This is a cute little picture book about a ghost who doesn’t want to be scary. My three-year-old was delighted with the adorable illustrations as well as the sweet story. She will definitely be asking to read this many times over!

A book full of Ghosts! You can't get any better than this! I loved the story of Gilbert and how he just couldn't be scary and was exiled to the spooky crumbling tower. No spoilers but such a wonderful Autumn/Halloween read for kids of all ages. I love ghosts and the illustrations were awesome! I highly recommend it! Thanks to #netgalley for the advanced reader copy. I loved it!

A story that says it is ok to be different. Just because you are a ghost doesn't mean you have to be scary. Nice message for children.

A wonderful children's book covering what it means to carve your own path out of what people expect you to do. This ideal is portrayed to its young audience wonderfully, and I am curious as to what sequels Van Genechten has for Gilbert in the future.

This is a very cute book. I really appreciate the illustrations and how they set Gilbert apart from the other ghost by adding a pink hue to him. The transformation between the cold palette in the beginning and the warm one at the end is such a nice way to show the warmth bulit with the grown friendship.

I read this book with my three year old son and it was very cute. It would be a great book to have our for Halloween. Not only was it adorable, but also touched on topics such as acceptance and friendship.

This is a very cute story about embracing your differences and making your own happiness. When Gilbert can't or doesn't want to "scare" like the rest of the ghosts at school, he's exiled to an Abandoned Tower, only to find a friends and use his own resourcefulness to make a happy place for himself, and others.

That part of the story contains a wonderfully positive message that I can't wait for my students to hear. Unfortunately, though, the story felt incomplete and the ending confused me in its abruptness. What ever happened to the mean principal? What does Gilbert do with himself? How do the other ghosts know to visit him? These questions weren't answered and left me wondering.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Gilbert the Ghost is an adorable children's picture book about a ghost who doesn't quite fit in. Gilbert attends Ghost School, but he's sent away to figure out how to scare, but finds himself instead. I loved the adorable illustrations and the theme that it's okay to be different and that we should embrace our innate personalities instead of just trying to fit in.

Thank you Clavis Publishing and NetGalley for providing this ARC.

I fell in love with the cute cover, and the book turned out to be just as cute. Gilbert is a pink ghost who doesn’t like to yell ‘bhooo!’ and scare people. When he’s sent to the Abandoned Tower, he meets a little black cat and transforms the tower into a cozy and loving home.
Now, I have a special love for cute ghosts, and Gilbert is a sweetie pie. If you are looking for a scary story for kids, this isn’t one. It’s warm and cuddly. The illustrations are simple yet lively.
I enjoyed the book but wished it was a bit longer.
Thank you, NetGalley and Clavis Publishing, for the ARC.

This story was so adorable. I've noticed that even though I am not a fan of spooky stories, children's books with ghost theme tend to become my favourites. This was true for this book as well. It was a very simple and easy to read/follow story of Gilbert the ghost who's born a bit different than other ghosts. He meets Meow, the cat of the Abandoned Tower, and they become the best of friends

The artwork is adorable and it clearly depicts with its color changes where Gilbert is content. Warmer/lighter tones versus cooler/darker ones.

I had issues with the cover, I think the plain dark with the type of flowers just doesn't reflect the amazing artwork inside. I do love Gilbert but I would make it "less" dark and without the flowers, maybe an added Meow? The "Ghost School" sign on the castle sticks out from the style and color scheme of the artwork, and the texts on top of the page are sometimes hard to read on the dark background.

This was such a cute story though and I could honestly see myself as a bit of Gilbert at the end of the book. I also fell in love with the blurb on the back-cover.

This was a solid 5 star read for me.

Gilbert the Ghost is an absolute adorable book for children! Gilbert is different because he doesn’t want to be a scary ghost, and I loved the positive message of you don’t have to choose something you are uncomfortable with. Gilbert builds his own special world where he friends except and love him for exactly who he is.

A cute story about not fitting into you supposedly purpose in the world. This is a children's book, I know, but a lot of lost adults like me could really relate to this! Not being able to fit in with you "norm" is a hurtful feeling but this story just shows that there will always be somewhere else where you'd shine. Don't stop looking for your bright place. 💟

An absolute gem of a story about a little ghost who does things differently than the others. When he learns he is not very scary, Gilbert finds an old tower to reside in, making it warm and cozy, and eventually as a safe place for all his other ghostly friends when they need a rest. Charming and filled with warmth, Gilbert will stay with you long after you finish reading,

This. Was. ADORABLE! My dear friend is about to have her second child and their whole theme is spooky (she' goth) so I know I will be purchasing this one for her when it publishes! The artwork is great and the story is very sweet. It's about being yourself in spite of everything and I think that's a wonderful message for children.

A very sweet little picture book, with a lovely message! The illustrations are especially cute, and the way the text plays around with font size works charmingly.

This was such a cute and adorable children's book! I wish the cover was a little different but otherwise I can't wait to bring this one into our store. I think lots of people can relate to Gilbert, not just kids. It's okay to be different.

Gilbert the Ghost is not like the rest of his friends. He was born pink instead of white and he cannot Boo, but only Bahoo. This book was super sweet and the illustrations were beautiful. I loved the story about how it’s ok to be different as long as you are being yourself.

The font was a good size and the change in size made for a fun reading experience. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends with kiddos.

I loved this book. The character Gilbert is really adorable, as well as his friends and family. The ghost school reminded me of harry potter. Illustrations are beautiful and cute. Author and Illustrator Guido Van Genechten has done a great job in this book. The story as well as the detailing really brings out the essence of this book. I'm sure children would love this.
