This is part of a murder mystery series. The characterisation in this book is done well. The book is engaging but a bit predictable. A good book

The characters were well-developed, and I found myself invested in their lives. The plot was well thought out and had enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat. I appreciated the attention to detail, and the author did a great job of creating a vivid world that was easy to picture in my mind.
The themes explored in the book were thought-provoking and gave me a lot to consider. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story with well-developed characters.
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with this book and would definitely read it again. It was a great addition to my reading collection, and I can't wait to see what else this author has in store.

THE BOX HILL KILLER by Biba Pearce.
Twelve years ago, Noah Palmer went for a bike ride and never came home. His body was found in the Box Hill woods, a five-pointed star carved in his chest. He is the fourth victim of a serial killer who has never been caught. Now, a young woman is involved in a shooting outside Harrods in central London. Her DNA shows a familial match to the Box Hill cold case.Detective Rob Miller leads the investigation. But there’s not much to go on. Just when he thinks he’s got a lead, the case is turned on its head.
A brilliant twisty read. Loved it. 5*.

Was unable to put this one down!

Her DNA shows a familial match to the Box Hill cold case.

Detective Rob Miller leads the investigation. But there’s not much to go on. Just when he thinks he’s got a lead, the case is turned on its head.

In order to solve this mystery, Rob’s going to have to go off-book, potentially putting his career — and already complicated love life — on the line.

Can he stop the Box Hill killer?

Non stop twists and turns in this book. Didn't see the ending coming. The grisly murders all look like one killer. So the twists and turns are unexpected. I thought the book was interesting. It got my attention early and pulled me in.

This is the first of the Rob Miller series that I have read, and I fear it will also be the last. Whilst this is a readable book and enjoyable in places, it is not particularly gripping, and neither did I find the reveal in any way suprising. However, what annoyed me most about the book was the author's overuse of certain phrases - my Kindle counted one phrase being used over thirty times. Additionally, there are minor slips in continuity from time to time - the most obvious of which, to me, was a character gaining a decade in age in the space of two pages. It is these little slips which, for me, detract from the enjoyment of the book and story.

It is by no means a bad book and I am sure fans of the writer will enjoy this latest instalment in the Rob Miller series, but regrettably I am not one of them.

The fact that I downloaded this on the 29th July and have taken until now to finish it says that I really wasn't grabbed by the book. It was an ok read with well intertwined threads, enough red herrings to keep one going although I did "suss" the murderer rather quickly. Rob Miller is developing into a nicer character than in book 1, the only other I've read in the series, and I'm so pleased that Yvette is in the past. I'd be happy to read others in the series as I feel that the story lines are intriguing. Thanks to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was one of those authors where I read book one in the series and decided to give them a second chance should I find something that sparked my interest. This book was it.

Sadly, I still feel like their work is still middle of the road. While it definitely has its moments when it draws the reader in, I never felt so invested in it that I HAD to keep reading. In fact, I am sad to say that I found this one easy to set aside in favor of doing other things (including dishes). And I get that police work is likely more like this than it is how we think it is (a lot of politics and foot-work and hitting brick walls).

However, part of the problem is that certain aspects felt predictable. Of course, the one person who they NEED to talk to is the one person they can't. Of course, just when it looks like a solution has come up something else is revealed that should have been shocking, but wasn't. I will say there were a couple of interesting twists woven in, but I don't feel like they were enough to really save it.

Of course, it's possible that my enjoyment of this was hindered considering I have seemed to have missed a lot between the first book and this one, and I will also say that I enjoyed this one enough that I am going to go back and read the other two to see if my opinion of this author/this series changes.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

I put off doing this review, as I just wasn't sure what I wanted to say. I wouldn't describe this book as "absolutely gripping" or "heart stopping:, by any means, but it was interesting. . I've also read that the killer came as a "total shock". Wrong! It wasn't that hard to figure out. While I can't rave about this story, I didn't dislike it, either. Being the first time I've read about Detective Rob Miller, I might look into some of the earlier books.

Having loved books 1 and 2 of the series (book 3 I found hard to get into) I was willing to give the fourth book a try. and wasn't disappointed - it's twisty and keeps the reader interested throughout. I wish Rob wouldn't constantly "bark" orders though!

A cold case of the murder of 4 men who were left with the same 5 pointed star carved into their chests is re-opened when a young girl is caught up in a robbery whose DNA is a partial match to saliva found on one of the victims. The race is on to find the killer. The story is twisty and kept me on the edge of my seat! It was also nice to catch up with Rob's pregnant girlfriend Jo and Trigger the dog. Would highly recommend.

This is the 4th in Biba Pearce's DI Rob Miller series, of which I have only read the first, The Thames Path Killer, in this latest offering Miller finds himself hampered by those above him. An old cold case murder from 12 years ago is re-opened when a teenager, Rachel, finds herself caught in a robbery, and her DNA is found to be that found on the body of Noah Palmer who disappeared. His body was later discovered in the woods, with a pentagram etched on his chest, the 4th victim of a serial killer. Miller finds him on a difficult investigation, then there is another murder of a female psychologist. This is a twisted read of secrets and more, which I think many crime readers are likely to enjoy. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

When I saw this title pop up, I didn't hesitate for a moment, I had to read this book!

I used to live in the Surrey Hills, and know Box Hill and the surrounding area like the back of my hand.

Four men are found murdered near Box Hill in the Surrey Hills, their bodies placed like Vitruvian man, and all of the victims had a pentagram engraved into their chests. The case remains unsolved until…
.
12 years later, - Rachel - who by a freak accident witnesses a robbery on a jewelry store, is arrested as a suspects when she ran out of the shop.
When she donates her DNA, she is strangely linked to one of the victims of the Box Hill murders...

A brilliantly written police procedural thriller, I didn't know this was #4 in the series with DSCI Miller - I haven't read the previous books, but hope to do so soon. I think they can be read as a stand alone. I am fan. Very good. Hope to read more by this author!

Highly recommended!! 4 stars
I would like to thank the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this ARC.

I’ve only recently discovered Biba Pearce’s excellent books and was thrilled to see that the latest addition was available to request. This series of books focuses on DCI Rob Miller and his team. This book opens with a young girl who is involved in a shooting outside Harrods. When she finds herself in police custody her DNA is sampled and linked through a familial link to a series of unsolved murders.
Just the right balance of investigation and the detectives private lives and keeps you guessing until the end too. I highly recommend this and all of Biba Pearce’s books.
