This was an enjoyable read. Miles is a pretty fun, easygoing character. There wasn't anything super original but it held my interest.

It’s been a while since I read an entire book in a day, but this one I did. It is testament to how quickly I became invested in these character’s stories, and how much I loved this book as a whole that I managed it.

This was such a fun read! It was wonderfully comedic, but was heartfelt and honest when it needed to be. Plus, this book probably had my favourite use of the love triangle. I am usually not a love triangle fan, but this was done in such a way that it didn’t feel as toxic and possessive as a love triangle usually does to me (though there was definitely a little possessiveness there from one of the triangle points).

I loved almost all the characters, they were all really nicely fleshed out, and felt real to me. Lorcan – our main character’s best friend – acted in ways that made it quite difficult to like him completely, but to me, he redeemed himself enough by the end of the novel, so I can’t completely dislike him. All round, even the characters that didn’t appear much were memorable, and in some cases, I was hoping to see them a little more. Ben, Nathan’s dad was probably my favourite aside from Nathan or Miles. He was really understanding, and his relationship with Nathan was great. I love a solid parent/child relationship in fiction.

I think my favourite part about this novel as a whole was the narration. Nathan as the POV (Point of View) character had me laughing out loud in places. Plus, he was so oblivious a lot of the time, that I was telling him “Honestly Nathan, can’t you see what’s happening…”. Plus his inner dialogues were all very amusing.

I definitely recommend this to lovers of LGBTQ+ romance fiction, especially if you’re a fan of rom-coms with just the right amount of cheesy-ness!

I really liked parts of this book and overall it was a fun fast book! It took me a while to get into it and I found some of the interactions so tedious but I did enjoy other scenes a great deal.

Miles and Nathan are both very sweet and I loved their interactions right from the start. Lorcan rubbed me the wrong way right from the beginning and I didn't warm to him at all, he just wasn't at all likable. I felt no sympathy for him whatsoever.

I loved that Nathan's dad was Deaf and that the use of ASL was so normalized and included in the story, he was also such a cool character and I loved the relationship that Nathan and his dad had.

Overall this was a decent read and I enjoyed it.

Thanks to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When I saw this cover and read this synopsis I knew I was going to love this story. A traditional rom-com with a queer twist, “The Wingman” had every potential to be biting and cheesy, but I’m happy to report that wasn’t the case!
Nathan is hopelessly in love with his best friend Lucan. When Lucan reveals he is bisexual to Nathan, he feels like this might be his chance…until Lucian tells him he has met someone else…the tattooed, handsome Miles. Forever Lucan’s wingman, Nathan agrees to help him get the dude, despite his feelings for Lucan. When a camping trip gone wrong results in more than a few mishaps that lead to Miles and Nathan stringing up a friendship, the 3 men find themselves in a rather entangled love triangle.
What fun this was! It was fun waiting to see who Nathan was going to end up with. Once the friendship between Nathan and Miles started blooming it was clear that Miles was only interested in Lucan, but to be honest I was t sure where it was going to go with Lucian and Nathan until about 3/4 if the way through.
Miles is the right choice for Nathan and I’m very happy that Nathan felt the same. Lucan was full stop an entitled brat. Sorry, from beginning to end I did not like his character. He took Nathan for granted while being kind of douchey to him. Nathan is a sweetheart, loving, caring, and deserved the same.
This actually got me out of a bit of a reading funk. The last few books I’ve read have been meh at best but i was drawn into this story from the jump. Outstanding writing, funny and witty, “The Wingman” really stands out as a highlight of recent reads

I got this off of Netgalley these opinions are my own. I loved this book! Nathan was a fun protagonist and I always like reading about protagonists who underestimate themselves. I enjoyed Nathan and Miles getting to know each other, it’s a slow but it’s all the more comfortable to me because of that! I love how unaware Nathan is! I think the dynamics for both Nathan and Miles with their families is also really endearing! As a person who works with people with disabilities I enjoyed how A. Poland came up with a unique way to let the reader recognize that there were different communication styles happening in the book. I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read more from A. Poland or for The Wingman to come out!

Rating: 4.5 stars

I almost DNF'd this in the first few pages because the writing in the opening chapter feels somewhat stilted. It sure doesn't take A. Poland long to get into the swing of things, though, because this book quickly picks up and sucked me right in.

I have to say, I simply ADORE a love triangle that's actually a triangle. Usually when there's a "love triangle" trope it's more Person A likes Person B, and Person C likes Person A. Or maybe person B and C both like Person A but A can't decide who they like. Rarely do you get a full on A likes B, B likes C, C likes A, and I am here for it.

This is such a fun and adorable story. Nathan is a dang mess, and I love him, LOL. There are so many silly and also sweet moments in this book. Nathan is definitely rom-com levels of accident prone, and it makes for some really great moments. To use a cliche (but very true!) statement - this book kept me up way past my bedtime. And then I also woke up early to read a bit more before work. And that's about the best recommendation I can give any book!! I look forward to reading more by A. Poland.

I enjoyed this, though it felt a bit drawn out at times and the near constant em dashes and parentheses were annoying. The story overall was good and I liked the characters, especially Miles. I would have loved to have had his POV, and Lorcan's, too, but the author did a great job of showing us their feelings even if Nathan didn't see them.

I really enjoyed the book and the fact that there was an actual love triangle going on instead of a love arrow. I really like Nathan and Miles characters and thought their banter was really nice. I also thought the relationship Nathan had with his father was really lovely. Not really a fan of Lorcan but I liked how he was instantly forgiven by Nathan in the end and acknowledged he had to work on the way they interacted with another. I absolutely loved Miles' sisters and couldn't get enough of them when they were shown in the book. I wish the book spent a little more time on them based on how interesting they were to me but I understand that they were not really the focus of the book.

I REALLY enjoyed this book! The Wingman follows main character Nathan, who is used to landing his best friend Lorcan dates, while he stays alone. When Lorcan asks him to wingman a hot guy for him after his bisexual awakening, Nathan devises a plan to keep Miles away from him. After all, Nathan has been carrying a torch for Lorcan for years, and now that he's had his bisexual awakening, he knows he has a chance. But when Nathan and Miles start spending more time together, Nathan is forced to confront his relationship with his best friend, and what he wants to be to him in the future.

I thought the character writing in this novel was really great. You understand the characters personalities, their motivations are clear and changing, and they're very realistic. The way the author writes their various relationships is also super realistic, very charismatic, and very fun to read. The pacing is perfect for the plot, and I couldn't put it down!

I read this all in one sitting, unable to go to bed as I was gripped by the characters and plot. Definitely check this out!
