After Aphrodite charges her son/fixer Eros to bring her Psyche’s heart, Eros does the next worst thing: he marries Psyche and vows to protect her from his mother. While several tropes do rattle around the book, the main trope is Marriage of Convenience, which is my jam (next to Parson’s Mousetrap). Once I had the physical book in my hands, I could not put it down. Robert cleverly continues the Dark Olympus storylines she started in Neon Gods, and I cannot wait to see where she goes next with the children of the Thirteen.

My initial thoughts is that I did not like this book as much I liked Neon Gods. While I did like Psyche and Eros’s dynamic this book was lacking some of the things I really enjoyed in Neon Gods. I would argue that if Neon Gods didn’t work for you, Electric Idol probably had more of what you were looking for. Having said all of that I still really enjoyed it! While there was less spice, Katee’s smut always delivers! The world building was a bit confusing to me so I’m hoping in the next books that gets expanded on. Loved seeing Hades and Persephone as background characters in this one!

I really enjoyed this installment of Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series. Psyche and Eros were such a lovely couple to read about and I found their dynamic to be particularly interesting. I also enjoyed the worldbuilding we got in this one and the new characters that were introduced.

This is definitely a series I would recommend to romance readers and my personal favorite in the series so far.

A very modern Eros and Psyche...

Set in a fantasy modern Olympus, with an extra helping of steamy times.
I like how Katee Robert likes to push the edge and she's found the perfect path with her retelling of the Greek gods.
Eros and Psyche are such a classic tale (a form of Beauty and the Beast) and one of the oldest, so its always fun to find a fresh take and this one is fresh and naughty.

Recommend.

I was really kind of feeling "eh" about reading this after my feelings about Neon Gods..but this one was SO GOOD. I loved Eros and I loved Psyche. I loved the body representation in this book, although sometimes I did feel like it was a little too overdone. I loved that there was a bit more substance to this one vs. Neon Gods but that the heat was still there-and the scenes were fantastic. And who doesn't love a monster turned hero complex?? I'm here for this one. It took me less than 24 hours to devour this and I wish I had more of Eros and Psyche's story!

Fantastic sequel to Neon God!!! Love the entire world building and all the political intrigue that comes into play. This second book had marriage of convenience/fake dating as the main trope.

This story between Eros and Psyche felt more character focus which honestly is probably my favorite thing to read. You have 2 people who construct their personas to the public to meet a certain level of what people expect from them but these two only (only ever these 2) see the real person behind the persona they’ve perfectly cultivated. Also, the insta-love and chemistry between these 2 just added to their relationship versus ruining it.

Out of all the characters I’ve read I feel like I saw a lot of myself in Psyche.

I.... loved this book. WAY more than I expected. I liked Neon Gods a lot, and I expected to like this one a lot as well, but idk, there is something about Eros and Psyche that I can't stop thinking about. I seriously loved the dynamics between the characters and how the relationship developed.

Psyche, daughter of Demeter and sister of Persephone from Neon Gods, is a plus sized social media influencer in Olympus. At one of the usual Olympus events, she runs into Eros, Aphrodite's son and "fixer". He is feared by most, and for good reason, since his reputation really does precede him. After being injured doing his mother's dirty work, Psyche shows him a sliver of kindness by helping clean him up. Eros rarely has kindness shown to him, and so he ends up holding onto the bit Psyche shares with him for his life. When Psyche's life becomes endangered, the only feasible option to protect it is for her and Eros to marry.

I love a good marriage of convenience, especially when one of the characters is grumpy, miserable, and meant to have no feelings, but slowly finds parts of themselves cracking due to the care shown by the other. All Psyche has to do it look at Eros and he's putty in her hands. I love when big bad "monsters" become mush when a love interest shows them affection or warmth and this books delivers.

The plus size rep was also so well done. As someone who is plus sized herself, seeing a fat woman as the lead in a romance, were not only does she find love, but where she is desired from many by the get-go was SO refreshing. I love when fat women are seen as just as worthy as anyone else.

I'm so excited to see where this story goes, who ends up with who, and how their relationships develop. This has easily become a new favourite romance series of mine and I'm so looking forward to the rest of the installments.

Katee Robert actually did it again. This time we have a arranged married, “i was suppose to kill you but I ended up falling for you” type of dynamic and i'm here for it. Following Psyche and Eros' greek myth, after an act of kindness Eros decides to spare Psyche's life after his mother, Aphrodite, tells him to kill her. I was super intrigued by how this dynamic would work since their mothers hate each other but it was fantastic. It had the right amount of romance, spice and actions. I felt like the plot was lacked some consistency but It was good nonetheless.

I have always loved Psyche's story and Electric Idol is no exception. Robert retains elements from the original, while also offering sizzling chemistry and characters that were so relatable to me. This dual POV is a brilliant move in this enemies to lovers - or family enemies at least - as it establishes this attraction they cannot deny. Often we find ourselves denying our feelings, especially when it toes this line between someone who drives us up the wall.

Psyche and Eros come from such distinct separate worlds. Electric Idol gave me a better sense of the Demetrious sisters which only puts their lives in more contrast to Olympus. Their dynamic of a sunshine character who is so carefully constructing her own image versus a protective and convinced-he's-no-good character wrapped me up. In Electric Idol I loved watching Psyche unfold, to see the cracks under her armor, how she contends with the fatphobia, and the ways both of them don't see their own worth.

I love Katee Robert. Seriously. She's one-click buy for me. "Electric Idol" goes down in the pantheon of her greatness. I have a soft spot for the myth of Eros and Psyche, and even though this book doesn't follow the major strokes of it all, I loved every second of it.

The second in the Dark Olympus series, this follows Psyche, another of Demeter's daughters (sister to Persephone, heroine of the first book) and Eros, Aphrodite's assassin son. When Psyche and her mother's scheming for power, not to mention a poorly timed paparazzi shot, put Psyche in Aphrodite's crosshairs, Eros is set to bring his mother Psyche's heart on a platter -- literally.

But Psyche has already started to thaw Eros' icy heart, and he proposes a marriage of convenience to keep her safe from his mother's killer machinations. They have to sell a lie of whirlwind love to the press and scheme to protect themselves from the wrath of their mothers.

I wasn't really blown away by Neon Gods, the first in the series. I didn't really connect with Hades or Persephone or the threat of war with Zeus. But here, I think the danger is more immediate: Psyche's life is on the line, and Eros is prepared to throw himself in front of any bullet or knife headed her way. Psyche is a force of her own, having spent years curating her public image so she can wield as deftly as Eros can more lethal measure. Their teamwork -- not to mention topnotch banter -- is amazing and super compelling. I couldn't put it down and finished this in less than a day.

The chemistry is also scorching. Psyche has a hard time separating emotions from physical connection (same girl, same) and doesn't want to give into the frankly boiling heat between her and Eros, but it's pretty much unstoppable. Eros is also a man who likes to go down on his woman, and we love to see it and his sexy use of the mirrors in his penthouse. His desire for Psyche is practically read to boil over at any moment, and when it does, their sex is amazing and super fulfilling narratively too.

The resolution happens quickly at the end like in Neon Gods, but I thought this one was better and less anti-climactic, since there's more behind the method, and it's a more collaborative takedown.

I seriously loved this, and the plus-sized rep was great. There's not a ton of talk about how Psyche has had to deal with being fat in a society that values thinness, but there's enough to know she's empowered and won't take shit from anyone about her size. Eros is also worshipful of her body and there's no cheesy "your fat is beautiful" bullshit; he just flat out loves her body, no caveats.

Can't wait to read the next one and all the ones after!

I loved it! It was amazing I couldn't imagine Psyche as anything else! She's perfect! Eros is someone I just fell in love with. I love them. They're just perfect to me and I feel like their story was open to another perspective and I would want to revisit over and over again. I highly recommend!

There is nothing I love more than the "I hate everyone but you" trope and Katee Robert delivers that in spades with Eros and Psyche. "The woman showed me kindness once and then I essentially followed her home like a feral cat and forced her to marry me." This book brings us further into the dark world that is Olympus and I cannot get enough. Eros is more than Aphrodite's knife and Psyche is more than the influencer mask she wears for her thousands of followers. I love the way we see these characters slowly let down their walls for each other, knowing that in their world trust weighs more than love. This book had a little more sweet than spice than I am used to from Katee Robert, but I loved it all the same.

Another one where Katee Robert knocked it out of the park! Man, this series made me go back and pick up a lot of her backlist lol I’m about half way through the Wicked Villains series too, so seeing that this is also somehow connected?! So glad I waited to read this. Anywho, yeah as you can see, I adored this lol

This time the re-telling was Pschye and Eros. Psyche knew she’d have to answer to Aphrodite, but she never expected her to be so cruel that she makes him be the thing that kills her. And Eros has no idea that when he tries to kill her he can’t bring himself to do it. He’s drawn to her with no idea why. So he does the only thing he can think to do. Keep her safe. Aphrodite isn’t too happy with this decision and neither is Psyche. But as they try to thwart Aphrodite, they begin to see each other in a completely different light.

I wasn’t as familiar with their story as I was with Hades and Persephone, so I did what any librarian would do… I researched it. (Well I Googled it but still) I was able to fill in the parts that I was missing before I read it. And it was cool again to find the parts of this book that came from the original story.

The romance was so cute. I LOVED watching them go from hating each other to falling for each other. And I also loved that it wasn’t your typical enemies to lovers romance. He was about to kill her and they still made it work! The pacing of their relationship did seem to be a little fast tho. And I thought it was weird that the way he was hopping from bed to bed in the previous book and the other one he definitely wasn’t like that in this book. He did mention that he had been with a lot of people, but it was like he was a different person. Maybe he was just really trying to save her life, Idk. But it was just weird to me.

Another thing I liked about this was the fact that it had more plot this time lol In other words, there was less heat, but there is still some HEAT. Don’t get it twisted, the way the scenes were, was still all of Katee Robert’s words. The only thing that’s less is the amount of scenes lol And it wasn’t distasteful. (Despite the reviews that are saying it is.) If you look at some of the quotes that are floating around, he worshipped her. Like while everyone was fat shaming her and she had bodily issues against herself, he worshipped her and I loved that. And I think that deserved to be talked about.

The world-building still wasn’t there in this one either tho. BUT, there was a map in it! (I also had an e-ARC so I was able to see it!) So that was pretty cool to see where everything was divided and whose territory was where. I even consulted the map a couple times while reading to get a clear picture of both this series and her other.

And lastly, I LOVED that Poseidon was included in this one. (Even if he was entirely unhelpful lolol) I actually just mentioned something about a Poseidon romance or re-telling or something on my blog. I really hope she picks up something that has him in sometime. Especially since there’s going to be more books in the series. But I heard that #4 is with Apollo, so we’ll see!

This book is my favorite of the series. I really enjoyed reading this book. From the steam to the romance to the small bit of action at the end. It’s definitely not part of the sophomore slump of a series. This one lived up to the one before it and made it hard to wait for the next one to come out. (I’ve already requested Wicked Beauty from Edelweiss smh lol)

4.5⭐
🔥 HOT SERIES ALERT! 🔥
Oh. My. I received an eARC of Electric Idol (thank you @netgalley and @sourcebookscasa!), and since this is book #2 in the Dark Olympus series, I decided to read book #1 - Neon Gods - first. And wow. I’m hooked. (Note: This is #eroticromance)

Neon Gods was a modern retelling of Persephone/Hades, and I probably favor it a teensy bit more than Electric Idol (mostly because… 🔥Hades🖤… omg). In Electric Idol, we get glimpses into the ongoing lives of Persephone and Hades, but the main focus of book #2 is the modern retelling of Psyche/Eros.

In Electric Idol, Eros’ mother, Aphrodite, is vain and ruthless, and has her son “take care of” any threats to her, real or imagined. Psyche, one of the daughters of Aphrodite’s nemesis Demeter, becomes Aphrodite’s next target for Eros. While Eros and Psyche have been in each other’s social circles for much of their lives, when Eros gets to know Psyche, he can’t bring himself to follow his mother’s wishes. Both Psyche and Eros are accustomed to playing the political games in Olympus, and this leads to an exciting, sexy, and even romantic plot to keep Psyche (and others!) safe. 💘

I love the body-positivity represented through Psyche’s character; it was done tastefully and realistically (how hurtful trolls can be, and how Psyche has built up her armor against them). I also love the growth that Eros’ character goes through; we are party to his thoughts, feelings (wait, he has those?!?), and motivations in his journey toward the happiness he doesn’t think he deserves. 💞

Electric Idol was released on 1/18/2022. I CANNOT WAIT for book #3, and I have a hopeful guess of whose stories we’ll follow next. 🤞🏻 @katee_robert, you have a new Dark Olympus fan in me, and I’m also looking forward to reading your other books!

I really enjoyed this book and finished it in 2 days. I felt that the main characters could have been fleshed out a little bit more. I wish that we spent more time seeing and exploring the darkness described in Eros instead of just being told about it, but that being said, I still really enjoyed the book. I felt that it was a good continuation from the first book and I liked that we were able to see different side characters. I find it really interesting seeing how each member of Olympus knows each other and all the secrets that end up floating around. People who like the 'fake dating or fake marriage' trope will not be dissapointed in this book as well, since you can really feel the anguish and the angst coming from the characters as they spend more time together. Another aspect that made me love this book is that Psyche is a plus sized woman. I loved how Roberts added this into the story and added a focus on body positivity especially in a world with social media. I thought this was done beautifully! Also the smut was so good! Overall, this was a solid read and I am excited for the next one!

Oh my gods, did Katee Robert just give me my newest obsession? The answer is Hell Yes!

I have always been a devout Hade and Persephone fanatic, and yet Robert just convinced me to love Eros and Psyche more. I never thought I would see the day, but here I am saying this couple has just outranked Hades and Persephone for me. Like they could step on me and I would probably be the happiest person ever.

There were just so many layers to this book. I mean you get amazing plus size rep, a complex look at family dynamics, political intrigue, and of course a steamy enemies to lovers couple. I have to commend Katee Robert on writing an amazing plus size MC who doesn't let her size define her and shows us all how to be confident in our own skin. I love that Robert gave us an icon to look to, and shows everyone that big girls are sexy too. Oh and of course the girl attracts the adonis like creature that is Eros. He wasn't even my type and I found myself falling for him at every point in this book.

Oh and don't even get me on the complexity of both the power plays and family dynamics in this book. Not only do we see Demeter playing more power games to cement her family in the Olympus world, but you now learn about Aphrodite and how she plays the game. Both of which use their family in many ways to gain power, but at least one of them actually cares about her family. Overall the whole thing was handled amazingly, and lead to us seeing two people finding comfort in each other and learning to love.

And of course there was some amazing SPICE, that added a little extra to love in this story...the mirrors anyone?

Electric Idol was a book that I couldn’t put down; I finished it in two days. I love series that exist within the same universe but center in different couples / pairings — this delivered on that front. Retellings of popular stories from mythology are always so fun, especially modern ones, and Katee Roberts interpretations are SO FUN to read.

Things I loved: plus-size heroine, marriage of convenience, and the dynamic of “I’m supposed to kill you, but now I kind of like you? What now?” that was delivered so well.

There were points where the plot felt a little fast paced, and although we learned more about the world this weird exists in I still find myself having so many questions about what’s to come for Olympus.

Overall, highly recommend for a romance lover as well as anyone who has a love for Greek mythology!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and I am happy to give my honest opinion.

Katee Robert is OG, as we all know, and I loved the first book in this series so I was hyped to get Electric Idol. This is a marriage of convenience/fake relationship trope set in the really cool world of Olympus.

Psyche is Demeter's daughter. Demeter is one of the Thirteen, positions that rule Olympus and keep it running. Psyche isn't exactly happy to be in Olympus but has spent the last several years creating her public persona while her mom is in a public position. Her sister Persephone got out of an arranged marriage with Zeus in the prior book by marrying Hades and Demeter has the same plans for Psyche. Unfortunately, this makes Aphrodite mad and, being unhinged, she takes a hit out on Psyche, just to hurt Demeter where it counts.

Eros is Aphrodite's son and her enforcer. He takes care of anyone who threatens his mom's empire but he's over it. She tells him she wants Psyche's heart on a platter and instead he decides to marry her. It becomes a marriage of convenience/fake relationship while trying to get Aphrodite off of their back.

I loved Eros. He definitely had trauma over his mom's machinations but he was protective and caring without being a jerk. Psyche was smart and a lot like her mother in moving puzzle pieces around. I liked them together but the pacing of this book was off a bit for me. The middle, after the wedding, was too much of "will they, won't they?" and I started to get bored. I also don't understand why Psyche wouldn't bring her mom into the fold to help stop Aphrodite.

I'm presuming the next book will be Calisto and Zeus which sounds fun. I can't wait to keep reading from this author.

I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest and fair review.

I read the first book in the Dark Olympus series and enjoyed it so I decided to try the next book in the series too. This was an interesting read - it was definitely steamy but I wouldn't say that I'd classify it in erotic romance. It just felt like a really steam contemporary romance to me. I love that the characters in this series are all based on characters from mythology and that it loosely follows along with some of the old stories while bringing a modern spin to it. The dichotomy between old and new is so engaging. This book was especially intriguing to me as there were echoes of traditional fairy tale stories as well - Aphrodite telling Eros to "bring me her heart" like in Snow White and also Beauty and the Beast is even referenced in the book. This book also spoke to a narrative around body positivity in a number of places and I loved it. I especially loved that when we're getting Eros' point of view he never had thoughts that were like "oh well she's chubby but I like chubby" - his thoughts were just straight about how beautiful Psyche was with no qualifiers. I thought this was a great book and I'd definitely recommend it.
