This story is so, so unique. It uses crystals, myths and folklore in such an interesting way, weaving it into the threads of the plot masterfully. The writing reads so atmospherically, creating a whimsical effect that I love to read in books. The beginning catches your attention from the get-go with talking letters and animals that seem too wise to be normal. I love all of the fantastical elements of this novel which made it a delight to read. The novel also deals with a variety of themes, such as suicide, family, and self-harm. I would be aware of these things before reading, but I think the author deals with these topics sensibly and appropriately. As well as this, all of the characters were well-rounded and expertly crafted individuals. Above all, though, I loved Esme the most, our resident mirror girl.

One thing I noticed was that the description of the Krystallos wasn't mentioned until later on in the novel when it should have been included earlier, or at least near the beginning.

That being said, the ending was fantastic and has left me with a multitude of questions. This novel was a fun read indeed.

I tried so hard to read this book but I cannot finish it. The reviews made it seem super promising and the description sounded awesome. The problem I have though is the writing and story progression.

The writing is juvenile and sounds like something I would have written in middle school. It's extremely repetitive.

The main character makes no sense to me. She is scared of two guys with strange eyes but is ok with the third guy who appears virtually out of nowhere. To top it off he also has strange eyes, but he's ok according to her.

I understand that the book is catered towards YA but the reading level feels far inferior, almost middle grade. The main character feels extremely immature and unfortunately I cannot continue reading.
