I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and Inkyard Press.

Oh, wow! This book was phenomenal! There are so many things I adored about it all!

So, the aliens are not that far off from humans which I thought was a really interesting take. Unfortunately, technology does not solve racism and classism.

I loved Joy and Felix as our two Kindred star-crossed lovers and just the idea of a Kindred to foster compassion but the potential to use that bond in horrifying ways.

I think this is a really good book, but it just wasn't a book for me. I was really intrigued by the premise, and I even really fell in love with the characters! But I just didn't fall in love with the book as a whole. The writing style wasn't for me personally, but I think there are a lot of people who are going to love it!

Even taking into account that this is a YA title, I found that it didn’t hold my interest. I found the mix of viewpoints and the flashbacks disruptive. Basically human aliens always throws off my suspension of disbelief and the unheralded introduction of present-day Earth into the story didn’t interest me. I also wasn’t sure I fully bought off on the fundamental emotional connection between Felix and Joy. The Kindred linking concept is interesting but the execution just wasn’t compelling. Grammar errors (broadcasted for broadcast) further threw me out of the rhythm. Others may enjoy the breezy pace but this wasn’t for me.

This was a really enjoyable read. I'll definitely be recommending it to teens (and adults) who enjoy sci fi, adventure and slow-burn romance. A great concept, well-executed.

A fun scifi story with a diverse cast. One main character is identified as "demi-ace" which is neat for representation but also a bit odd because there's not much else about it shown in the story and it's a very "Earth" label for someone who isn't human. And the other characters don't have specific labels. Some things in the plot are a little too easy, but forgivable in a YA novel.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for a review copy.

I was sold at diverse Sci-Fi but holy cow was I not expecting such a thrilling, captivating ride. There was romance, there was HEAT AND SPICE, and there was heartbreak, worldbuilding... there was everything you could want in a story, and then some.
