I had a great time reading the second Isabel Puddles book. This senior sleuth is always determined to find the truth, and reading a book featuring a sassy sleuth is one of my favorite past times.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

More please! This was such a breath of fresh air! A protagonist who isn't 20 something, young, beautiful, etc. Senior sleuths are just so much fun and relatable. I am truly eagerly looking forward to the next book!

Isabel is living life on her terms as summer stirs the peaceful shores of Lake Michigan. Only slowing down to meet her oldest friend for daily coffee, the newly licensed PI has found herself chipping away at the college degree she never completed—and, to her surprise, eagerly awaiting letters from her pen pal, an admired British mystery writer. But when her latest client turns out to be an extravagant recluse who’s rich both in secrets and money, Isabel becomes embroiled in the strange world of Rust Belt royalty and the Memorial Day Weekend disappearance of a handsome young heir. Fun location in a state I know well.
This is the second in this series and a really fun read. You will like Isabel. This is cozy mystery writing at its best and I hope there are many more in this series. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

Isabel Puddles Investigates by M.V. Byrne is a marvelous entry into the senior sleuth cozy mystery genre. This second entry in the Mitten State Mystery Series, has Isabel in her cottage in Poplar Bluff on Gull Lake in Michigan anticipating the on-slot of summer tourists and the traffic and problems they bring. Already, one passenger has disappeared from the Badger, a 400 foot car carrier transporting visitors from Wisconsin to Michigan. The story provides much history of Isabel’s family on the island and all the year-round residents who are either related to each other or went to school together since kindergarten. Center to the novel is the Land’s End restaurant where the locals and the tourists meet. Isabel and her close friend, Frances, have a standing 8:00 AM breakfast there to chat about local gossip and inspect the crowds. Isabel who is finishing her degree in criminal justice is also a private investigator. So sets the stage for Isabel to get involved in the latest local mystery involving the wealthy Bachmeier family who has made its vast fortune in the beer industry. When Isabel is not investigating, she is busy cooking, knitting, canning pickles, and working part-time at her cousin’s hardware store.

Byrne has created a fun mystery full of local color and personalities. Seems that everyone has an opinion to discuss over hot breakfast coffee or an evening box of wine. Recommended for fans of the genre and readers wanting a good cozy mystery.

Isabel Puddles Investigates the second Mitten State Mystery is a little quirky like the characters in this charming cozy. M.V. Byrne putts their established talents on display in this knock out punch of a story.

Isabel Puddles has hung out her PI shingle and is living life on her own terms these days. When she takes on a new client, Isabel has to not only look for the woman’s missing relatives, she has to figure what to believe when she hears rumors about the woman. It leave Isabel searching for answers on several fronts. It also leaves Isabel in the position of becoming the next missing person tied to her client. But nothing will stop Isabel from pursuing the answers and finding out what happened to the missing relatives.

Who doesn’t want to be like Isabel Puddles when they grow up? Living life on your own terms, making up for missed opportunities and most of all helping people? This is a great series and the second installment was even better than the first! I’ll be waiting for the next adventures with Isabel Puddles with great anticipation.

The Return Of The Utterly Delightful Isabel Puddles.....
Isabel loves to read murder mysteries but she did not anticipate finding herself in the middle of one and soon realises that the reality is way more dangerous than the ones she finds between the pages of a book. Now that she is a newly licensed P.I. she is enjoying life in her own way but a new client brings more danger and excitement than Isabel could have anticipated in this hugely entertaining second outing. With a likeable protagonist in Isabel and a colourful cast of supporting characters this is another enjoyable read and a worthy addition to what is hopefully to be a long running series featuring the utterly delightful Isabel Puddles.

This second book in the Isabel Puddles series is welcome. Although Isabel has put some of her side jobs aside, she keeps busy with her friends and neighbors AND going back to college and getter her private investigators license. Because she is well-known in her home town as the one who solved a previous mystery, she is contacted by a member of the most reclusive inhabitant's staff to solve a family mystery.. A great homage to the upper mid-west, quirky small-towns and their characters. The only thing that could improve these books is to include the pattern Isabel uses to knit her scarves. . A quck, but most entertaining read..
