-to-be) wife Psyche. It truly was a treat reading your story in the modern of world of Greek gods.

Son of Aphrodite, Eros is her henchman who runs around Olympus doing her dirty work and earning a dark reputation for it. Psyche is the second of Demeter’s daughters, and the story picks up right after Hades and Persephone’s love affair from Neon Gods. Aphrodite, ever conniving and attempting power plays, puts a hit out of Psyche’s life. Once meeting her, though, Eros realizes he’s in deep and offers the only protection he can – he marries her.

In a mix of social media ploys, back room deals, and a brawl in the park (kind of), Eros and Psyche begin to realize that their forced marriage is actually one of love and appreciation, and maybe when the forced parameters are removed, they don’t want to end it?

Also, incredible sex … it is Eros, after all.

That said, this is not the exhibitionist/kink story that was Neon Gods (because that throne room does. not. play. y’all.) It is everything Katee Robert, though – sex positive, consensual, hot and involves a mirror or two. This story is certainly 18+, but no real trigger warnings need posted.

I would definitely recommend this story in general, and will definitely be rereading this series as (hopefully!) more stories follow about their two sisters.

Wow. I wasn't sure it was possible to top Neon Gods (I mean, Hades & Persephone are the ultimate pairing and I don't actually know anything about Psyche & Eros) but somehow it happened. I'm adoring the plus-sized heroine & the grumpy/sunshine dynamic. I love a reformed monster, as well. It really hit every one of my hot spots. I am foaming at the mouth for Zeus and Callisto's book.

I read the first book in the Dark Olympus series and enjoyed it- I love Hades and Persephone retellings, and I also love the sunshine-grump dynamic. I also think Robert is excellent at setting up side characters, which made me anticipate this book with excitement. I was also hoping that Electric Idol would solve some of the issues I had with the first book.

I did love Electric Idol, it has a lot of great themes and strong central characters. One of the prevailing themes in this series is parental abuse, and that gets more intense in this book. I continue to hate Demeter with a passion, and I feel for her daughters. We get to see Psyche really playing the world and presenting a face for the cameras, and how good she is at it. Eros as his mother's enforcer is equally interesting, and I just love a guy who immediately falls for the first woman who is nice to him. I equally love that Psyche sees a trained killer and feels compassion for him. The story is really about two damaged people finding themselves together, and I'm a sucker for that stuff.

In terms of things that disappointed me, there's quite a bit. Electric Idol is a reminder to me that I can enjoy reading a book and think parts of it are really solid while having issues with other parts! One of the biggest problems with this book is one that we saw in Neon Gods, the issue of world-building. Most readers know that exposition dumps can take you out of the story, but a lack of context can be just as distracting. The biggest, most consistent problem I have with these books is that there is just so little explanation of the world of the story. We know that Olympus is a real place, and the Underworld is like another district, and the Olympians have dominion over the city. The titles of the gods pass to new people periodically, and the three elder gods, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus are passed from parent to child. Each Olympian rules over their own domain, but that's pretty much all we get. That's all she wrote, folks. There does appear to be an outside world, as Persephone has a plan to escape the city and go to the mundane world, but that's pretty much all we know. One of the most fun parts of retellings is seeing how they are different, and how the author choses to interpret the original story. I would say this book continues the sort of mobster romance vibe the first book had, though it's way less kinky than the first one. Neon Gods definitely has a more BDSM tone, and this one is just garden variety erotica. I wasn't disappointed by that, I think it's good for the story and works for the characters, but it is a change in tone between books.

I want to thank NetGalley for an ARC of Electric Idol by Katee Robert. First off I love Katee Robert as an author she is amazing. Electric Idol was super good I highly recommend it! Can’t wait to see and read what Katee does next!!

This book 👏 👏 👏 this is the plus size representation that I’ve wanted. Olivia Dade does excellent plus-size/fat heroines (we all know this) but SO DOES KATEE FREAKING ROBERT. Psyche is a big girl & Eros absolutely worships her. Not because she’s fat and not in spite of it. She just is. And he just adores her. This man is the biggest simp and we love him for it. As someone who is most definitely plus-sized, some of the “inclusive” romances that I’ve read have left a bad taste in my mouth. But between Tink in A Worthy Opponent and Psyche in Electric Idol, I felt seen and represented and beautiful. These are strong women who exists in the bodies they have and we love them for it.

Electric Idol is soft and sweet and simply perfect. I absolutely adore Eros and Psyche. Like everyone else, I’m now the biggest fan of “she showed me kindness once so now I owe her my undying love and loyalty”.

Picture this: you pissed off Aphrodite so she sends her son to kill you. Instead you marry him in an epic wedding to end all marriage of continence weddings ever and end up with the best HEA ever. That’s this book. And you need it. You want it. Go preorder it.

Thanks to SourceBooks & NetGalley for the ARC. All thoughts are my own. Electric Idol is book two in Katee’s Dark Olympus series and is out January 2022. I can’t wait for book three

In Katee Robert’s follow-up to the first book in the Dark Olympus series, we follow Psyche (the sister of the female main character in the first book) and Eros. I appreciated the glimpse of the sister relationship that we got in the first book, so I’m excited that the series will be expanding the characters. Especially because I never would have gotten the chance to fall for Psyche as the main character in her own story! She’s a badass: caring, does what she needs to, impeccable style, and just really great. Eros was a complicated sad-boy villain… which is a really weird descriptor, but it makes sense in my head. Basically I was very much here for this pairing. And I’m loving the dark, seedy world that Robert has created within a corrupt political system. I expect it’ll make the conflict within each book so good. I can’t wait.

This series gets points for creativity - throwing us into the world of the Greek Gods. Reading this novel, I had to google the stories of Psyche and Eros, the two protagonists of the story. It is a fantastic world that Katee Robert has created, and the relationship between the two was pretty free of conflict and sweet. It was a quick and easy read, with a little bit of danger and plenty of Katee Robert's typical steam. This isn't the best novel of hers that I have read, but it is very good.

I grew up loving Greek mythology. When I was approved for this ARC, I admit I was excited. However, the love story is greatly rushed. The heroine promises the reader and herself that she will not sleep with her new husband, taking a stand. A few pages later, she's giving into him. I wanted to like this one but found it to be just an "okay" read.

This book helped me feel better during a difficult week, just like Katee Robert's books always do for me and i'm so so so happy i got approved to read it early! I love the way Katee writes her characters and their romances and this book was another gem. Eros and Psyche are adorable together and the way their relationship progresses after they marry is so sweet to read about. Their sex scenes were also 10/10 good and i can't wait to read Wicked Beauty. Thank you for this, Katee!

This book had me BLUSHING!! I don't know why I was surprised considering this is a Katee Roberts exclusive, but this book was amazing. Especially since Eros is a plus sized heroine. I loved everything about it .

Sexy, steamy, and addicting!

I was a little hesitant when I got this book, because I wasn’t too crazy about the first one. However, this book was still enjoyable.

It was definitely a book I used to pull me out of my book funk.

I really loved getting to know Psyche and Eros. I loved getting to watch their story unfold, the twists and turns, and seeing some familiar characters.

This was a fun read, and I think it benefited from being the second book in this series in that we didn't have to do much world building - the author was able to launch into the action rather immediately. I also appreciate that the author took the time to delve into some of the emotional issues our main characters were dealing with, Eros in particular. That said, I didn't necessarily "buy" that Eros was all that dangerous - much of this was told to us, rather than demonstrated in any plot points. Without some of that to witness for ourselves, we lose a bit of the emotional punch that could come from his development and him finding refuge and understanding in Psyche. Their bond was a little insta-lovey, but listen: that's sort of what we're all here for. Was this book perfect? No. Was it fun? Absolutely. Will I read the next ones in the series? You bet.

Pulled me in right from the start, Katee Robert has created an engaging mythological world. A wonderful follow up to Neon Gods, very much looking forward to book three of the series!

This is a very interesting and sexy world that makes me eager to read more books. However, I didn't find this as sexy as the previous book. I love a good build-up of tension. I want to be on the edge of my seat waiting for a couple to get together. Instead, Eros and Psyche got together way too quickly.

When this book delves into this world things get interesting. I wanted to see more of the world than Ero's apartment. I'm eager to read what happens next book.
