I really wanted to like this book. The Golden Age contains many literary references, conversations about the language, and the diversity of the rainbow. Eve Morton brings a lot of knowledge to this story, and I think it overwhelms her.

I love Sebastian's emotional journey. This book is more about his journey and life than romance. I liked the bond between language, memory and the spirits we carry.

If it was listed as an LGBT fiction, I probably wouldn't be reading it, but I love romance. I think if I had had Sebastian's trip I would have read it. I love debates. It was just too much information, even for a geek like me, and I was constantly frustrated because I had prejudices about what this book would be.

I really liked this one!! The struggle between going home to your family and staying where the people have always known you as you truly are really hit home for me.

This was an okay read. I didn't love it and the writing style didn't work all that well for me, it seemed a little simplistic and the flashback scenes/backstory just felt so out of place.

Still, it was an interesting plot.

I had to put this book down because the writing style felt very simple, yet sporadic. The story was very much told like "I did this, and then I did this, and then this happened so I did this, and then I did this, etc etc." There was nothing in the writing for me to get intrigued by, as it was told so linearly. I also couldn't keep track of the characters to save my life: for such a large cast of side character I felt as though only about half of them were given good introductions and background to the point where I could actually remember who they were.

Overall this story was just a struggle to get through, and I couldn't continue when I have so many other books on my shelf that I need to get through.

This was a decent read. The characters were likable and it had an interesting narrative. However, the writing seemed choppy in places and I struggled to follow the plot at points. I also didn't think it was all that engaging or well-placed. I did however really like Sebastian as a character as well as some of the side characters which is mostly what kept me reading. There is also an over-abundance of page time used on talking about Shakespeare which seemed slightly excessive.

Overall this was an okay read for me and I'd consider reading more from Eve Morton.

Thanks to Netgalley for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
