DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN is the second book in Cynthia Eden’s “Trouble for Hire” series. Odin Shaw, ex-Special Forces operative, is a tall hunk of Thor-like deliciousness. He’s minding his own business when Maisey Bright wants to hire the PI to investigate her suspicious neighbor (and co-worker). Classic Hitchcock setup. Are Maisey’s suspicions well-founded, or is she a little nutty, with an over-active imagination from watching too many true crime shows? That’s what Odin tries to figure out. Either way, he is smitten. Although this is part of a series, DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN works well as a standalone novel.

There’s more going on in DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN then just Maisey’s suspicions about her neighbor. There are several unnerving things that have been happening in the neighborhood and the reader, along with this couple, must figure out if anything or everything is connected. Maisey’s friend went missing and that’s a big part of what’s driving her to investigate. I like how Odin isn’t what you’d expect. He’s ridiculously hot, but he has a few insecurities that he tries not to let bother him. In stories like this, it wouldn’t be uncommon for the big bad PI hero to humor the heroine but not take her seriously initially. With Odin, he might not believe that Maisey’s neighbor is Jack the Ripper, but he can quickly see that something isn’t right, and he respects her as his client, and later as the woman he comes to care deeply for. This is one of my favorite books in this series so far. There are oodles of scenes that have you fearing for the fate of the characters. Cynthia Eden is one of the best at creating suspense and that moment when the everyday becomes suddenly chilling. Mixed in with that sense of foreboding and anticipatory horror, is a cute love story. Maisey may have stumbled into something bigger than she ever imagined, but finding love was a pleasant surprise. I found the back-and-forth between Maisey and Odin charming. Cynthia Eden always manages to create great chemistry between her characters that contribute to the love scenes being so steamy.

DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN has it all – a charming love story with plenty of passion, a detective story, and an adrenaline high. The various twists and turns added to the entertainment without making the story seem ridiculous. I hope to read about Odin’s friend Jinx, and secondary character and wildcard Ramsey in future books.

Gotta love this series. When War leaves town on his honeymoon, he leaves his best friend and fellow PI in charge of the office. When a gorgeous women comes in claiming her neighbor is a serial killer. Odin can’t decide whether to believe her or not. Maisey has spent months gathering proof that her neighbor is a serial killer but no one believes her. They think she’s just another pretty face. She decides to hire a PI. The ones she read about that just solved a serial killer murder. Can she convince them?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN is the second instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult TROUBLE FOR HIRE romantic, suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for, or are connected to Trouble For Hire private investigators. This is former ex-Special Forces solider Odin Shaw, and college history teacher/ crime podcaster Maisey Bright’s story line. DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Odin and Maisey DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN follows the search for a possible killer. Maisey Bright believes her next door neighbor Clay Prescott is a serial killer, and one of the victims may be her friend from college, a young woman missing for over a month. Having amassed a large amount of information and clues including the identity of three missing women all connected to her neighbor Clay, Maisey seeks out private investigators Trouble For Hire, in an effort to locate her missing friend. Enter ex-Special Forces soldier turned PI Odin Shaw. What ensues is the search for a killer and the missing women, and the potential fall-out as Maisey becomes the target of a twisted mind.

Odin Shaw knows death and destruction first hand but Maisey Bright is not what he expected when he partnered with his friend Warren Channing. With War on his honeymoon, Odin is reluctant to take Maisey’s case as everything is currently circumstantial evidence from the mind of a wanna-be detective with her own crime podcast but the further Odin is pulled into Maisey’s web, the more he is convinced that there is definitely a ring of truth to Maisey’s story. Maisey Bright is certain her neighbor and psychology professor Clay Prescott is a killer but when all of her information and her laptop go missing, Maisey has no proof, and worries that Odin will drop the case, and never look back.

The relationship between Maisey and Odin beings as a contracted assignment but quickly turns into something more. Odin knows to get involved with a client may divert his attention from the job at hand but something about Maisey pulls Odin in the frenetic pace that is her life, a life that quickly spirals out of control. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Maisey’s neighbor Professor Clay Prescott, bar owner Ramsey, as well as the return of ex-Special Forces soldier and Odin’s friend Jinx, and IT specialist Ali Carter. Ali and Jinx’s story is next in Jinx, You’re It.

DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN is a story of secrets, lies, betrayal and obsession. The premise is engaging and intriguing with a twist that comes out of left field- a little bit of a red herring. There are a few humorous moments that warrant a giggle or two. The romance is seductive; the characters are colorful and energetic but saying that Maisey Bright is often a little TSTL, placing herself in the direct line of fire, refusing to remain out of the direct line of fire.

I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it. Maisey Bright needs help proving that her neighbor is a serial killer and hires Private Investigator Odin Shaw to help her. Odin thinks Maisey's gorgeous but she has an overactive imagination. When he decides to check the neighbor out to humor her, he realizes that someone is definitely targeting her. Their relationship progresses as they work together to solve the mystery of her missing friend and why someone would do anything to stop them. Great romantic suspense!

Odin is not your normal PI, nor is Maisey as meek as she may appear! Wow, this second standalone in the Trouble for Hire Series by Ms. Eden is another winning combination of suspense and romance. I loved the first book in this series and after meeting Odin in that book I had a feeling he would be one intense alpha and I was right. These military men are extremely protective and gruff on the outside but big marshmallows on the inside. I loved every minute of Odin and Maisey's journey. Lots of humor, steamy chemistry and mystery. We get introduced to Jinx in this second book and I have a feeling his story is going to be just as exciting, especially considering some of the explosive twists and turns we experienced in this one. Another top-rate romantic suspense! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.

What a fun read! Maisey saw the news report of a PI firm that solved a serial killer case so after not getting anywhere with the police, she shows up as Odin is covering for War who is on his honeymoon. War is from the first book in the series and it is not necessary to read that book (I haven't) to enjoy this book! There is mention of War and the previous case but it really doesn't play into this book that much. We also meet Jinx in this book and after seeing him, I can't wait for his book - sounds like there is a story there with Ali and wow - Ram is going to be part of the story.

There is going to be some twists and turns during their investigation and maybe a bit of misdirection until we find out who is the real killer. Throw in a few surprising revelations and you have a book that you cannot put down! I stayed up way to late into the night when I should be in bed because I had to get to the end and find out "whodunit" and it was worth it!

Really, really can't wait for Jinx's story and will probably go back and read the first book in the series!

When it comes to the PI firm, Trouble for Hire, it seems that serial killers are lurking around every corner! Maisey Bright believes that her neighbor is a killer. Some things about him are just not adding up, and with the way women disappear around him, including her close friend, she needs him caught and for justice to be served. Realizing she can't do it by herself, she hires her own personal PI to get the job done.

Odin Shaw was an ex-military, PI extraordinare. After making headlines over their last case, his firm was known to catch some serious bad guys. Upon meeting Maisey, he thinks she's way off base with her assumptions, but she's too darn cute to turn away. Then he finds the trail of clues and quickly realizes that he will do anything to protect 'his girl'.

I loved how quickly these two characters connected on an emotional level. It was intense and the suspenseful events only made their bond stronger. I'm here at the end of the book and I want more. I still have to read War's book, which started it all, and Jinx's book is next, which promises to be hilarious, passionate and fierce. I do hope that there will be a book for Ramsay. I'd love to see if his lost love will ever remember him and how much he meant to her.

Maisey needs a PI, so she goes to hire one and gets Odin. Love this guy! No filters on what he says, and we get introduced to Ramsey and Jinx in this one too. Fast paced as they chase after a killer or two. Good story, characters and writing. Everything I expect from a wonderful writer. Highly recommend this book and author and series (can be read alone).

A super fun, sexy and suspenseful romp in Cynthia Eden's second Trouble For Hire novel! Odin is the big, sexy, gruff, don't-always-say-the-right-thing-or-is-even-real-talkative hero that will make a reader drop her panties and pant while Maisey is the kind of heroine any girl would love to have as a best friend. She is smart, sweet, bold and awesome and I thought she really was a terrific fit for Odin.

I was so very happy with Don't Play With Odin. The book had a lot of humor, smoking hot chemistry and a plot that keeps you flipping the pages to the very end. There is danger, hot sex, good friends and a mystery that needs to be solved. I LOVED IT and honestly, it had me craving more. The book flowed so perfectly and I really liked that there was a lot of action and sexy times, but moments that made me laugh out loud. This new series is turning out to be a real treat!

Odin is everything you want in a book boyfriend. Alpha all the way and a little awkward to boot. Maisey is funny, determined, and the way they interact is so fun to read. I don't know which one is more stubborn. The chemistry is off the charts, the romance sweet, and the sex steamy. The mystery is action packed and kept me guessing until the reveal. Jinx is up next and I can't wait for his book. Fingers crossed Ramsey will be coming soon as well because he's an intriguing character.

This is another great read in this latest series from Cynthia not only is it a great suspense story but it is also one of the sweetest romances I have read in a while

Odin Shaw was convinced he was going to be on the battlefield for most of his life it didn't quite work out like that and now he is working for his friend at his security company that means he has to deal with people and he isn't to good at that. Maisey bright wanders into the office wanting to prove her neighbour is a serial killer after the police won't believe So begins a hilarious relationship between two people who are perfect for one another that is if Odin can keep Maisey alive as she constantly throws herself into danger

Awesome!

I loved Maisey’s quirkiness and Odin’s ‘foot in mouth’ issues. They fit together and make an amazing team solving the mystery.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy.

Don't Play With Odin is the second Trouble for Hire book by Cynthia Eden. I liked it more than the first since there is no revenge between the major characters going on in this story. That is not to say that there are no feelings such as revenge going on it is just not between Odin Shaw or Maisey Bright. This easy to read suspenseful romance has a vivacious woman and a former military now PI man who hit it off at the beginning.

A wonderful page-turner that kept me reading as Odin went from doubter to believer in the suspicious neighbor. Then just when you think it is all solved a major twist happens in this unpredictable story. I never saw that coming so it took my breath away for a second or two.

Hot chemistry between Odin and Maisey but it didn’t take away from the danger, action or suspense of the plot. Definitely an entertaining romance though.

4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Holy PI Heaven!!
Let me tell you this book was so good I could not put it down.
Oden Shaw was a extreme alpha male, a man of few works but quite to jump into action as soon as Maisey was in trouble.

“Oh, that’s right.” Maisey rocked back on her heels. “You like to be salty.” His eyes narrowed on her. “Are you teasing me?” “Sorry. Yes.

Maisey Bright is a spunky , outspoken and like a dog with a bone she will not give up.

“And that’s why I’m saying thank you. Odin is one of the good ones. He’s always had my back, and it’s nice to see he found a woman who will always have his.”

From the very start this couple just clicked together. The mystery will keep you guessing until he very end. With some shocking surprises.

Jinx is the perfect comic relief sided kick. I’m glad he’s getting his own book but I also want Whitney and Ramsey to get there own book.

Now. I rather like my face—the ladies do, too—so I am not in the mood to have it hammered in tonight.”

Jinx hauled her over the threshold. “Great service,” he said loudly, seemingly directing his words at the blond bouncer. “Fabulous band. I will leave a five-star review online for you, and I will definitely be back to—”

I can never get enough of this author!! Just sayin!!

No matter the series, books by Ms. Eden are must reads! She believes that her neighbor is a serial killer. She does a podcast about murders, has her own murder board and her father was a cop. Maisey Bright needs help to prove her suspicions and she hires newly licensed P. I. Odin Shaw. Odin doesn’t know what to think about Maisey - overzealous, gorgeous, naïve, too trusting…he is intrigued. He follows her to her home and finds that she has been robbed. The murder board is gone. When later he saves her from being kidnapped, he decides to protect her 24/7. Odin is a giant man, former military who has done and seen things that he will never forget, but Maisey feels safe with him. The clever dialog between them is often hilarious or passionate as they explore their sensual feelings. When danger finds Maisey once again, will Odin be able to reach her in time? A wonderfully romantic series with unique and fun characters. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

Maisey thought she was having a bad day when she met Odin. Actually turned out to be the best day. For Odin also.
