I really wanted to like this book, but sadly it is not for me. This book was overlong, with way too many details. It felt like a log getting through it.

An absolutely lovely read. A mix of many different characters, great story, family secrets, romance, a castle, Christmas and a cute dog called Plum. The perfect read. Struggled to put this down, so many stories unfolding. Only one problem, all the talk of food made me hungry lol. I loved Dido, Xan, Henry and even Sabine. A wealth of different personalities, all together for one last Christmas at the castle.

Pure Magic. A very poignant, magical witty Christmas story. Dido Jones and her friend Henry run Houseparties. They specialised in more than just dinner parties. Christmas was their busiest time. At the last minute someone cancelled them. Within minutes Henry received a phone call booking them for a month to cover before Christmas and after the New Year. The terms were that Sabine, wanted a Christmas liked she remembered from when she was young. They could fulfil this especially as it was in a Castle. Mitras Castle. Sabine was dying and this was her last Christmas. There was to be ten for Christmas and a couple staying for all of it. Armed with DVDs to watch, in their spare time and plenty of warm clothes as being an old castle they were expecting it to be rather cold. When Sabine requested a meeting with them the next morning everything was friendly until Sabine looked at Dido. Her attitude seemed to change. Although polite, she was always rather frosty with her. This book is full of secrets waiting to unfold.

This is so well written and characterisations are so believable. At times I admired Sabine and others thought she was rather cutting. Henry was a delight. I would be happy for him to come and prepare afternoon tea for me. He had a wonderful sense of humour. Dido was amazing and loveable. I felt for her all the way through. As we went through the castle and the rooms were described, you can visualise the setting. The Winter Garden, which Sabine favoured and nurtured was the one place that Dido felt was magical. The other characters, Xan who was a relative of Sabine’s, was the last person Dido expected to come face to face with. He had been friends with Henry and her brother in their youth. Unfortunately she was 16 and made a nuisance of herself, as she was so enamoured. However, not returned. Nancy was Sabine’s best friend from university. She was a very caring, helpful person and knew exactly how to handle Sabine. With the other minor characters, it was a very well-balanced mix of personalities.

Thank you, Tricia Ashley, for such a terrific Christmas novel. You do not let your readers down.

This was so much fun and gave me all the good Christmassy vibes. Honestly had everything you would want in a feel good Christmas book.

This took me a long time to read on kindle. Such a long book.

I enjoyed the characters and how they interested with each other.

I found the relationship between Xan and Dido a bit unrealistic. But then it is a rom com.

I throughly enjoyed it.

I am a great fan of Trisha Ashley and always look forward to her latest publications eagerly. 'One More Christmas at the Castle' did not disappoint. The characters were engaging and the twists and turns that led to the final denouement added interest and curiosity to see how they would resolve. All in all another very satisfying read from this master of the genre.

Elderly widow Sabine is determined to make her last Christmas in her beloved home, Mitras Castle, one to remember. So she employs Dido Jones of Heavenly Houseparties to help with the occasion. Dido is instantly enchanted by the imposing castle – a connection that only gets stronger as Christmas day approaches. But as the snow begins to fall and Sabine’s family arrive – including Dido’s teenage crush Xan – tensions rise and long-buried secrets come to light.

Trisha Ashley’s Christmas themed books are always full of charm, wit and beautifully picturesque settings. One More Christmas at the Castle follows the tradition – in fact, it’s one of the author’s best festive novels to date.

It is always an absolute highlight of the festive season to spend time in Trishaworld and one i look forward to every year. This year is no exception. Dido and Henry's Christmas in the glorious surroundings of Mitras Castle with its seamless combination of cosy and sumptuous (and as always with Trisha , mouth-watering descriptions of food) is the perfect antidote to the pandemic blues.

One More Christmas at the Castle by Trisha Ashley

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Elderly widow Sabine knows this will be her last Christmas in her beloved home, Mitras Castle. Determined to make it just like the ones she remembers from her childhood, she employs Dido Jones of Heavenly Houseparties to help with the big day.

Dido is enchanted by the castle as soon as she steps through the imposing front door. And as Christmas day approaches, her feeling of connection to the old house runs deeper than she first thought. But when the snow begins to fall and Sabine's family arrive at the house - including Dido's teenage crush Xan - tensions rise around the castle's future and long-buried mysteries begin to unravel...

This book took me days to get through as I really struggled to get into it. This book could have been much shorter which would have made it far more enjoyable. Usually I enjoy Trisha's books so I was very surprised at by this one. Full of Christmas spirit - this book will help you get in the festive mood.

Personally I felt there were too many characters to keep track of and the plot was just lacking some pace.

Rating 3/5

Not a bad Christmas story but I don’t think it’s one of her best. A nice festive read for over Christmas though.

This book has all the ingredients to get you in the mood for Christmas: a beautiful castle in a lovely setting, great characters, and several romances. Sabine wants one last Christmas like the ones of her childhood, and hires Heavenly Houseparties for the month to make it happen. Henry and Dido are a great team and able to meet every request from Sabine. Interesting twists and turns, lots of good humor, and a little romance in this wonderfully festive read from Trisha Ashley.

I loved the partnership between Dido and Henry, the way they know each other and work together so well. When they arrive at the castle as party planners cum housekeepers to organise the dying Mrs Powys's final Christmas we just know they will make a great job of it. But lots more happens too, with romance, crime, nice and nasty characters, and past secrets aplenty. I did feel the book was a bit too long and there were too many passages that just described the day to day cooking and serving of meals, or walks in the grounds, where little happened. And, despite the intriguing guest list, many of the guests did not enter the castle, or the story, until three quarters of the way through. A satisfying ending, even if the way the relationships develop feels a bit hurried.

A delightful read brimming with quirky characters, Christmas spirit & food!

Oh & a dog almost as cute as his owner.

It lost a 🌟 because I felt I was a bit too long.

I buddy read this story and enjoyed it. I did feel it potentially didn’t have to be as long as it was and that I could have been slimed down a little bit (but that might just be me!?)

It was very Christmassy and gave me big downtown abbey vibes, might have something to do with the fact I’ve binged the whole series recently.

I loved the concept and the setting. The author really sets herself apart from other similar books with her descriptive elements.

All in all, I’ve given this a 3/5 stars.

If you are looking for lots of Christmas, this story has it! Big castle, getting it prepped and decorated, getting seasonal foods ready for the big day. Dido and Henry are a well oiled machine when it comes to holiday and party planning.

I enjoyed the characters in this book. They are each different, fun to get to know, and aren’t always what you expect. The romance between our male and female was lacking substance and feeling. I was not getting the feeling of love or even lust. It was almost as though aspects of them liking each other were implied as opposed to actually mentioned for the readers benefit.

I enjoyed reading about each character’s happenings and what they were up to, but the overall plot as a whole was also kind of lacking. There really wasn’t a ton to it and towards the end it kind of felt parts were being added in to being something new and/or different to the mix.

An entertaining read, give it a try and form your own opinion!!!

A great Christmas read! Sabine gathers all her relatives, distant and oblivious for a final Christmas at the castle. Hiring a fabulous catering and home help company for a month to put on the best Christmas. I loved the connections between the growing cast of characters and the slow unraveling of the family secrets that were buried in the invites! Little bit of mystery and drama, strung with romance, Christmas and food!

Charming story! Such a cosy, comfortable read. Beautiful setting and the descriptions of food will make your mouth water! Slight confusing keeping up with who was related to who but that’s easy to overlook. Thoroughly enjoyable and perfect for curling up with.

Thank you Netgalley.
