I enjoyed this book. Even though it's book 2 in a series I was able to enjoy it without reading the first book. It's fast paced and the characters are enjoyable. #SavedbytheSpell #NetGalley

Mischief and mayhem abound in Susanna Shores latest, Saved by the Spell, House of Magic #2. Phoebe Thorpe has a spell cast on her which makes her repulsive to men. The House of Magic paranormals have a very dangerous and difficult task breaking the spell. I loved all the magic in this story. The spells and spell-casting are fun to read about. I like all the main characters and how they support each other. This book has a surprise ending that I'm sure readers will enjoy.

I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

The genre says it is a Cozy Mystery novel but it was much more than that, it has so greatly adventures and fun events that it kept me going until l the end.
I like the fact that I have not read the first book yet and it didn't feel like I needed to. I cherished that.
For the readers, remember that family and friends can be able to keep you alive.

Phoebe Thorpe receive an invitation to her cousin’s engagement party and can only imagine her mother’s response…”When are YOU gong to get married, Phoebe”? Too bad Phoebe can’t tell her mother that a spell was cast on her and men find her repulsive. But Phoebe hopes that her boss and her landladies can break the curse before she has to tell her mother anything about her lack of relationship prospects.

As Phoebe’s boss and landladies try to help her they come up against a dark force of magic that is trying to take over London. Is the spell cast on Phoebe a part of it all? If they can figure it out and find the Mage that was abducted, they may just solve it all and save London. if not, things could take an ugly turn all around.

I really enjoy this series and while I will say this now, DO NOT LOOK AT THE BACK OF THE BOOK, it’s the last sentence in the book that has me hooked and already trying to find out when the next book in the series will drop. :) If you like paranormal cozies, this is definitely one to add to your reading list. You won’t regret it.

Second in this most delightful fun series! Phoebe is such a fun character! The story moves along at a good pace and starts at where the last book, Hexing the Ex left off. I am totally hooked on this series! Thanks #netgalley and #CrimsonHouseBooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

So apparently Phoebe is making it a habit of getting bespelled.
"Mystery" and "straightforward plot" and "lighthearted seem" like characteristics that can't go together but this is all of them. This could be positive or negative depending on subjective taste.
Cozy magical mystery with overarching romance plot is a hell of a nichey niche.
It's managing to keep my curiosity enough to hope I'll catch book 3, so good job on that. The loveable main cast helps (yes hi can we get more pagetime for Luca? I continue to keep my character preferences on brand)

Phoebe and the gang are at it again, fighting evil warlocks and mages who want to control London. Fun characters and fast paced story makes for an easy read. Highly recommend this book and author.

This book started off pretty much where Hexing the Ex left off. We are still following Phoebe in her escapades into the world of magic and the unknown. Saved by the Spell kicks off to a much better start in my opinion. There is a quick introduction to all the characters and a summary of what happened in the first book so honestly you could probably start with this one and be just fine. I did appreciate that there was a more in depth description of the main characters this go around because I was having a hard time picturing them before.

I ran into a wolf outside my bedroom. Not literally, or I wouldn’t be here to tell the tale.

I really enjoyed Phoebe’s inner thoughts more in this book. She seems to be developing her “voice” a bit more and her internal dialogue was entertaining.

He offered a hand, and I shook it. And like a cliché in every romance novel that I’d read- aid I’d read a lot- a tingle spread from his hand to mine.

Seems like we might be getting some romance in this book? I stated in my review of the first House of Magic book that it read a bit like a rom com without the rom and this one is the same. While there are some hints at some more than friendly feelings towards Phoebe, I would not consider this a romance novel by any means.

Trust men to want a spell like that.

In true Phoebe fashion, she has found herself at the receiving end of some magic. This time a spell instead of a curse that makes her repulsive to men.

I will say that I enjoyed this book much more than the first. There are a good bit of plot twists and the mystery that the first book was lacking. It was an enjoyable and easy read that could be accomplished in a single sitting. This one also ended on a bit of a cliff hanger

The positives- more plot twist, more character descriptions, fast paced

The negatives- still a little too lighthearted for my taste, the conflicts seem to be solved too easily

Overall a solid 3/5

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Someone has cast a spell on Phoebe which repels men from her. With the help of her boss Kane and her friends, she sets out to find a counter spell or someone who can break the spell.
I'm in love with Susanna's writing. It was more exciting than the last book in the series and it kept me hooked the entire time. And the end! I'm eagerly waiting for the next installment in the series!

Title: Saved by the Spell
Author: Susanna Shore
Publication date: August 15th, 2021
Series: House of Magic #2

Summary: Magic and I hadn’t exactly had a good start, but thanks to a spell that made me repulsive to men, I was seriously considering becoming a witch hunter.

A chance encounter with a charming stranger makes Phoebe dream of a happily-ever-after, until she learns that there’s a spell on her that makes her repulsive to men. Luckily her boss, Archibald Kane, and her new landladies are experts on magic. Only this one seems to confound them all.

Who has spelled her and why? Is it a challenge on Kane’s leadership of the mages? Or is there a more sinister game afoot?

Phoebe doesn’t mind the space men give her in the tube, but her cousin’s engagement party is coming up. How is she to celebrate, if she makes half the guests nauseous? And how is she to charm the man of her dreams when she suspects he’s part of the problem?

It might take the Archmage to break the spell—if only they could find him. A spell may be needed to save them both.

Review: I am so thankful to Netgalley for providing me with the second book in the series. I started reading it as soon as I was approved. The ending of this book was everything I could have hoped for. I cannot wait to see what Susanna brings out for book three, in the mean time I think I need to read like literally every other book she has written. I absolutely love her writing style. The characters are lovable and well written all growing in their own ways. I cannot wait to see what becomes of Kane as well in the next book. I highly recommend this series.
