A short but impactful read that every teen should have access to. This is the book I wish i had had growing up. Intersectional from start to finish, this is how we should be introducing feminist theory to young folks. I highly recommend this.

I loved this book! It's so powerful for all people to read. The authors have really thought this book through and are real AF. I'm glad to see some honest truth.

I really wanted and expected to like this book. I thought I would think of it as the kind of book I wish I'd had as a teenager. The writing style just wasn't for me. It kind of felt like when adults try too hard to sound relatable to teenagers, and it just didn't work for me. I also felt like the book could've gone more in depth with some of the topics that were mentioned throughout the book or explained more behind the "why" for certain opinions from the authors. Teens typically want to know more and crave to be given reasons for why they should be thinking a certain way. I appreciate the idea behind this book, though, and I definitely hope there are others that do enjoy it and get more out of it than I did.

I would definitely include this book on my classroom bookshelf as a resource. I think a lot of young girls want to do something to change the world they live in, but they may not know where to start. Feminist AF is a book that will guide them and help them channel their concerns and passions. I think the feisty title will draw young people in as well.

I loved this book and will definitely be recommending it to my high school students when it comes out. I thought that it tackled a lot of very real and relevant topics with a fresh voice and I could see my girls especially really loving it. I loved the real stories and perspectives it gave as well as the extra resources it recommended if someone wanted to explore further.

I loved this, and I can't wait to make it available to students. It provides meaningful guidance around the most pressing issues that young women of all backgrounds (especially girls of color) face. I was personally moved to see that the authors address disabled young girls AND chronically ill girls, as opposed to lumping us together.

For me this is hard to rate. I think the ARC may have been the issue and the flow may be corrected with beta reads. I like that the women were all PhD holding women . It felt very look how amazing we are. The writing however was underwhelming because it felt like people talking at the salon and i didnt get the we are women hear us roar vibe i was expecting.

Feminist AF is truly intersectional, and is centered on the experiences of BIPOC women and teen girls. The authors are the founders of the Crunk Feminist Collective, and use their shared life experiences to be unapologetically joyful in celebrating their culture and naming the oppression that comes with being Black or Brown. I quickly realized that their audience was not for me, a white, able-bodied, middle-class, cis-het woman of privilege, but I stayed for the positivity and the activism. This is not to say this book was full of platitudes and kumbayah - this book hit the issues straight on and unblinkingly called out the issues.

I'd recommend this book for all teen girls who are growing up and trying to make true change, not just performative feminism.

3.5/5

This book is so outstanding, I need it on my bookshelf! It is such an inclusive read, is empowering for young readers, and the best part is that it gives the reader the language to advocate for themselves and others. This book should be in every middle and high school classroom.

Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of Feminist AF in exchange for an honest review.

This was so well done! The narration is really engaging and approachable for a teenage audience and does a really good job hyping up the reader about feminist issues and embracing all facets of themselves. This is wonderfully intersectional and makes sure all types of girls are represented and included.

This feels like the type of book that could go alongside "The Care and Keeping of You" as an important title every young girl and woman should read. There are sections which would be most applicable and useful for young Black and Brown women, such as how to navigate colorism, but it covers a large variety of feminist topics through an intersectional lens that everyone could benefit from reading. There are sections discussing struggles with family and friends, navigating sexuality and gender, confidence, and more. I appreciated the continued use of inclusive and nonjudgmental language and how it encourages readers to explore and set boundaries for themselves. In my experience, a lot of the feminist topics are things I and my friends first encountered in college but could have benefited from learning sooner. Overall, it is an engaging, entertaining, and informative read that I wish I'd had when I was younger.

really needed this book atm. most of the other feminist books i have read only acknowledged cisgender women. this book acknowledged trans women, non binary folks, disabled people, women of color, queer people, etc. it was truly inspiring

I felt like this was such an open and honest guide to girls to just be themselves! If you want to rally and holler and be loud or if you want to be a feminist in more quiet ways you can be both. You can make a difference either way. I liked this guide and I think anyone can find good advice within. I'm excited to see the artwork in the final version too.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
