Good book. I liked the illustrations. Some kids don't like hugs and I am sure they would like this book.

This book was received as an ARC from Publisher Spotlight - Lantana Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I absolutely love this book and the concept of boys becoming superheroes and like most boys, they do not like to be cuddled. The illustrations were brilliantly executed and very eye-catchy which will bring attention to a lot of children. This book also reflects an important life lesson in which something is underappreciated until you don't have it anymore. A lot of our school teachers too will appreciate this book and the connection it has to many lessons learned for children. I know our children will love it and we definitely will consider it for a storytime candidate.

We will consider adding this title to our Picture Book collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

This book was enjoyed by 3 year old with a similar imagination to SuperJoe's. I have been recommending it to some friends with super kids, and I look forward to picking up a copy in print soon to read again with my kids.

I read Super Joe Does NOT Do Cuddles to my eight year old son. He gave it five out of five. He said that his favorite pictures in the book were pictures of the mother and son at the table reading the paper about the tiger on the loose.

He also enjoyed the pun about super Joe getting the runaway train back on track. He stayed totally invested in the story. It's hard to get him to calm down and transition to bedtime and this book held his attention completely.

I liked that there was diverse representation. I loved that super Joe had locs (dreadlocks). All in all this is a very enjoyable book for both myself and my eight-year-old. My eleven-year-old also listened in (while pretending not to) and eventually told me that she enjoyed the story and pictures as well. Finally, I loved the very sweet ending.

Thank you Lerner Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.

This is spot on! Perfect for families with a kiddo that can do it themselves, don't need anything from you, too cool for school! It's such a funny book because it's TRUE and because you can identify with the unconditional love from parents to kiddos. Loved this!

Maybe you have a superkid. One that likes to helpful and does not have time for hugs or feels maybe they don't need that special hug. Joe is that kid but it all changes when the night comes with all the night time noises and shapes. Joe likes his adventure during the day but the night time offers something a little more.

Our kids grow up and don't always appreciate the hugs we want to give them. This is for the hugger and the not so hugger.

A special thank you to Publisher Spotlight and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

This story is for anyone who likes superheroes. And anyone who does, knows how they come to the rescue but what happens at home is a mystery. This book gives us a look into the private life of Superhero Joe. Not only does he listen to his mom’s advice, we see how he cleverly dispatches each potential calamity.
The author cleverly depicts the traits of many boys growing up and exerting their independence. The graphics perfectly depict the characters of the story - Superhero Joe and also his nemesis, the Gray Shadow.
This story is fun and entertaining - even for adults. Definitely one a child will want to read and reread often.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

SuperJoe Does NOT Do Cuddles is a heartwarming tale of a superhero and his mama. It's the perfect mix of funny and sweet, and a delightful example of a compelling mother-son relationship. (She encourages SuperJoe in his adventures—just as long as he's prepared!) The style of the illustrations match the tone of hte text perfectly, and the ending is satisfying.

A lovely book about a young boy who loves to save the day, but he prefers to do it without a cuddle from mom, since that's what superheroes do! This all changes at bedtime when he can't sleep. Young kids will appreciate the humor and illustrations and it will warm every mom's heart!

Joe is a superhero. He finds runaway tigers, saves trains from going off their tracks, and rescues tourists from rickety bridges. There’s just one thing he DOESN’T do. He does not give cuddles! No matter how many times his mom asks for one! That is, he doesn’t give cuddles during the day. At night, when the lights go off . . . well, that’s a different story. Just don’t tell his archnemesis Gray Shadow.
Superjoe Does Not Do Cuddles by Michael Catchpool is a fun, upbeat read. Kids who dream of being a superhero will love his antics, and parents will appreciate seeing the gentle ways in which Mom steps in to supply Joe with the things he doesn’t think he needs. Clever art by Emma Proctor enhances the story, filling in the pieces Catchpool’s story doesn’t tell in an absolutely brilliant fashion. Truly, the art made me laugh on more than one occasion, and with each new item Mom introduced, I couldn’t wait to see how it would be used! The perfect read for any little superhero out there (and in particular for any mom who wishes she could squeeze in just one more cuddle!)
A big thanks to Lantana for the early read.
Check it out September 7!

Super Joe is super cute! Even though he doesn't always have times for cuddles with mom she makes sure he has everything he needs to fight off tigers, stop runaway trains, and save people from a collapsing bridge. The final pages of the story were adorable and show that even superheroes and their archenemies need cuddles sometimes. I hope there is another book featuring Gray Shadow more

This is the story about SuperJoe. He wants to do be a super hero without any adult help, especially from his mother. He ends up saving the world everyday with the help of his mom, although he doesn't want to admit it. His mom makes him wear a scarf and he ends up catching a tiger with it. But even a super hero needs a snuggle from their mom before going to sleep.

This is an adorable story. I love how everything is intertwined. The illustrations are wonderful. A great read aloud, especially at night!

This is a sweet story starring an invincible Superhero whose mission in life is to rescue tourists from dangerous tigers, harness runaway trains, and save people from collapsing bridges that crumble over out of control rushing rivers, just to name a few. He is convinced that his nemesis, the Grey Shadow, is the sinister mastermind behind all these catastophes!

SuperJoe is his alter ego name and super feats he accomplishes. Before he rushes out to his next assignment his loving mother attempts to give him a cuddle before he departs. SuperJoe rejects her offer as he is a busy man and Superheroes DON'T do cuddles! But when his busy day is finished, and he can't sleep, he knows the perfect antidote...yep... a snuggle from his mommy. He tells her to keep it a secret because after all what would Grey Shadow think?

The cartoon illustrations are full of emotion and action that kids will love. This fun story encourages imaginative play, friendship, and highlights a beautiful bond of love between a mother and her son. I highly recommend this book.

Very cute, imaginative story about a young superhero who may need his mom more than he's willing to admit. The language, plot, and illustrations are lively and outrageous--there's plenty of energy and laughs. The ending is predictable, but still very sweet. This would make a lovely one-on-one read and could inspire many conversations and "what-if" questions.

A note for US readers: the language is very much UK/Commonwealth English, so several words/phrases may need clarification for young readers.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

This was a cute book that shows kids that no matter what, even if they’re a superhero or villain, that you can always use cuddles from your loved ones.

We follow SuperJoe as he goes off to save his town from tigers, trains, and rivers all while his mom tries to give him cuddles but ultimately settles for giving him articles of clothing that he forgets. Ultimately SuperJoe realizes he could use cuddles from his mom and gives in.

This book is definitely for younger children as it’s pretty simple. There’s a decent amount of repetition which will make the story easier to follow for children. Most of the words are simple and understandable for younger ages. Although, the word “perilous” was included which I thought might be a little hard for the young age it’s intended for.

The art style of the characters was simple but I liked the additional details in the background. For instance, after SuperJoe saves the neighborhood from a tiger we see him at the kitchen table holding a stuffed tiger.

Overall, it was cute and I think small children who like superheroes will enjoy this. My favorite thing about this book was that the mother never forced her son to cuddle with her, she only did so when he asked. I think this was a great way to represent children’s independence.

SuperJoe may be a superhero but he still has to listen to his mother. An adorable story with beautiful illustrations that teach children that even superheroes must follow rules and a schedule. Also teaches that even superheroes can cuddle their mommy. A very sweet story that the smallest superhero would want to read again and again.

Super Joe is the hero we need in our lives right now. He is growing up and is convinced he doesn't need cuddles from his mom anymore because he has important superhero work to do. The world needs him and he's right about that. He spends his time rescuing people around him from the troubles his nemesis the Gray Shadow is causing. However, Super Joe knows how important sleep is to a superhero, and one night when he can't sleep, he welcomes those cuddles from his mother. Get your rest Super Joe and continue the good work!
