I couldn't finish this one. I was absolutely the wrong reader. What was I thinking trying to read an English war comic? Even a supernatural one with giant bats?
The bats didn't save the story from being surprisingly dull.
And I found the art style oppressive.
I recognize that it's a classic, enjoyed and appreciated by many. Just not me.

It was an interesting read. I loved the writing style and narration of the author. As far as the illustration is concerned it could have been better. Overall, a good experience. I give it 4 stars for the writing, narration and overall presentation.

Happy Reading

Bonkers WWI air comic, with the German fighter ace in his black triplane also in command of a fleet of giant plane-demolishing bats. It's a good job that like other bats they have excellent hearing, for he just shouts at them across the skies from his cockpit and they do what he demands – that is, when our plucky British heroes don't get the better of them, of course. Part of the appeal is seeing just how every episode pads the whole thing out, whether it be a daring rescue of downed pilots from No Man's Land, or a German trap of aerial dummies, or anything else. It's almost as if the comic was aware it was just a silly premise, and felt the need to wring the most air miles out of the concept as at all possible, even enlarging and enlarging the critters until they're far too big for the frame. Hearty, but very disposable, stuff.
