It brings me a lot of joy as a reader that popularity of Scandinavian literature means more authors and works being translated into English. Though psychological thrillers are usually my first go to, I do enjoy literary fiction just as often. This book fell into my hands at a right time and was such an interesting, refreshing reading experience even though it deals with some heavy topics.

The Survivors is a slow burn family drama revolving around 3 brothers who have gathered at the family cottage to scatter their mother's ashes. The story centers around the events of one summer they spent at the same cottage as kids and events that shaped who they became as adults. It dives deep into exploration of what shapes family dynamics and subjectivity of memories.

I really enjoyed Alex Schulman's writing style. The way he chose to tell the present day story-line Memento style (in reverse). Beautiful, lyrical prose about complex characters, without villains or heroes, and all in a dream-like beautiful setting.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for gifting me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
