I really enjoyed the concept but found that the characters fell in love too quickly and that the plot didn't really interest me. I wanted more tension between the characters so that the payoff was well earned, everything happened too quickly and I found it unbelievable that their relationship could develop that fast. Overall, an okay story that I wish captivated me more.

In the super modern city of Olympus, where bougie elites vie for power and prestige, we come upon the story of Psyche and Eros, based on the greek myth. Taking place after the events of Neon Gods, Psyche and Eros are forced to enter into marriage to keep Psyche safe from the conniving Aphrodite. What begins as purely contract to ensure Psyche's heart remains in her chest, slowly starts to become something more, much to Eros's surprise. Eros, the bad boy of Olympus, finds his own heart slowly melting for Psyche, but he doesn't believe his monstrous heart will ever be worthy of her.

I wish I could say I unequivocally loved this book, but it just didn't quite hit the mark. Following Neon Gods is difficult, and while the stakes were high, I just didn't feel the same attachment to Psyche and Eros as I did to Hades and Persephone. Psyche and Eros's interaction's didn't show me any sort of emotional growth, it just kind of happens, and the reader is meant to accept it. What troubled me most was the actual grounds of the entire situation of the story. Aphrodite seems to feel personally slighted by Psyche, but I honestly have no idea why. When the inciting incident of a story is so flimsy it leads to the rest of the narrative crumbling. Psyche and Eros's relationship couldn't support the lack of strength in the plot. I did enjoy the ending however and Psyche's plotting. She really is much more clever than the elites of Olympus give her credit for.

I was also expecting more spicy scenes! I am very familiar with Katee Robert's books, and this one didn't leave me fanning myself as her past books have. This just further lead to a lack of chemistry I felt between Eros and Psyche.

I was most intrigued by the background characters, mostly Helen and Callisto. I really hope we get to see more of their story in the upcoming books.

While I was disappointed in this one, I will definitely keep reading, especially because I know Achilles and Patroclus will be taking center stage in the next book!

I was honestly not expecting to like this book as much as I did! I loved this story, which is about Psyche and Eros. Now that duo I have read a different book about and hated it, but now I will go to this book when I think of this pairing! It was very much the trope of "she was nice to me and so I will guard her with my life". When Aphrodite demands the heart of Psyche on a plate Eros agrees. But after meeting her again he decides to marry her instead. Danger and tension ensue. I will say that I found this book less "spicy" than the previous book. Or maybe just a little less kinky... I read way too much AO3 to be a good judge. All things aside I 10/10 suggest this book for all mythology romance lovers!

Welcome back to the world of Olympus where a marriage of convenience is the only thing that will keep both Psyche and Eros safe.

I think this one really showed the essence of who the characters are in the lore of mythology, but the story separates itself completely. I really enjoy the liberties Katee has taken with these very *very* loose retellings.

I found Psyche to be such a likeable character; I preferred her over Persephone in Neon Gods. Eros was just a little cinnamon roll and I wanted to hug him 89% of the time.

I loved the LGBTQIA+, POC, and plus size rep!

Looking forward to reading the next one but I would just love a Zeus retelling!

A fun follow up to Neon Gods. Eros and Psyche are a great beauty and the beast substitute. I really appreciated the acknowledgment of Psyche being “plus sized” and still a major influencer. I enjoyed it!

O.M.G. Electric Idol is now one of my favorite books of the year! Eros and Psyche were PERFECTION. He's all growly and cold and she's all bubbly and brilliant. At least that's what it looks to the outside. As their layers fell, I knew these two would live in my heart forever.
I love this world Katee Robert has created and I'm honestly so excited for more books in the series!

Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for giving me a free e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book is a companion to the first novel, Neon Gods. I will say that I naturally have more of an attachment to the myth of Hades and Persephone so I was bound to find more resonance with the first novel. However, I found this retelling of Eros and Psyche to be refreshing. As a plus size individual, I found Psyche pretty good representation. I personally like that she was not constantly insecure about her size and that she was confident. That is not often found in plus size representation. On the reverse, I found it compelling that Eros is the one that is insecure in himself and that there is ample reasoning for that. I liked that we got a vulnerable masculine man and that it wasn't seen as a contradiction.

I think the pacing was good, I read the novel relatively quickly considering what I have going on in my life.

One critique that I have is that we don't have very much interaction with Aphrodite herself. She comes across relatively flat which is kind of frustrating.

Neon Gods was one of my favorite reads of the entire year so I was extremely excited to receive an ARC of Electric Idol. I think I'd still rank Neon Gods higher, but I still really enjoyed this second installment. Eros and Psyche have an adorable meet-cute in the bathroom at a party for the Thirteen, and she helps him clean up some wounds from a job he took prior. The two of them are seen together by the paparazzi, and Eros's mother Aphrodite really doesn't like that. So she orders Eros to kill Psyche, naturally.

Eros decides that it would be a better idea to marry Psyche and give her a form of immunity against his mother's plans, so the two embark on a very public, whirlwind romance. This book was fake relationship, marriage of convenience, and a bit of forced proximity. I really loved that Psyche was plus-sized, as we don't get enough of that representation in romance books. Overall loved it! 4.5/5 stars.

Electric Idol is the second book in Katee Roberts Dark Olympus series. In book one we followed Persephone and Hades and in this book we follow one of Persephone’s sister’s Psyche. This book picks up where the events from book one left, there is a new Zeus at the helm of Olympus and Hades has been reinstated as one of the Thirteen, though he still remains in the Underworld most of time, and there is still the title of Hera that needs to be filled. Demeter is still trying to place one of her daughters in the title of Hera, which of course enrages the resident matchmaker Aphrodite. After Psyche, Demeter’s daughter, get’s a little too much media attention Aphrodite has had enough and sends her son Eros after Psyche’s heart. But Eros can’t follow through on his set of instructions and instead hatches a plan to keep Psyche safe, by marrying her. Psyche see’s no other way to keep herself alive, so she agrees, but with some conditions. But is Psyche doesn’t realize is her heart might still be at risk.

I cannot emphasize how much I enjoyed this book! Katee is able to create fully developed, emotionally rich characters and a plot that had me flipping through pages while still keeping it fun and sexy and a pure delight! I was especially excited to see how she developed the myth of Eros and Psyche into a retelling. I love how she has chosen to create a world that feels so grandiose and exactly where these larger than life characters from Olympus belong while giving the reader and entirely new story to enjoy.

I really loved Electric Idol! It was exactly what I expected. I love Greek myth retellings, and I'm so glad Robert decided to focus on the story of Eros and Psyche. Psyche in particular was a great lead. She didn't take any shit, and was afraid of being a "bad" person. She's cunning, aggressive, and does what she wants: she doesn't need to be saved. I loved it s

I LOVED Neon Gods and was so thankful to receive this ARC. 🙌🏻 Electric Idol follows Psyche, another of Demeter’s daughters, She is paired with Eros, Aphrodite’s thug of a son. Aphrodite and Demeter are big time enemies, and Aphrodite orders Eros to kill Psyche. It’s not a gentle into the night time death, either. Eros has a rare stroke of conscience and comes up with a brilliant and slightly flawed scheme to save Psyche. I enjoyed their banter, love this world and the unique (and often hilarious) take on mythology. As usual, Katee Robert is the queen of sexy scenes. Excited to read the next one in this series!

I had a very deep attachment to Neon Gods and this second installment in the Dark Olympus series did not disappoint. Time and time again, Katee Robert proves masterful at delivering sizzling and emotional dynamics between characters that are always powerful and always more than they appear. While the trademark chemistry and vulnerability that readers turn to Katee for was delivered in spades, the writing was repetitive at times, and the ending felt somewhat rushed. Overall, a very enjoyable read that I would happily recommend to anyone who loved Neon Gods or enjoys Katee's books.

I requested this one prior to starring the first book and I ended up dnfing the first book so I didn't bother picking this one up. But from I've seem this is a beloved series so I recommend picking it up and trying it out for yourself!

Another amazing steamy book by Katee Robert!! I didn't think anything could top Hades and Persephone, but this one was just as good! The alternating POVs was perfect, and my favorite scene was the epilogue. It was the perfect ending!! This cover is also STUNNING! I love this world, and I cant wait to read the next one! Thank you Sourcebook Casablanca and Netgalley for my early copy in exchange for a honest review!

Thank you a million times over to Katee Robert, NetGalley, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the advance reader's copy of Electric Idol.

In the best way possible, I absolutely lost my mind reading this book. I guarantee you will too. I was fortunate enough to read an ARC of Neon Gods and also loved that book, but Electric Idol really took a huge step forward for me. I am continually in awe of how Katee is able to raise the stakes and make her immersive world more seductive with every novel I read. It is a true gift and we are blessed!

I loved the pairing of Psyche and Eros, which was a pleasant surprise because I have not seen many other retellings feature this coupling. Neon Gods really focused on lust and sex, while Electric Idol is all about lust and love.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Psyche being a proud and sexy plus-size woman. Katee is a master at writing plus-size characters with compassion and care, she is only of the only romance authors who will flat out say that characters are plus-sized, which seems like such a small thing, but means the world to plus-size readers. Psyche encounters fatphobia often throughout the book, which is unavoidable as fat characters, but Katee works diligently to dispel and counter this harmful mindset within the novel, which helps to dismantle the fatphobia we see constantly in our world and many fictional worlds still.

This is the perfect sequel to Neon Gods. It's STEAMY, SEXY and FULL OF HEART. Go preorder it now, trust me. Future you will be thankful.

If it has Katee Robert's name on it, I'm buying it, loving it, and recommending it for the rest of time.

There is so much to say about my love for this book. First the plus size rep. It was there but it wasn’t some dark sadness or area of overwrought drama. Psyche owned her body and her confidence. The spice was *chef’s kiss*… seriously Eros has an oral fixation. I love the political aspects of these books so much it really makes the plot more interesting.

After reading Neon Gods, I was eager to read the next installment following Psyche and Eros. This doesn't start off the way of any typical romance. Eros is sent by Aphrodite to murder Psyche, that is not usually how true love begins. Eros is no saint, he is the hired hand of mother Aphrodite, sent to do her dirty work, he is a killer. This time, it is different, Psyche is different. She shows him kindness, when no one else does, helps him with his wounds. Instead of killing her, Eros protects Psyche in the only way he can, tying her to him. This modern retelling of greek mythology is full of darkness, power and consuming heat. Definitely a book for mature audiences.

What do the Gods do after dark?

While I enjoyed Persephone and Hades’ story, I loved Eros and Psyche’s even more

Psyche is not your typical socialite. Indeed, Demeter’s middle daughter is a savvy plus-size influencer whose only wish is to leave back-stabbing Olympus behind. But when Aphrodite is challenged by Psyche’s popularity, she orders her son Eros to bring her Psyche’s heart.

Eros, meanwhile, was conditioned by his evil witch of a mother to be a soulless assassin on her behalf. But when mommy dearest orders Psyche’s heart on a platter, he finds that for the first time, he can’t obey her orders. Instead, Eros will do anything he can to keep Psyche safe, even enter into a marriage of convenience.

As Eros finds that he is not the monster he thinks he is, and Psyche discovers that she is so much more than the facade she maintains, will they be able to keep their budding relationship safe?

I adored this book. My only almost-gripe is that the timing felt a little rushed (which I also felt in the first book). But this was sexy, it was angsty, it was everything I could want from a hero in pursuit and a plus-size and sex positive heroine. I don’t want to give too much away, but you have to pick this up when you can!
