I am so glad to get the happily ever after story for Rune Abaddon, especially with all that he had sacrificed. For decades he has been a rogue dragon shifter, he has a bounty on his head, he was seen as a traitor by his own team all because he did what he knew was right. He deserves some happiness and peace. Hadyn Reece was absolutely perfect for him. Even though she is human, she was actually a mate for a dragon shifter but he had died when she was a child along with her human parents. She was raised by her mate’s parents and taught her all about their way of life. When her adopted rogue parents were taken in by the Alliance, she was determined to save them. With direction by her father, she set on her quest to find Rune to ask for his help. I was in awe of her determination and her skills on tracking him down. But even after the amazing feat of locating him, she still had an uphill battle to convince him to help. Once Rune is convinced (somewhat) to help rescue Hadyn’s adopted parents, it was non-stop action, suspense and so much drama. I was seriously on pins and needles throughout this story. So much happens and there were many scenes that really put me through the emotional wringer! And underlying all that is this intense chemistry between the two. They both fought against the attraction until it was no longer able to be contained.

I loved Rune and Hadyn’s story so much. Rune was a closed off loner for so long so to have this strong, independent, firecracker love him as much as he loves her was just fantastic. It was also so wonderful to see him interact with his former team and hash out all that had happened.

I have read all of the books in this Fire’s Edge series along with the interconnecting series, Inferno Rising, and I have to say this one is one of my favorites.

Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

I am completely in love with both Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising, so coming to their end and having it be the story of my favorite dragon, Rune, well, let’s just say it was the hardest book in the series to read. Not because there was anything wrong with it. On the contrary, it was the perfect ending to an amazing series. It’s just that it was heartbreaking, just knowing this is the end of a mind-blowing series that has completely captured my heart.
Rune's story is a wild one, but one that has been a long time coming. Being the outcast for so long has made him a bit bitter, a touch of a loner, and massively paranoid. So, when Hadyn comes face to face with this legend, it's not surprising that her heart skips a beat. Well, it could be because he himself is breathtaking, particularly when in his dragon form. For me, it was like reading my dreams on paper. I've always wanted to come face to face with a dragon. Then to ride one! But to have one turn onto a gorgeous, dangerous man? Well, that's the epitome of my favorite dreams! And Abigail tells it all so well that I can picture it as if I were there.
But all the heat that goes on between the two of them is not all there is to the story. We can't forget his position outside the clans, and what his main goal has been since he split with the enforcers; keeping the possible mates safe from the Alliance, who seemed bent on passing them around like throwaway napkins, allowing any dragon king to attempt to mate them, even if their clan marks didn't match. Even knowing it could kill them if they aren't compatible mates. This was what Rune had dedicated his life to doing, but he's been named rogue, and he's hunted as if he were a criminal for this because no one believes him, that this is being done to the mates.
But Hadyn knows better. Her parents knew better. And with her confidence and her sassy mouth, she slowly worms her way into Rune's life.
I'm not going to tell any more of the story. I don't do spoilers. Suffice it to say it picks up from there delving further into the tumultuous lives of the American clans and the fight over High King, and the danger the mates face regularly. Not only Rune and Haydn are working to protect them; there are others helping them. So, from here, this amazing tale takes off into a hair-raising, adrenaline pumping, heart pounding, tear jerking story that you won't be able to put down. I'm so glad she saved Rune to the last. It just made me appreciate him that much more.
So beautifully done, as usual, Abigail Owen! Beautifully done indeed! I am going to miss those guys. Though I know you'll throw us a bone now and again and give us a novella or two about outlier characters...right? You did such a superb job of letting us into your world of Dragon shifters that I know anything that comes next will be even better (if possible!).

The Traitor is book six in the Fire’s Edge series. I haven’t read any of the previous books, so I can honestly say this one is written as a standalone title. There were no holes in the plot where I was lost due to not reading any of the other books, nor did any part feel like an information dump, either. I’ve only read one other book by this author and really enjoyed it, so I thought I’d give this new release a try.

Once upon a time, I said I wasn’t a huge fan of paranormal romance/suspense books, save for the Twilight series. But authors like Abigail Owen have quickly changed my mind, and I seem to be on a paranormal romance kick for the moment. I ultimately read it in one day (and way too late into the night so that I didn’t have to put it down!). It’s a dragon shifter romance full of heart-pounding action, edge-of-your-seat suspense, heartwrenching emotion, and intense chemistry between the hero and heroine. It sucked me in from page one, with action and emotion hitting me from all sides. Tears were shed, and curse words wanted to fly out of my mouth (but did not because my sleeping hubs would have been so mad!) several times throughout the story, as it’s truly an emotional rollercoaster ride. I enjoyed it so much that I’m off to read the series’ previous books!

NICUnurse’s Rating: I give The Traitor by Abigail Owen 4 out of 5 stars!

Since the deaths of her human parents, and the dragon shifter who would have been her mate, Hayden has been living with her dead mate's parents. As rogue dragons they're always in hiding. Now unfortunately, they have been captured, so she needs help to free them.

Rogue dragon shifter Rune has been caught up in battle and just wants a little rest. That's not going to happen with a human girl freezing her butt off on his mountain.

Our brave heroine knows the risks she must take and is prepared. Our weary and frustrated hero must call on all his strength and a few favours to bring these troubles to an end.

An action packed paranormal romance filled with fabulous characters and some sexy scenes. There is terrifying danger ahead and an impossible task to complete.

It is part of a series, but could be read on it's own.

I loved it.

Pushed beyond her limits, Hayden's whole life has been one of secrecy and hiding. But when her parents are kidnapped by enforcers, she follows the plan as trained for and seeks out the one who may be able to help her regain control. Rune's reputation as a protector, as a renegade, as a traitor to the throne precedes him. Trust is not given easily but his dragon senses more than he can explain. Will he be willing to put it all on the line for a human who's mate has been lost to her? Will the unexplained attraction cause trouble when he can afford it the most? Will fate have the last laugh?

Love, love, love Hadyn and Rune. I loved their chemistry. There is great action/adventure, as always, as they travel and encounter dangerous situations. They also had great banter that had me laughing out loud.
Oh, and close to the end, one scene had me on the verge of losing it. Hadyn asks Rune for something gut-wrenching and I had to read it over twice to make sure I was reading correctly.

When Hadyn's adopted dragon parents are taken, she travels all the way to South America looking for the one man/dragon her father said could help her. But after the Alliance attacked his secluded hideaway, Rune is wary of the human.

Having been raised around dragons her whole life Hadyn is pretty at ease around him and doesn't easily freak out when they have to quickly flee his hideaway. And of course, the more time he spends with her, his attraction grows and he'd like to make her his.

First, I will start off by saying if you haven't read the previous books, you need to in order to fully enjoy this series. I have been following Abigail Owens since the first book in Fire’s Edge, and there is a lot of worldbuilding done early on that is important to understand before reading this book. It is what a lot of us long-time readers have been waiting for, because we've always known that the hero would be getting his story at some point. We weren't sure how, we weren't sure when, but somehow Abigail Owen would write him a romance to trump all those before him. And we weren't wrong. This book is my favorite in the series, for both the unique backstory of the heroine and the slow (seriously, so slow) burn between her and the hero. I was in agony as we waited for them to finally come together, which is the best sort of pain while reading. Once the burn is satisfied, there is no better feeling on Earth.

A dragon's mate with a dead mate straddles the human and dragon world with some discomfort. Hadyn Reece was raised by dragon parents after her own parents were killed, alongside her intended mate, at the young age of ten years old. Having shown her dragon sign much younger than normal, she has had a decade to hone her skills and understand her place in the world. With her mate dead, she knew she'd never get another mate, and that's why she is so surprised when she meets Rune Abbadon and feels a strong connection unlike any she has ever felt before. Rune is shocked when he sees a human scaling his mountain, even more so when she looks straight into his hidden camera and calls his name. Curious and full of distrust, he greets her, and when her story checks out, they find themselves on the run from his enemies while simultaneously heading towards even more danger. Hadyn's adopted parents have been kidnapped, and Rune is the one they told Hadyn to come to for help. In exile as a rogue, Rune has few allies, but it's not in his nature to turn away a dragon's mate in need. Thus begins a journey many years in the making, with the ending uncertain and the path full of hidden surprises.

Beyond an obvious fated mates trope at work here, we also have several other elements to this story that really whet my appetite for more. One, Rune is a seemingly morally grey character for most of this series, so to suddenly see him as a man worthy of redemption is catnip to me. He is also a big old Grump next to Hadyn's Sunshine, which is also something I love to read. Hadyn was bubbly and outspoken, while Rune was sullen and of few words, which made their interactions all the more hilarious. She kept trying to get under his skin, and when it worked, he was so shocked, making me laugh every time. At one point she got him to smile, and it was just so adorable to see him start to come out from behind this wall he had built for himself. He was so used to being rejected and thought of as the enemy, and when no one else had believed him about the mates being mated against their will, he expected Hadyn to do the same. Instead, this woman who hadn't known him for very long, saw the good in him. It was heartwarming to see Rune finally get the support he had deserved for so long. Hadyn was good for him, in ways he had never thought possible.

Abigail Owen continues to impress me with her writing, and although the previous book in this series wasn't one I enjoyed, I feel that this book makes up for it in spades. So many characters to love, and I am so looking forward to seeing what she writes next.

**I received a copy of The Traitor from Entangled Publishing in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way.**

The Traitor by Abigail Owens is a wonderful book and written exactly as I figured Rune to be with his future mate, Hayden. Although there is a sad event in the story all of the Huracans are able to put aside how and why Rune left them to protect the future Dragon mates. I can't wait to see who will be in the next book.

Hayden has lived most of her life with Chaghan and Qara her foster parents and was once going to be their late son's mate but he was killed. So when the Alaz enforcers come them they don't hesitate to hide her and let the enforcers take them as prisoners. They know that Hayden has been taught how to survive and to find Rune to convince him to plan their rescue. What she didn't expect was to feel a possible mate bond. But when they are attacked while rescuing her parents who will survive and who won't?

Rune left his group and went rogue to protect the future dragon mates. He never expected to find Hayden in his South America home nor that he'd need to rescue her parents. How will he convince the Huracans and others to risk their lives and help with the rescue of the Alaz prisoners?

Actual rating 3.5
This book is part of a series. I didn't read any of the others but it didn't prove a problem as each book centers on different main characters and there is enough back story given that a reader isn't lost if they haven't read any others.

This was an interesting read. Dragons aren't my favorite to read about. There isn't the same range as there is with other paranormal characters. Shifters as a whole aren't as intriguing to me.

I liked the idea of the dragon shifters finding their mates among human women who are capable of becoming dragon themselves. This story is quite dark in that there are elements of rape, kidnapping and death for the women who are taken by the committee. The rogues are trying to save these women but it's still darker subject matter.

This is a series that is worth picking up if you are looking for a paranormal romance with a decent plot with a darker edge.

I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is my first story from this authors and I have to say it was delightful! I enjoyed the tension and the heat between the two main characters. Their push and pull and "head butting" was the best parts of this story. The author also did an amazing job of adding action and "magic" into the story and I was so in love with the dragons. This can be read as a standalone and it is complete with a HFN ending. I cannot wait to read more in this world, with these characters and please, more dragons!! I received an ARC via Netgalley and Entangled Publishers and I am leaving an honest review.

This is the 5th book in the series and dare I say, it's the one fans have been dying to get to? Rune has been the outcast, the bad guy, the hero to many over the course of the series. Well now he has met his match!

Rune has been saving human mates from the Mating Council and sure death for years. He and his band of rogues have hidden the women away from dragon kind so that they hopefully can make their own choices. He is all calm and cool until a little firecracker finds him. And Hadyn knows way more about Dragons than she should.

The two reluctantly work together but Rune's Dragon recognizes her and wants her. Lots of things are changing in the world of Kings and mates. The power struggle continues. What Dragons thought they new about mating and females is quickly being blown apart.

We get to see a lot of action in this one. Secrets come out. We get support not only form more rogues but from Rune's old teammates. LOTs happening in this story and it was FANTASTIC!

I will be so sad when this series ends as well as the Kings series. Everything is fast approaching resolution. You would be best to read the series in order as the story arc continues throughout.

Great story!

Oh. My. Holy. Dragons!!!!!!!!!! Should I say it? I'm gonna say it. I've been reading this author's dragon series for years and have fallen further in love with not only the world she has created, but her style of writing. So I'm gonna just coin this now......Abigail Owen is the queen of Dragon Shifters! Ok, I said it. I feel better now.

If you've been following this series, then you know that Rune has been a sore topic. He's an arse, rogue and traitor to not only his king, but his former enforcer team. But guess what? We've come to find out that not everything is what it appears. There are always two, if not more, sides to every story and this one pulled at each and every heart string.

Hadyn isn't your typical human. She's actually a human mate who lost her destined mate before she could be turned. Since she hasn't been turned, she will no longer live the eternal life she was told she had the chance to live. Although her mate died, her mates parents took her in, schooled her on everything dragon shifter related and taught her how to live in their world. Except now they have been captured. So she turns to the one person she was told could help...Rune. Finding him won't be the issue, convincing him to help will.

SOOOOO many things happen in this book that there is NO WAY I can continue filling you in without ruining it. The only thing that I can say without doubt it that this is absolutely the best one yet. I literally CRIED!!!!!!!! Cried!!!!! I laughed and then cried again. This is so beautifully written that I honestly think that I'll be reading it again.....and again....and again!

Definitely one of my favorites of this series! Hayden is definitely my favorite mate, plus she has a super interesting back story. Rune is sexy as always. Everyone loves a bad-for-the-right-reasons-boy. Hopefully there will be more stories from the Huracan team. Hall, Kanta, and the twins need love too, right?!

4.5 stars - I’m loving these dragon romances, friends. In The Traitor we see Rune find his perfect match in Haydn. Haydn found her mate as a very young girl and then he died before she was properly mated. As a not-quite-mate, Haydn has to find a dragon to help save her adoptive parents. Watching these two meet and fall in love was pretty special!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Yes!!! Finally another book in the Fire's Edge series. I really love the Huracáns. Those guys are so hot and fun loving. I mean really, who doesn't love a sexy fireman!? Well in this book we finally get the story behind the rogue enforcer, Rune. And let me tell you it is a master piece.

Hadyn is on a mission to save her adoptive parents. A mission that is very dangerous for such a pixie like women. But never the less she is on that mission, currently climbing a mountain in the Andes, alone. What is she looking for? Or shall we say who?

Rune is back in the abandoned mountain base. The base was brought down by another casualty of the ongoing war. What he doesn't expect to find is a tiny woman staring into one of the security cameras calling his name. And so begins the interesting story so intense, everything shifts.

This book takes off like a race horse off the starting line. It is intense and grabs your attention immediately. This book is an action packed adventure that has loads of danger and some twists that will have you wondering what is really happening to the dragon shifters.

Hadyn and Rune embark on a dangerous mission together and if the adrenaline they experience doesn't bring them together, then the chemistry will. Because they have loads of it. These two characters were meant to be. They are perfect for each other, with their attitudes and snarky behavior. They are both very strong and independent characters with lots of hidden undertones.

Overall this book is an excellent continuation into the beautiful dragon shifter world that Ms Owen has created. The story is developing at an increasing rate and with all the spin off books we are learning more and more that just because something has always been, doesn't mean that is the way it should be.

Things are definitely happening and death is rising for out shifter friends. It is a battle to the death in some cases. Which brings me to the next point....bring tissues because not only will this book make you laugh and yell out when someone punches someone, it will make you cry. Not just shed a single tear or couple of tears and your done cry. No it will make you wail! Cry so hard that you will have snot running out your nose and can't catch your breath cry! This book will tear your heart to pieces. Because not all characters have a happy ending.

I am so in love with this series. And this book just topped favorite! I love Rune's strong and overbearing side. I also love his tough and dangerous side. The side that screams leader. He is definitely deserving of loads of love and respect. I can't wait to see how the dragon world shift affects the new future.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I was so excited to see Rune get his book!! Wow, just loved the book and could not put it down - there is so much happening and lots of action, danger, romance, and sorry to say some sad parts.

Hadyn searched out Rune for help when her adopted parents were captured by dragons. Rune is very suspicious of her and not sure she isn't bait!

Through their journey, they fight a mutual attraction until they can't. We get to see the previous couples and learn what has been happening to them along with a couple new additions to this group.

I won't go into more detail and give away and spoilers but this book was just so much fun to read and had me running the whole range of emotions while reading. Hope that this upheaval in the dragon world will be resolved soon and they can figure what is causing the strange change in the mates and mating signs.

Wow, what a series end. It was the end I think, well definitely a HFN.

This is Runes story and he's got his work cut out with Haydn a strong woman, to be honest they're both very independent so it made it a fun read.

Back to Rune, he's good at dirty talking and not too bad at enacting it. I'm sure there was more sex in this book than the others, or it was just hotter - no pun intended!

If your looking for an exciting dragon read this is one to add to your TBR, it has everything action, drama, passion, and heartache.

I'll miss these dragons, I've really enjoyed this series.

Favorite Quote: “I knew she was going to be trouble the second I saw her.”

The heroine: Hayden Reece - a human woman whose adoptive parents were dragon shifters. Her fated mate was killed when she was 10 years old along with her human parents. She was raised by his parents who were rogue dragon shifters.

The Hero(es): Rune Abaddon - one of the first black dragons selected to be enforcers in the colonies. Rune was one of the Huracán enforcers until he turned rogue and left the team to rebel against the clans and the mating council. He was branded a traitor and is to be killed on site if found.

The story: Rune’s band of rogue shifters and the fated mates they were protecting have left the mountains in Argentina where he has been based for the last ten years when he finds Hayden climbing the mountain in search of him. Her adoptive parents have been taken by Alaz enforcers and she needs his help to save them.

Rune and Hayden travel to from Argentina to the Pacific Northwest, the mountain stronghold of Rune’s former team, the Huracán enforcers where they ask for help from the enforcers and the local populations of dragon shifters. The guys from the previous books in this series and their mates all have roles in this book and it is nice to see they aren’t at odds with Rune like they were in the earlier books.

The chemistry between Rune and Hayden is off the charts even though she lost her fated mate at a young age and is not able to be a mate to Rune. Dragon’s only have one fated mate and part of the mating ritual is for the dragon to breathe fire into the potential mate. If they are wrong about being mates, the female will die. If they are mates, the female becomes a dragon shifter.

The mating council has been pairing high ranking clan members with all the potential mates that are found despite knowing many are likely not to be mates to those dragons, so a lot of the potential mates are dying and Rune has been saving them for years and now many of the other dragon shifters in the colonies are finally realizing he was never a traitor but a protector.

The different storylines were all great and the struggles the dragons are having with the alliance seems to me to be quite similar in many ways to what happened with Humans in the Americas. How they left their homes in Europe and came to America and decided they no longer want to answer to a king so far away.

In this case all the dragon clans in the old country are separated by color, with each having their own king and one high king, but in the colonies there are dragons of every color living together. It is more of a melting pot.
