I absolutely LOVED this book! Most times, I find it takes a few chapters before I’m really invested in characters or the plot. This book, however, had me laughing out loud (and almost in tears from laughing) within a mere chapter of the book! Our main character, Franny, is such a breathe of fresh air. She’s relatable, funny, and you just can’t help but cheer her on throughout her journey. Her friends are equally as enjoyable and it’s so refreshing to read a story where characters can be different in all kinds of ways yet still really be there for eachother and have each others best interests at heart. Everyone could only wish they had friends like Franny’s. Hayes is another main character that you go on a journey with wondering, just like Franny does, if you really can like this guy or not! This is one of those rare books that keeps you interested, laughing, rooting for ALL the characters, and makes you want to come back and re-read it time and again…..like a good ‘ol favorite!

I enjoyed this book. It was a fun light hearted read that was a quick read for me.

Franny and Hayes were fun characters but I what I really connected to where Franny’s relationship with her friends. That’s felt more real to me than the main relationship in the book and those scenes were the ones I loved the most.

My other favorite part of this book was the fact it was clearly a love letter to NY and as someone who loves the city and hasn’t been able to visit in a long time it was lovely reading those parts of the book and getting a sense of being there.

The main relationship between Hayes and Franny was a little too slow burn and not quite steamy enough for me but I would still recommend it for someone looking for a fun, light read.

Such a cute rom-com! The beginning instantly hooked me and had me laughing out loud with the train scene. Loved the New York setting. The characters were all relatable and some very funny. And overall, the story was a quick, easy read!

Unbelievable meet-cute but a fun quick story. I especially liked the secondary characters and hope the next book follows one of them.

This book was such a delight! I loved all of the characters, and the story was complete escapism. I was rooting for Hayes and Franny the entire time, and particularly loved the female friendship element to the book. Highly recommend if you need a light hearted, quick read!

This book was too predictable and too cute for a mature reader. I think younger audiences will enjoy it more than I did.

I appreciated the author’s effort to diversify the cast of characters.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

As a faithful listener of Forever35, I mostly entered into reading this book in an effort to support Kate, but I was very quickly absorbed into the plot and so impressed by this book. I shouldn’t have assumed any differently upfront, but I was so blown away by the complexity, relatability, and likeability of all the characters in this book. A classic New York meet cute leads to a sweet and fun love connection. I love that Kate didn’t feed into any of the tropes you run across - crazy or mean or evil ex girlfriend, etc etc. The book is inclusive and progressive and I just loved it. Go Kate!

When I first saw "In a New York Minute" I figured it would be a cute romcom but it was so much more. The lead character, Franny, is laid off from her job (when she was expecting a promotion). She thought her day couldn't possibly get worse until a wardrobe malfunction on the subway involving a cute man goes viral.

This was such a delightfully sweet story with amazing characters. Hayes and Franny were awkward, funny, and completely relatable. It was a total slow burn. I loved that they would both get tongue tied and flustered around each other. Their witty banter back and forth had me laughing out loud at times. This book was a great example of how to write a friend group with interesting dimensional characters even though they were supporting characters. Hayes and his best friend, Eleanor, exhibited a comfortable professional/personal dynamic. Franny's best friends were unabashedly supportive yet honest. Another noteworthy character in the story ended up being New York City itself. Spencer was able to show the charm of the city with her beautiful storytelling.

Overall, I adored this book; devouring it in one sitting. I would rate it 4.5 stars rounded to 5. I can see myself reading this again as an endearing comfort read. Thank you to NetGalley, Kate Spencer, and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This book was an absolute delight to read from start to finish! The main characters (and supporting cast!) are relatable, engaging, and had me smiling throughout the story. I appreciated that their relationship wasn't "insta-love" but seemed grounded in mutual respect, friendship, and compatibility. This was a quick, fizzy, delightful read and I will be recommending it to all the rom-com lovers in my life!

Side note: As a longtime Forever35 listener, I found myself hearing the author, Kate Spencer's, voice coming through these characters and it made me smile even more.

In A New York Minute was just what I needed to get out of my reading slump!

What I loved:
-NYC will forever be one of my favorite cities for a book setting
-the friendship storylines were equally as endearing as the MCs romance. I wanted to be sitting on a NYC rooftop drinking wine & eating bagels with Franny, Lola, and Cleo
-all of the supporting characters. there wasn’t a single person I didn’t like & I felt they all brought something to the story
-an adorably embarrassing meet cute on a subway
-the things Franny would blurt out had me laughing out loud
-the romance between Franny and Hayes was awkward yet adorably charming

If you enjoy romcoms with sweet meet cutes & a romance that just seems believable/relatable then pick this book up! Fair warning: there is no steam (which is usually a no go for me) but I still loved it!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Forever for my ARC of In A New York Minute!

I couldn't put this book down. For a modern day romance, it was pretty great. I could relate to the characters and was invested in their relationship. I liked the side characters too. The book was overall well written and was really a page turner.

This rom-com had so much to love. I think my favorite part was the friendships between Franny, Lola, and Cleo and between Hayes and Eleanor. This “meet cute” was a total cringeworthy disaster when Franny after being laid off has the subway rip her entire dress down the back. Hayes offers her his stylish suit jacket and they are awkward until he leaves and they think that’s the end. Luckily another passenger instagrammed the whole thing even giving them a cheesy nickname. Overall I enjoyed this one but I did think it was a little too slow burn for me. I also really didn’t like the traditional dramatic barrier to their relationship and felt like it didn’t fit for me.

I highly recommend it. Franny is a designer having her worst day ever. She loses her job, and on the way home her dress gets caught in the train doors and rips down the back. Hayes comes to the rescue loaning her his suit jacket to cover her. A passenger filmed their “meet cute” and posts it on Instagram and they go viral. They appear on a local morning show and when they see each other again the meeting is awkward. They part ways but end up running into each other at different places. Hayes eventually hires Franny to design his company’s new office space. Things progress from there but not without a few obstacles. In the end they are perfect for each other. Very cute story and I really liked the characters

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Forever and #NetGalley for my honest opinion.

I wanted to love it but I didn’t. I had a difficult time getting into it, connecting to the characters. They lacked depth to me. I found the cousin and best friends more interesting than the MCs.

Such a fun and lighthearted read. Franny and Hayes meet during a mishap on the subway and life, as you know it, brings them back together. Their love story is sweet and warm and real. I have never been to New York, but this book made me want to go even more than before! Heads up for a somewhat-intense moment of intimacy. Hayes and Franny are a lovable and hilarious couple -- their banter and text conversations are so fun to read and give you firsthand the butterflies that come with a new flirtationship. I also loved Franny's relationships with her friends and the mini sub-plot of her extended family as well. Absolutely loved this book -- Kate, please write more soon!! Can't wait (:

Many thanks to Kate Spencer, Forever (Grand Central Publishing). and NetGalley for this ARC!

The first 80% of this book was cute. And then the author created a lot of unexpected and unnecessary conflict when it felt like the story had been wrapped up nicely.

Overall, it was a cute story and had the backdrop of New York which I always love. It’s a quick read - I read in two days!

Franny thought her day couldn't get any worse than when she gets the news that she is getting laid off. Well, she was wrong, because it just got worse on the train ride home from the office. In the midst of her crisis on a train, a handsome stranger comes to her rescue and she leaves not knowing his name or how to get in touch with him. But as fate would have it, the people of New York will bring the two together, whether they like it or not.

This was a very cute rom-com and I was hooked into the story from the very beginning. The meet-cute between Franny and Hayes is awkward, funny, and the stuff that rom-coms are made of. It had me smirking from the silliness of it. I was very impressed by this debut fiction novel by Kate Spencer! Her writing is fun, humorous, and makes you get lost in the story and in the setting.

Franny and Hayes are both so awkward but cute! It's refreshing to have two main characters that aren't polished and who don't know the right thing to say. Sometimes I feel like romance novels are filled with too many perfect people with their perfect bodies and perfect smooth talk. Don't get me wrong, I like that too! But this book has two main characters that I felt like I could relate to. They felt like real people who make mistakes and second guess everything, just like me.

I really enjoyed the scenes with Franny's two best friends: Cleo and Lola. They are crazy, wild, and hilarious. The close relationship they had and how they dropped everything to be there for one another was heartwarming.

Pick up this book if you're looking for a cute and funny rom-com!

This book was a love letter to New York. To the magic that can be found there in the small moments and details, and how that magic looks so different from person to person. It touches on how the new can co-exist with the older, more historic aspects of the city and still have the same energy NYC is famous for.

"In a New York Minute" is so sweet and maintains the light hearted and trope filled energy of some of the most famous rom coms of the 80s-90s (Moonstruck, When Harry Met Sally) while still managing to stay fresh by incorporating some more modern story elements. There is a clear theme that carries as the story develops between the main characters, and even the city itself seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to bringing these characters together.

Through a series of fated run ins, it seems that Franny and Hayes can’t stop bumping into each other in the most hilarious ways. But love is messy, and things aren’t as clear cut as they may first appear.
I loved the development of these characters and how lovely it is to see two unlikely people figure out how to navigate life together when life doesn’t turn out quite as expected (and throws some crazy curve balls!)

I have read so many books recently where it feels like the entire story is a slow burn to romance and you only get to experience the main couple be happy together for a chapter or two at the end. It was so refreshing to feel so much happiness for the characters through so many parts of the story, the pacing felt perfect! I ended up loving these characters so much and I think many readers will too!
