Daniela is a pirate who is tracked by a mean witch named Philomena who is miserable and wants to make everyone else around her miserable. She attempts multiple times to thwart Daniela's adventures. This was a fun little picture book with cute illustrations.

Philomena the witch curses all happy people. One day she decides to curse Daniela the pirate. Daniela sets out to find philomena and set things right. This is a great book tobteach children about being kind to others and being able to forgive.

What a precious book! I really loved the charming art style and the wholesome message of empathy and compassion. It's a quick read but terrific for sharing with a small child. An added bonus is that our pirate captain is a girl, we love to see girls in roles of strength and compassion. Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me the chance to read. I'll be picking this one up for my niece.

I loved seeing a girl captain in this colorful pirate story. The book can be used to bring address a group of children where some are being left out. However, the book fell flat for my kids, and they really didn't enjoy it.

We see a witch's cottage in the forest, with its cute but creepy crawlies (including carrots)! It's the Evil Witch Philomena. You'll know this witch by the striped cat draped over her head instead of a pointed hat. Philomena is not an average witch, we're sure if it!

Two questions come to mind: Why does she look for happy people to curse? And, why does she wear a cat for a hat?

A new face appears in the crystal ball! Daniela is the captain of a cheerful band of pirates, on the good ship Black Croc. So far, she is unaware of the unhappiness and disaster being created by the evil witch. But she will soon discover that an evil witch can push a happy pirate too far!

This is a delightful book with a simple story. And we find out why Philomena is mean, but not about her choice of hat. It has a happy ending for all, as I suspect the other Daniela the Pirate books have, so it's not a spoiler.

The creativity of the story and illustrations set this book above others with a similar message, and the "cheerful pirate" theme is playful and adventurous!

I would recommend this book to anyone aspiring to be a good pirate. It would be a great story for bedtime (or any other time), and a welcome addition to a cherished collection.

5/5 Stars

I loved that each page that something to look at and definitely kept your attention. A really fun adventure for everyone. I loved at the end the witch was happy and made friends, Its always a nice thing to include everyone. This will be a book we will be adding to our collection.

If your child is a fan of pirates and adventure I’d recommend this to you! I’d double recommend it to you if you’re looking for a girl pirate. Most of the children’s books I’ve seen have the main character as a boy so having Daniela be the captain was a nice deviation from the norm.

We follow Daniela as her crew tries to find the source of the mishaps happening around the world. They end up finding Witch Philomena who hates happiness, smiles, and laughter. In the end, friendship wins out and our pirates offer friendship to our witch.

It was a cute little adventure that I think younger children will enjoy. The only thing I wasn’t that big of a fan of was when Daniela broke Philomena’s crystal ball. The story tells us that the crystal ball gives Philomena her powers so they break the ball to take away the power but later we see Philomena starting the wind again. So there was really no point in breaking the crystal ball and I personally didn’t think it fit well for a book that was about friendship and kindness.

The illustrations were quirky and fun, I think children will enjoy looking at the details on each page.

Again, a cute book, and those who like pirates will probably enjoy it.

This was a fun children's book about Daniela, the pirate ship captain and her crew who are hit with wrath of Philomena the witch. The story is simple but has a lesson in forgiveness and inclusion. The illustrations are colorful and detailed. There are lots of items that can be discovered within the art. Overall, I would recommend this fun adventure story.

Thank you NetGalley and NubeOcho for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was very cute! It was pretty apparent where it was going, but I'm 35 and probably not this book's target audience. I loved the other books about Daniela, and this one is no different. I am a total sucker for quirky art, and these books fit the bill. Lots of nice Easter eggs to look for in the pictures, and a nice ending about acceptance and feeling included.

Thanks for the advance peek! Can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy!
