If I thought there was a chance that I would find out I came from a magical family, I would probably do one of those DNA tests. I mean, finding out you are from a family of witches sure would make holidays and family gatherings interesting.

Romy and Trace were fun, but there was also an undertone of serious to this one that made me feel engaged in the story. You felt for Trace and the things he is dealing with, and I think, it's something that we can all relate to...even if we aren't willing to go quite that far.

This was a fun read...even though those serious undertones were present.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

This book was so much fun to read! It’s a paranormal story but it’s primarily a love story and a story of a woman who finds herself and finds a new family. Totally delightful!

Romy lost her mother to cancer and has felt very lonely since then. She lives a bland life in a bland apartment and a bland job. Trying to please her mother, she has lived a life of rational thought instead of giving in to her creative urges and pursuing her artistic talent. Her mother put a nix on anything that was impulsive, creative, or emotional, even PDA’s! Romy loved her mother and always tried to live up to her expectations but always felt like she fell short. And now, she gave in to one of “her feelings”, she took a Who’s Your Daddy DNA test and found she had a father and half sisters.

When she went to meet her new unknown family, she learned that they are witches and that she herself may be a witch too. She ran from the house, calling them batshit crazy, completely denying all she was told. That scene in the book was priceless in spite of being a little sad. For Romy, it was a scary moment, for the reader it was wicked funny.

Trace lost his parents in a car accident when he was sixteen. The Candlers took him in and powered through with him through the years when he acted up, dealing with his grief. Now he’s working with the Candler construction company, but he’s turned away from his Coven and all his magic. He met Romy one night before she found out about the witchery. They had a great time and he was more attracted than he’s ever been, in spite of his determination not to ever get involved in a relationship. Finding her again with the Candlers and finding out she’s a witch like him, throws him in a loop, even more when he learns that Joe wants Trace to mentor Romy in learning to be a witch.

This story was hugely entertaining, funny and heart warm at the same time. We rejoice with Romy on finding a new family even if they’re witches. We delight in the witch classes and all her questions, like magic wands, tweaking her nose, etc. I loved the world of magic that the author created, with the archmage, the Board of Elders and their rules. When Romy had her first meeting with the Board of Elders and protested at the inequality of women witches at the board, it was priceless. Romy brought a breath of fresh air to Trace’s life and made him fall again in love with magic. She also grew closer to her sisters and the huge family. She embraced her magic and used it wisely, like to replenish wine glasses and rescue kittens from trees.

It was truly entertaining and delightful, a lighthearted chronicle of a woman’s initiation into the life of a witch, finding love with a witch and finding a new family of witches to love. No wonder the title is Big Witch Energy, there was a lot of love to power all that magic!

I will read anything Kelly Jamieson writes so it was a no brainer to request this, even if it isn't my usual kind of read. Romy and Trace were perfection, I loved them and this story. I highly recommend it even if you are hesitant to try a paranormal romance.

I'm a big fan of Kelly Jamieson - and I really enjoyed her first paranormal romance. Romy never knew her father and after her mother's death she took a DNA test in an attempt to locate her father or really any family on that side. It turns out - that family is filled with witches. Talk about a life-changing piece of information! Trace and Romy meet before she meets her family - on a blind date gone wrong (right?). They connect - and then have some forced proximity as Trace teaches Romy about her powers.

There is definitely a lot to like about this world and the characters. I liked Romy's sisters and family - and Trace is a really fascinating character too. But here's the thing - I didn't fully embrace this supernatural version of the world. I liked how it was introduced - but it didn't feel as immersive as some PR books do - and I felt like there was some information I was missing. Like - why do they call non-witches Ruckers? and how does the supernatural council really function? like there were a lot of rules I couldn't imagine them enforcing or knowing when they were broken. And the punishments? Seemed- well - odd. Like why would you turn some into a potato for sharing information about their world? Why not just take away their memories. If things like time-travel is possible why not that? I guess I was left with more questions than answers - and that took away somewhat for me.

I also got realllllly frustrated with both Trace and Romy at times. Tension is critical to romance - but the tension here just felt off balance.

I am still looking forward to reading more about this world and its players!

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

"Ha. Sure. Let's bet. How about...when Donatello wins, I get a kiss."
What the hell am I doing? I think I'm...having fun.
She laughs. "From me? Or from the turtle?"

Trace finds himself on a blind date, under duress, that turns out pretty awesome. And really, she's not his date, but that turned out pretty good, too!

Romy was having a crap day. Swinging into the bar to drown her sorrows worked out pretty well for her. She shoves herself into a fake blind date with a handsome and fun guy. Who knew spontaneous could be so fun.

Romy's life shifts in a BIG way. Thanks to a little fun DNA test, she finds her long lost father. Come to find out, there is a lot she doesn't know about her dad and his family. Things turn a bit "magical". Romy has to wrap her head around all of these changes. Learning that things she thought were completely impossible are actually real.

Trace didn't expect to run into Romy again. Not that he minds, that's for sure. But things are getting very intertwined, and it may be more than he can handle

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! I'm going to say, I am typically not a "magic" or "paranormal" genre reader. I will try those books from authors I have already fallen in love with. That is the case here. I adore Kelly Jamieson's hockey series, so I figured I'd give this a try. I'm so glad I did!!! It's such a fun (and a bit steamy) read! I highly recommend!

This is the perfect comfy read for fall or Halloween romance, I really liked this cover. Both main characters have a ton of baggage to go through in this book but both have a ton of character growth throughout the book. This is also the first time I am reading this author and I have to say it’s an amazing introduction. All of the bestfriends and family members in this book made it even more amazing. There was such a sense of kinship amongst everyone, someone always has someone else to lean on.

Romy as a character was a little bit wild and reserved at the same time. Which I think deep down is kind of mostly everyone. She’s stuck in life and not really sure where to go, then gives in on a whim one night and meets Trace, that’s where everything just starts to unravel. Romy’s best friends are the best friends everyone wants. I liked that Romy was willing to step out of her comfort zone at some points but not willing to compromise who she was. She was very kind and willing to stand up for the small person.

Trace is a very family oriented character, he does everything for his family. He is denying his witchy background and his family supports him in that. The full first half of the book is Trace trying to put his feelings aside for Romy and put his family first and that just makes him so much more endearing to me. I loved that he always sticks up for his two younger sisters and basically fits in with everyone. This guy is unbelievably sweet, and so kind.

I wish we could’ve learned a little more about the magic system in this book, yes I know its a paranormal romance so it’s maybe to be more about the romance but if there are more to be set in this series could we have more about the magic? Either way I will be reading more from this author for sure!

Thank you to Kelly Jamieson for a copy in lieu of my honest review.

I’ve been super excited about all the paranormal romance featuring witches coming out lately and I had to jump on this one immediately because it sounded like a lot of fun. But somewhere along the way, I couldn’t buy into BIG WITCH ENERGY as much as I wanted to. Even though I think it had a lot of potential.

Our main characters meet on a blind date gone wrong for him. Trace, a witch, thinks he’s being set up on a blind date with another witch. Romy had a rough day after finding out she has a match from her ancestry test and may finally find out who her father is. So she ends up a bar and sees Trace obviously being stood up so she plays as if she’s the date and decides to just have a good time to forget about her very serious life problems.

I love reading stories about families and I was interested in the dynamic of Romy finding a whole family she didn’t know anything about and finding out she’s also a witch. Not quite as satisfying it could’ve been. And I think not as witchy as I wanted either.

And then we have the romance. While at first meet I thought Trace and Romy had potential together, as the story progresses I certainly hit some bumps in that road. Mainly with Trace’s attitude and sometimes just the way either was behaving. Just didn’t make sense and got on my nerves a bit.

I really wish BIG WITCH ENERGY would’ve delivered what I was hoping. The story and concept are so much fun, and the characters had potential. But for me, this needed a bit more fleshing out in the writing and flow and missed the mark.

This was a super cute paranormal romance that put a unique spin on a blind date mishap.

Romy has lived her life according to rules, either imposed by her mother (now deceased) or by herself (having grown up in such a fashion). Something weird pushes her to take a DNA test, trying to find her birth father, and that leads her into the wonderful world of witches. Sure, she doesn't get that revelation right away, but there's still a series of events that shake up her world.

Trace was set up on a blind date that ends up being crashed by Romy when his intended doesn't show up. They hit it off, only to find out that they are destined to cross paths beyond their one night romance. The whole witch thing gets in the way again when Trace, who has a big chip on his shoulder, ends up having to tutor Romy for her witch exams. I promise, this seems much more normal in the story than in summary!

The romance and sizzle here was pretty good. They fight their attraction for so long, I thought I was going to expire before they finally ignite. I don't think I've read anything else from this author, but as an intro book it has me hooked! There was some unique and entertaining world building thrown in to the romance that I really appreciated. Oh, and a HEA, of course!

4 🌟- fun, lighted hearted paranormal romance
I haven’t read a book by Kelly Jameison in some time and I thoroughly enjoyed her new venture into the paranormal. If you like her contemporary romances and are not normally a reader of paranormal this book is a must read. Big Witch Energy is a fun, light hearted romance that has an underlying plot for women’s equality using witches as a surrogate. I found this interesting because in literature and folklore female witches are known for their powers and in this world they don’t play a significant role in governance of the coven.
I really like Romy who is struggling with her newfound identity as a witch at the same time coming to terms with the past relationship with her deceased mother and how it affects her actions today.
Trace is a hero I think many will love. He struggles with guilt of his family’s death and has just about given up on magic since he can’t use it to bring back his family. He doesn’t realize the love that surrounds him from his adopted family. His tutoring of Romy sparks his love of both her and magic again.
I look forward to more books in this genre from Kelly.

3.5 stars--BIG WITCH ENERGY by Kelly Jamieson is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, erotic, paranormal, romance story line focusing on web designer/artist Romy Larson, and construction worker Trace Holcomb.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Romy and Trace) BIG WITCH ENERGY follows several months after the death of Romy’s mother, leaving our heroine without any extended family, that she knows of. So, with the advice of her friend Kesha and Hannah, Romy submits a DNA test to a website called ‘Who’s Your Daddy’, and the results will leave our heroine stunned and shocked. Meanwhile, attempting to go out of her comfort zone, Romy pretends to be on a blind date with a man she picks up at a bar, only to discover said man, will become part of the family she never knew she had-a family of magic wherein Romy is said to be a powerful witch. Enter witch Trace Holcomb, and the man with whom Romy will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Romy and Trace as Trace is assigned to teach Romy about her power, and the potential fall-out as Romy oversteps with the Board of Witches, and finds herself facing a possible future without magic.

Trace Holcomb doesn’t do relationships having lost everyone he loved years before. Having spent countless energy trying to do what cannot be done, Trace refuses to lose his heart to anyone else but having been asked to teach our story line heroine, Trace struggles with his attraction to a woman with whom he is falling in love. Romy Larson’s mother had always refused to talk about our heroine’s father. Struggling with no family or personal identity, Romy discovers that the family she always wanted is a little more than she could have ever imagined.

The relationship between Trace and Romy is one of immediate attraction but Trace battles between head and heart when he is asked to help Romy come into her powers. Believing the people he calls family will dislike his attraction to our story line heroine, Trace keeps their relationship a secret, breaking Romy’s heart in the process. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Romy’s best friends Hannah and Kesha; her father Joe Candler and his wife Cassie, half sisters Felice and Magan; Garrett, Julie, Archmage Ziggy Cox, and a copious quantity of extended family of magic and power.

BIG WITCH ENERGY is a story of family and loss, acceptance and love, magic and power. The premise is cute, imaginative and charming; the characters were quirky. But…saying all that, I felt that there was something missing; no palpable sexual attraction; and there was very little background information about our story line heroine.

BIG WITCH ENERGY is a standalone paranormal romance by Kelly Jamieson. At the center of this romcom is the loving and likable witchy Candler family. Romy Larson discovers what her late mother never told her, that her father was a witch and that she is half witch. Finding her biological father and a new family with half siblings is a huge deal, but fining out there is real magic out there, and that she has some untapped magical ability herself, blows Romy’s mind and ends up being a game changer. For witch and supernatural hottie, Trace Holcomb, the Candlers took him in when his family was killed in a tragic accident. His feelings about magic are complicated, and only made more so when he is required train Romy in the witchy arts. Throw in an intense natural attraction, and the situation becomes explosive. This story is told from alternating perspectives, so readers have a better understanding of the two main characters.

Whether by fate or coincidence, Romy and Trace meet right before Romy meets with the Candlers for the first time. They have the perfect meet-cute and the chemistry is on point. When Trace discovers who she is to the Candlers, his romantic dreams go up in smoke. He doesn’t want to risk ruining the relationship with his surrogate family if any relationship he may have with Romy were to go bad. Romy is frustrated but respects his wishes. There is no supervillain in BIG WITCH ENERGY. The conflict comes from Trace trying to come to terms with his past, accepting his magic as being part of who he is, and stop being afraid to latch onto the love that finds him. Likewise, Romy slowly works through her feelings of inferiority and accept herself for who she is. It’s not all drama and emotional baggage. Kelly Jamieson tells an entertaining story with a mix of humor, sexiness, and emotional heavy lifting.

BIG WITCH ENERGY is a fun mix of supernatural sensuality, great storytelling, and complex characters. Kelly Jamieson does a really good job of building the sexual tension between Romy and Tracy over the course of the book, making it more satisfying for the reader when they finally get together. I look forward to reading more paranormal romance by Kelly Jamieson in the future.

An entertaining story. I really liked how the premise was so different and original and a lot of LOL moments. After the death of her mother, Romy an only child decides to do DNA test to find her father. Trace lost hos parents and brother years ago and was "adopted " by the Candler family. Turns out, Mr. Candler is Romy"s father and there a more surprises yet in store. The story had a lot of good elements, family, loss, love,, secrets and equality.

When Kelly announced she tried something new, I knew that I had to read this book! I adore everything Kelly Jamieson writes and quickly devour it! This was no different. First off, I loved the cover and it gave me some serious Bewitched vibes. From page one I was invested in the characters. At first I thought they each were reserved and I was curious as to how their connection would be. I should not have feared. They each have their own dimensions and their past has really defined who they are as adults. They each have passions that don’t necessarily fit their outward appearances. Although this book has some paranormal elements, I will be honest, I totally forgot about it. While it is a theme woven throughout the story and plays a huge role, the book is really about Romy and Trace. They have stellar chemistry and easy banter. Like so many couples there are outside forces that they think are barriers, but others don’t necessarily see it that way. If you are in need of a heartwarming story of love, family and like a little quirkiness then this should be your next read!

I have been provided with a copy of Big Witch Energy by the author via NetGalley for an impartial review. I just really enjoyed this story and I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

The first read from a new to me author! I'm loving this new crop of authors I've been introduced to.

Romy recently lost her mother and doesn't have any other family - or so she thinks. She never knew anything about her birth father, her mother refused to speak about him. One DNA test later and she seems to have found some new relatives. They seem really eager to meet her - what could go wrong?

Well a blind date SNAFU leads to her having dinner and a non-date date with Trace. So colour her shocked when she finds out that Trace is the foster brother of her brand new siblings!

Romy was a brilliant mix of naive, and extroverted introvert LOL. She may start off shy and sweet but this girl had a wild side. Trace may think he doesn't want permanent but that man is lying to himself! he really doesn't want to lose the family he has found so is determined not to "go there" with Romy. Yeah, Romy and Trace's pheromones didn't get that memo LOL.

Romy’s best friends are like the definitive BFF - pushy but supportive, encouraging but annoying. I'm really hoping there will be more from them to come. The new witchy family Romy finds herself a part of just accepts her with open arms, if only everyone were so lucky to get that support and love from strangers.

Ahhh, I’m gushing over this!! It was quirky and fun, but with so much depth too. You just can’t help but fall in love with this! Romy and Trace were such a perfect match, they matched when they weren’t even meant to (you’ll see 😉) Their paths lead them back to each other time and again, and I was here for all of it!! I loved this book! My first time read by this author, but I definitely want more!

This was a nice read, that mixed sweet with some magic, a new witch learning her way and a hunky witch that's still mourning his past. I liked Romy, she's strong, she's trying to build herself up, and I definitely smiled and laughed a bit. Trace and Romy click, the pull was there and I liked getting to know more about him. All of the characters are likable, the story flows well, it's light, with a touch of feelings and has me curious about what is to come for the rest of the family and friends.
