If you are looking for a really lightweight beach read, this book might work for you. But, I found myself cringing frequently while listening to the audio version. The narrator has this breathy, sugary voice that gives the impression she wants everyone to be excited about every little thing. At times, the book seems like something the author was paid to write, in order to promote all sorts of eateries in the town, complete with directions for how to get to each one. There is way too much emphasis on food (especially donuts) and not enough character development. Characters are stereotypical and shallow. And, the story line is very predictable, with little mystery as to the killer. It doesn't seem very well researched either, as these PIs seem perfectly comfortable with blabbing all about their cases to anyone. I would not recommend this book.

I was interested in reading this book because I have never read any Pamela Kelley books, but see them everywhere. I liked that this was an audiobook. The narrator was great and it was entertaining throughout. I loved the food descriptions as well! If I had any criticism, it is that I feel like the ending was a little rushed. I was hoping there might be bigger climax...maybe on the boat? I wanted the book to last a little longer to build the suspense. I did enjoy the characters and the majority of the storyline! I finished reading in one day. A good summer read.

Great beginning of a new mystery series by a talented writer. Plymouth Undercover is a cozy mystery that you can curl up on your favorite chair with a warm blanket and cup of tea. The characters are fun and quirky. The mystery well rounded with lots of possible suspects and twists.
The aspect of a mother and daughter taking over the investigation firm reminds me of the Darrow and Darrow mysteries on Hallmark. In fact, this story is written a lot like a Hallmark Mystery.
I enjoyed the small town atmosphere and the details of the setting. As Mick, the retired investigator imparts his years of wisdom and experience to Emma, they work together to solve the mystery and Emma learns how to solve a mystery.
The audio narration was well done.
I found the ending a delightful surprise. I'm definitely looking forward to more of Pamela Kelly's new series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It was a light mystery wrapped around a community in New England where Emma has moved back home after her father passed away and left his private investigation business to her and her mom. She had worked with him a bit when she was younger and knows somewhat what to do but the biggest asset is Mickey, the 80 year old part timer who is also a retired police detective. They work several small cases with cheating spouses and skip traces but then land the big one. A young woman has gone missing and her mother wants help finding her. They are just starting on the case when she turns up...murdered. They think they are done when her mom decides she wants them to continue looking into it. This one kept me guessing and we are not sure right up to the end who the killer really is. This was my first book by this author but definitely not the last. I enjoyed this one in audio and the narrator was perfection!

Plymouth Undercover by Pamela M Kelley is the first book in a new series, Court Street Investigations. Emma is 30 years old and has spent the last ten years in Los Angles, trying to establish an acting career. It never took off and when she returned to Plymouth for her father's funeral and discovered he had left his private investigations business to her and her mother, she decided to give it a try. She had always loved helping him, her career was going nowhere, and she didn't love Los Angeles, so here she was. She had rented a little cottage on the beach from a friend of her dad's and was learning how to do surveillance on people from 80-year-old, Mickey, an ex-cope who had worked part-time for her dad and had decided to stay with the agency as long as they wanted him. Their agency mostly did insurance fraud claims and gathering evidence on straying spouses. She was enjoying it so far, except for eating too much junk food.

Emma was bright and curious. She had also inherited from her dad a propensity to walk a little too close to the edge. Mickey was an old man but full of energy and happy to have something to do. He is quite the character and constantly guiding Emma with care. Her mom, Cindy, is happy to just run the business part of the business. The victim had already been missing several weeks by the time Emma moved back to Plymouth. Then, they discovered her body when it washed up on shore. It was now a murder. The victim's mother had hired them when it was a missing persons case, then asked them to hold off when it became murder. When the police were hitting a wall, she asked them to start up again. It was a good mystery, and a good investigation. Mickey is smart and Emma is learning quickly. It was an advantage that she was new in town.

Leslie Howard was the reader for this audio version of the book and she did a fine job. The only criticism I have is that some, not all, of her female voices sounded the same, which made following a conversation a little challenging. All in all, I enjoyed the audio version.

I was invited to listen to a free audio version of Plymouth Undercover by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #plymouthundercover

Plymouth Undercover is a cozy mystery with a spin. When Emma McCarthy's father dies he leaves his private investigation business to Emma and Emma's mother, his ex-wife. He also leaves them 80 year old, Mickey, an ex-cop/detective to assist them and teach them the business.

Their first case is a missing lawyer whose mother thinks the local police have put the case on the back burner. Shortly after they start investigating, her body is found and the police step up the investigation. Unwilling to completely give up the investigation, Emma accepts a temporary position at the law firm where the victim, Nancy Aldridge worked.

Thoroughly enjoyable story and so different from most cozy mysteries. I received a review copy of this audio book from NetGalley and the publisher, Piping Plover Press. The narrator, Leslie Howard, did a great job and the story kept me interested until the last page. Mickey is the perfect teacher for Emma and her mother, Cindy, a yoga teacher who will handle the office at the detective agency.

I liked this audio book, the story line, and the characters, plus the budding relationships.

This is the first book in a new series by Pamela Kelley. It is a quick read - only 4 hours on audio. Giving up on her Hollywood career, 30 year old Emma returns home to help her mother run their private detective agency. Emma has always had a knack for solving mysteries. She assumed they would have the usual cheating spouse cases which involved a lot of surveillance - basically waiting, watching and eating a lot of donuts. They are hired by the mother of a missing woman to find her. Before they are too far into the case, her body is discovered. They assumed it was now in the hands of the police. However, the mother who hired them still wants them to try and find the killer. Emma is good at her job. A little too good according to the killer. Emma must figure out a way to save herself and prove who is the actual killer or killers.

I ran my cell battery down to 4% twice listening to this audiobook.

The story, which takes place in Plymouth, is very captivating, emotional and heartwarming when it connects you to the main character and her reasons for returning to Plymouth. The narrator spins this tail with plenty of feeling, personality, and change and character to keep you fully engaged and wanting to listen until you find the answers.

The elements of the plot are not only current in mainstream events but also thought-provoking. This engages you into how the story unfolds and grips you with a desire to know how it ends.

Charts full of details in the solving of a murder case this book also has several personal stories running at the same time which only adds to the intrigue.

I recommend reading this book as not only an enjoyable read but also a connection to real life current events and to hope for future friendships.

Pamela Kelly does a wonderful job of keeping the story moving at a rapid pace with you locked into the passenger seat waiting to see the final destination.

A good, quick read with a beautiful setting and loveable characters. It was very short but this didn't stop the story from fully developing nor stop the author from delivering a complete mystery with several possible suspects. Hoping for more in this series.

The narration was well done, no issues.

In Plymouth Undercover by Pamela Kelley, Emma McCarthy moves home to Plymouth, Massachusetts when she inherits a private detective agency with her mother. The new private detectives expect to be dealing with suspected affairs or insurance fraud, but they soon find out that they will be helping to solve a murder.

I listened to the audiobook of this title, which is narrated by Leslie Howard and comes in at under 5 hours which made for a very quick listen! The narration was enjoyable. I liked the story and I felt that the mystery unfolded with a good pace. The way the novel was written made me feel like I was along for the ride and solving the mystery along with Emma and Cindy. I absolutely loved all of the references to Plymouth locations, restaurants, and small businesses. Being highly familiar with the area, this added to the novel and it was fun to read about places where I have visited or dined. It allowed me to picture the story vividly. If this book was read by someone unfamiliar with the area or even just less familiar with local establishments, I'm not sure that it would translate as well. Overall, this was a fun one to listen to, and I'd love to visit all of the different locations listed! This was my first book by Pamela Kelley and it won't be my last.

Plymouth Undercover
by: Pamela M. Kelley
narrated by: Leslie Howard
Dreamscape Media - Piping Plover Press

In Plymouth Undercover, author Pamela Kelley has provided everything needed and then some for an entertaining cozy romantic mystery audiobook set in the historical setting of Plymouth, Massachusetts. Leslie Howard's smooth and engaging narration is a real treat and bonus for listeners.
The mother-daughter team of Emma and Cindy, along with 80-year-old Mickey, are investigative sleuths at Court Street Investigations. It is housed in a 100-year-old brick building overlooking Main Street in Plymouth. Emma has just moved back to Plymouth after a failed career, and Cindy is a widowed yoga instructor whose husband, the owner of the detective agency died two years ago and left the business to her. Mickey, who is well experienced in private detective work, has a passion for doughnuts and pastries to fuel his work.
The routine of infidelity cases and such is shaken up when there is a missing woman case to be solved in Plymouth. The story flows in both mysterious, romantic, and foodie ways as Emma and Cindy meet new people, including some intriguing men. Kelley writes wonderful descriptions of food, whether it's business meeting pistachio nut muffins from a grocery deli, Mickey's favorite peppermint ice cream, or a date night meal with pimento cheese appetizers in a window-view local restaurant.
I enjoyed following these three as they worked to solve the case. I loved Howard's voice in bringing us this story, along with Kelley's detail in describing the day to day happenings. I feel as if I want a job at this detective agency in Plymouth, and will also become addicted to the doughnuts needed to perform the job!

This was a good start to a new series. I enjoyed it and hated when it ended, it was so short! I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley for Plymouth Undercover by Pamela M. Kelley. I’m a big fan of this author, especially her Beach Plum Cove Inn Series. This book about a mother and daughter detective agency is something new from her for me. As usual, lots of food and wine, most especially a whole lotta doughnuts. It’s a quick read with a short mystery, not too complex, very enjoyable. The only negative is it’s very short.
Really liked the reader, Leslie Howard.

What a fun mystery. I didn’t know that was a thing before, but it certainly is now. When Emma inherits her dads PI agency she decides to head home to work there. She’s has had enough of Hollywood and in her mind, it has had enough of her. She is now working with her mother and a wonderfully seasoned, kind retired man who is part amazing detective and part Yoda. They take on a lots of mundane cases (cheating spouses, workman’s comp cheaters and lots that aren’t dangerous), but then at the behest of murder victims mother get involved in a case that has seemingly stymied the police, who make it clear they do not want them interfering. Take a quick journey with them to find out Who done it! It’s a
terrific quick read.

A mother and daughter inherit a detective agency in this cozy mystery. Emma McCarthy has returned home to Massachusetts after failing in her bid to become an actress on the West Coast. There, she learns that she and her yoga instructor mom have inherited Court Street Investigations, along with its employee, an octogenarian former cop. Their first case is a doozy, a missing person that leads to full out murder. This is an enjoyable cozy with an amiable cast

This was a cute quick cozy mystery that was a very easy listen. Emma is back in Plymouth after failing in LA. She takes over her dad's PI firm with her mother after his passing. One of the biggest cases is that of a murder. The cops can't figure out what happened, so they are hired by the girl's mother to investigate further. Everyone was a suspect. I liked how there was a little hint of a romance intertwined with this mystery, but Mickey was the real star here.
The narrator was great and kept me engaged the whole time and she had a very pleasant voice. She was the perfect Emma.
Thank you to Netgalley, Pamela Kelley and Piping Plover Press for an early audio copy.

I have enjoyed several books by Pamela M. Kelley, however, this is the first mystery of hers that I've read. This book has great, interesting characters that made this book fun and intriguing.

Emma's dream had been to be a actress, but after a time of living in Hollywood where she did a few commercials and some small acting jobs, she moves back home to Plymouth, Massachusetts. The recent death of her father leaves Emma and her mother Cindy, the owner of his private detective firm. The firm has one employee, nearly 80 year old Mickey, a former police detective who is addicted to donuts. The cases they handle mainly are suspected cheating spouses, worker's compensations claims and other qually safe situations

Upon arrving back home, Emma is going to work full-time at the detective firm and immedicately partners with Mickey on a surveillance case of a suspected spouse having an affair. Emma discovers this involves a lot of sitting around in the car and eating donuts with Mickey.

Upon the murder of a much loved local resident, the victim's mother hires Emma and Mickey to look into the death of her daughter. She feels the police could use some extra help. A murder case is much different than cheating spouses and worker's compensations claims. This is a delightful, and intriguing story as Emma and Mickey take on the job of tracking down a murderer.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for a this book. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
