This was such a fun read! Franny is having a terrible, horrible, no-good day, and on her way home from being fired the subway doors conspire to destroy her dress! This leads to meeting (read: falling into) a tall, dark (navy suited), and handsome man who generously helps her gather the shreds of her dignity by giving her his jacket. New York City (a character in itself in this book) keeps pushing these two together.

I adored the friendships written into this book. They were genuine and funny, and you were rooting for the friends as well as the main characters to find their HEA. I truly enjoyed the love story of Franny and Hayes - their slow burn was worth the wait! I especially was delighted with Hayes; he feels like a bit of a modern Mr Darcy as a socially awkward penguin, and I am HERE for it!

As someone who has never been to NYC, I did feel a little lost a few times with references to where exactly the characters were, and the inferred trendiness (or lack thereof) of neighborhoods. But it did make me want to go visit sometime, especially to have a bagel and a slice of pizza!

I would definitely give this book 4.5 stars, rounding up to 5! My thanks to Forever for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book!

Such a quick, lighthearted read. It felt very Nora Ephron and effortless. The supporting cast is also nicely fleshed out. 3.5 stars.

If you like romcoms and NYC you need to read this book! The meet-cute is fun. The characters are likable. The use of NYC as the backdrop is phenomenal. Alternating chapters from the perspectives of the protagonists is a great way to set forth the developing romance while allowing a glimpse into each character’s motivations, insecurities and growth. Overall I loved this one and highly recommend it!

As a half-Italian girl originally from New York City, I have to love a book that rhapsodizes about bagels as much as this one does. But, when the main characters bought pignoli cookies, I fell absolutely in love!

Hayes Montgomery the Third and Francesca Marie "Franny" Doyle are opposites. He's a numbers guy. Addicted to routine. Successful. Dresses in Gucci suits. Franny is an artistic type - an interior designer. She just got laid off from her job. She lives paycheck to paycheck and is understandably freaked out about where next month's rent is coming from. She's having the worst day of her life when she steps onto a crowded subway train and her dress rips all the way down the back. Hayes and his Gucci suit to the rescue.

Meet Cute? Adorable!
Slow burn? Yup!
Bagels? Check! Check! Check!
Pignoli cookies? YASSSS!!!

All in all a fun read! Sometimes I wanted to shake the main characters. Hayes thinks too much before he speaks, Franny doesn't think enough. Ultimately, though, they manage to find the right words and get their HEA.

Thank you Forever/Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a digital ARC in return for an honest review.

Franny is having a horrible day and it goes from bad to worse. When her dress gets caught in the subway doors and... well, you can imagine. She's saved from a tragic and unintentional mooning by a handsome stranger who offers her his (Gucci!) jacket without a second thought. What's more, he doesn't give her his name or make plans to have the jacket returned. Franny is stumped (but grateful!) until she learns one of the other train passengers has videoed their almost flashing/jacket covering incident and posted it online. And... it's gone viral. Everyone is shipping Franny and this subway hero as the next great love story.

Hayes is not looking to be in the spotlight. In fact, at one point Franny believes that he never learned how to socialize because he was always "too handsome" ha. But give me a gorgeous, socially awkward, but heart of gold male love interest and I.AM.HERE.FOR.IT. Hayes and Franny continue to run into each other and eventually develop a friendship. They're both dealing with some past (and present) insecurities and have to decide if being vulnerable is worth the risk.

In a New York Minute is a sweet, fun, love story between two people who appear to be opposites, but learn they are much more alike than they initially thought... at least in all the ways that matter. An easy read that included some lovely NYC references as well!

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Romcom holds a special place in my heart. Whenever, in doubt go for a romcom, if you’re sad go for a romcom, if you’re in a book slump, then go for it. And that’s how it is, at least with me. It was so perfectly good, left me here all aching to take a visit to nyc and have my love interest find me asap. The dialogues were quite funny and witty, the story had been engaging till the very last, and I laughed like a pig, almost every now and then. Also, I especially adored the friendship among Franny, Lola, and Cleo and between Hayes and Eleanor. I had a best time reading this. Henceforth, thoroughly enjoyed it!!

In a New York Minute was a totally adorable read - I loved it! It was easy, fun, sweet and funny! I adored both Franny and Hayes and could not put the book down! The NYC setting was SO well done - it really brought me back to my time living in the city and I enjoyed all the descriptions so much! The friendship between Franny, Cleo and Lola was beautiful and inspiring. I really loved how both Franny and Hayes worked to push themselves out of their comfort zones and how beautifully they complemented each other! Can’t wait to read more from this author!

In a New York Minute is a cute story of a couple with a meet cute on a subway and all the shenanigans that ensue. This story follows Franny and her two girls friends living in NYC. Franny is down on her luck having just been fired. She ends up having a an embarrassing, albeit cute, meet cute with Hayes.
This story was a cute and fun read. Solid 4 stars for this popcorn rom com!

3.5-ish stars.

Alrighty! This was a cute little book, that I enjoyed, even if it didn't feel like a standout. I think that fans of Forever35, the popular podcast that the author co-hosts, will particularly enjoy this book. Having heard Kate's (yes, we're on a first name basis, that's how podcasts work) voice in my earbuds for so many hours, this book felt like a natural extension of her, and made it that much more enjoyable.

The main problem that I had with "In a New York Minute" was that it felt very paint-by-numbers. The plot itself was formulaic as can be, and even though I know that that repetition is comforting for some, particularly in a genre that is often used for escapism, it didn't do it for me. The plot felt like it was pieced together from other books, directly pasted in, and then layered over with interesting and dynamic characters. And I genuinely did enjoy both protagonists. Franny was so enjoyable as a point of view character, and I loved the relationships she had with her friends. Their dynamic nature just wasn't enough to compensate for what felt like overall simplistic storytelling. So, overall nothing stand out, but not bad either. I'd pick it up if you're looking for some light reading, with a relatable protagonist, that you don't want to invest too heavily in.

We start the book with our heroine, Franny, losing her job. As she runs on to the subway with her meager box of desk detritus, the doors close on her silk dress, effectively ripping it in half. A handsome stranger offers her his suit jacket to cover up, then he leaves her on the subway. They have not exchanged contact information and Franny believes that she will never see him again.

But we live in an era of pervasive technology, and someone has filmed their interaction, and it soon goes viral, which leads to the two being reunited on a morning talk show. We learn that her morning savior is named Hayes Montgomery the Third, which of course it is. The two immediately don’t hit it off. Their personalities clash, they bicker, they glare and they are relieved when the segment ends, because now, they never have to see each other again.

Except they keep running into each other. And each time they do, they like each other a little more.

I really liked this book. I thought that the slow-growth of the relationship was delightful, and had me rooting for them from the start. That they would run into each other ALL THE TIME in a city like New York was a little unbelievable, but I’ve been told that New York is really like a bunch of small towns stuck together, so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that they would be in the same restaurant. Or that two of their best friends would have met on the set of the TV show and started a relationship…which puts Hayes and Franny even more in each other’s orbit.

The inevitable breakup was where it fell apart a little for me. I understand the structure of a RomCom. There’s the meet-cute, followed by the struggle against the relationship, the inevitable falling in love, the misunderstanding leading to a breakup, and the reunion and HEA. We all know exactly what we are getting before we crack the spine. But the misunderstanding in this one made no sense, and felt forced to me, like the author couldn’t think of a reason to actually break them up that made sense, so just pulled something out of a hat. This is the only part of the book that made me cringe a little. I didn’t think that any of it made sense within the boundaries of the characters that we had gotten to know.

Overall, though, a strong effort, with a funny, quirky supporting cast, and an obvious love of the city that never sleeps. I will be looking forward to more from this author.

This was a very cute story - not very original, but very cute. The New York setting reminded me a little of "you've Got Mail," so that made it even more enjoyable. There seem to be a lot of contemporary "Cute" romances being published nowadays, and this book is a great, enjoyable addition. I did think the characters were a bit flat, but other than that, I had no real issues. A perfect, light, r0mantic read!

What a delightful world to escape into. Franny was an engaging character and I was rooting for her as she worked to overcome her viral hot-mess moment. This would be a great fit for readers who like a slow burn, light steam/closed-doors, romance. It has very classic rom-com vibes and the New York City setting adds to that charm.

I was instantly hooked by this book! I have been a fan of Kate Spencer's writing for years and was excited to see she had tried her hand at fiction. I loved the way New York City was depicted, and I loved the friendships Franny and Hayes had that added to their lives and stories. I was very charmed by Spencer's sense of humor and the slow burn romance between Franny and Hayes.

Franny, hurrying home after getting fired, gets her dress stuck in the subway door. After it rips all the way up the back, Hayes, a stranger on the Q-train gives her his Gucci suit jacket to cover up. In an Insta-worthy capture, their story gets shared on social media, trending as #subwayQTs. Their meet cute isn't left to die, however, as they keep bumping into one another.

⭐️⭐️💫
Genre: contemporary romance
Location: NYC
Reminds me of: You've Got Mail

I was really into this for about the first third of the book. Their meet cute being portrayed as a love connection it was not caught me as a silly start, and I loved the next time several times their paths crossed. There was a bit of a grumpy-sunshine vibe in this first third and I kind of loved this awkwardness for them. I also loved Franny's group of girl friends - they balanced each other so perfectly and made the story lots of fun!

However, as the story went on, it just seemed to fall kind of flat for me. Their characters weren't well-developed enough for me to get invested in them, and their relationship not only lacked steam but was missing a sense of intimacy in general. I wanted them to get together, but once they did, the rest of the book didn't really interest me much. I wanted to love this one but it really didn't capture me.

Hayes and Franny have a unique meet-cute on the subway that goes viral. From that moment we can feel Hayes stepping out of his comfort zone when Franny needs someone. Franny’s world is in chaos. What comes with meeting Hayes adds another brick to a very emotional load.

This is what I love about this book. The reader can feel the reticence, discomfort, relief, apprehension and a gamut of emotions that roll off and uncommon hero and endearing heroine. Hayes is a vulnerable hero whose uncertainties make him seem unapproachable. Franny has a charming lack of filter that gets through to Hayes and draws out his humor.

The memorable secondary characters and I want to see these two together. The humor is intelligent and organic. The story will pull your heartstrings and have you reading long into the night. I’m so glad I received an advance copy of this book to read.

This was a fun book. I loved the premise of main characters trending on social media. I loved Hayes, identifying his awkwardness. I will suggest this to library patrons.

In short: From a memorable meet cute on a subway to working for each other to falling in love.

What to expect:
🗽Laugh out loud, cringable meet cute on the subway
🗽Opposites attract
🗽Great friendships
🗽 Slow burn

My thoughts: This was a cute ode to friendships and New York. Franny and Hayes could not be more different. After a memorable meeting they continue to run into each other and Franny is eventually hired by Hayes as an interior designer for his company. I really loved their banter, the awkwardness, the laugh out loud moments and the slow steam, slow burn romance.

I've been to NYC many times and In A New York Minute by Kate Spencer made me want to go be a tourist all over again in the big apple. I felt this book was a rom-com movie waiting to happen. It was a You've Got Mail meets When Harry Met Sally story. The meet-cute is always a hit in my opinion and this book has it! This is a book where the reader gets invested. Even when I finished the book I wanted to know more about these characters. I have a feeling this is going to be a huge hit!

This book has what I like in a romance in that the woman is not all hot and heavy for the guy. And they don’t end up having sex in the first six pages. This is one of those slow burns, but since we know it is romance, we know it will follow the usual pattern, girl gets guy, girl loses guy, girl gets guy back. The only variation, of course, is how it all happens.

What I liked about this also was that Franny doesn’t try to even kiss her client, until he is no longer her client. Good boundaries there.

And yes, it is a meet-cute moment, in this case, Franny tears her dress down the back on the subway, and Hayes gives her the jacket off his back, to allow her to get home in dignity.

What I dont’ understand, and perhaps it is a thing with romances is why the guy is always wealthy and more often than not, successful.. Of the last seven or so that I’ve read, that is the case. I guess that is why I like ones that are multicultural, as they tend to break those rules, and give me a more well-rounded relationship.

But this was a fun ron-com, and I did like the main characters, as well as the side-kicks.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest romance.

A solid rom-com that delivers humor, heart and lots of romance, this is a fun novel. I personally liked the slow development of the romance and I also greatly enjoyed the depictions of friendships and other relationships. My main criticism is the conflict at the end between Franny and Hayes which seemed too severe. That plot line and Franny's quick dismissal of Hayes seemed abrupt and drastic after the forty eight hours they had spent together (even though she was dealing with guilt and worry). I realize it was a plot tool and necessary for the conclusion but would have preferred it to be handled differently. In fact, there are other coincidences that occur (and are often a part of rom-coms) which I accepted and had no problem with. Overall, this is an entertaining and purely fun book!
