Something about this book just didn't connect with me. I found the characters flat and didn't feel any chemistry between the romantic leads. And I didn't feel invested in the story at all.

In A New York Minute by Kate Spencer is the perfect summer beach read or summer picnic read preferably in Central Park. I loved the entire rom-com meet cute through the ending. The characters were well written and complex and I loved the treatment of all the side characters including and maybe especially Lola, Perrine and Serena. I would love this to be a movie.

As much a love letter to New York City as romantic comedy, I can see why so many readers have given it a 5-star rating. I always appreciate a book that can make me laugh, and Spencer nailed the feelings, emotions, and excitement that you feel just before a relationship becomes official. Unfortunately, I didn't love the third act conflict, and I felt like it detracted from the sweet romance that transpired up until that point. Overall, IN A NEW YORK MINUTE was a fun read that made me want to pack my bags and visit the city (and its unlimited possibilities). Although I gave it 3.5 stars, I would still easily recommend it to those with an affinity for romances filled with stellar friendships and themes of finding oneself. A huge thank you to Forever Pub and NetGalley for the complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

PS, if you are an audiobook fan, the dual-POV is narrated accordingly, and it was extremely enjoyable!

This book and plot line had a lot of potential. Their meet cute and the ripple effect after was fantastic. Ultimately, I didnt feel a lot of chemistry between the two characters. I did love the friend group and the heroine in general. I thought the banter was okay but ultimately I just wanted more from this.

When you don't think your day can get any worse but then it does! But when that bad day launches you into what could be the love match of a lifetime is it really the worst day after all?

The first chapter had so many inconsistencies I couldn’t continue reading. I dreaded the problems for rest of the story.

I wanted to like this one more than I did. I liked the characters but it felt like it was trying to hard to be this epic New York romance and just didn't get all the way there.

In a New York Minute is a romcom about Franny a down on her luck interior designer and anal businessman Hayes who meet disastrously one day in New York City and accidentally go viral because of it. Two strangers meet awkwardly on the subway and fall in love, what’s not to like?

Many things. First while the couples meetcute was initially funny and really intrigued me the plot of this book really goes nowhere after that. I think that the author spent way too much time trying to get the reader to fall in love with New York and not enough time developing the “love” between Franny and Hayes. This book is also incredibly slow paced; the couple doesn’t even get anywhere close to being together until well over 70% into the book. The character development also just wasn’t there for me. Both Franny and Hayes’ in ability to communicate was both irksome and tiring. Like really, why was it so hard for adults to just say what was on their mind? I do not think I ever have read more awkward love story.

Overall, this was an disappointing read.

This book opened with a hilarious and memorable (disaster) meet-cute, and it quickly felt like a future comfort reread. I both read this and listened to the audiobook, and I immediately recognized Neil Hellegers from Cara Bastone’s Audible Original “Call Me Maybe” which added to my feelings of comfort.

I agree with other reviewers that this is a good fit for fans of classic rom com movies, but I think that doesn’t give the full picture. I was very happily surprised by the diversity of supporting characters, especially the multitude of queer rep. I can’t personally vouch for all of the representation but as a queer Jewish reader, I am not exaggerating when I say that I flipped out at the introduction of Franny’s sapphic Jewish best friend.

Storywise, this really hit the right spot for me. With our main characters’ meeting going viral and all the attention that followed, this was larger-than-life in a way that felt vivid and entirely realistic. These characters had flaws, career aspirations, workout habits, close friends, and nuanced family relationships - all elements I love to hear about in my romances. Through it all, their chemistry and path to end up together was utterly charming. We got a little bit of steam and open door action, and we also essentially got a secondary romance in addition to our main couple!

I hope this is made into a movie someday. If this author writes more books, I will definitely want to read them!

CWs: secondary character parental death of ALS, MC loses job, MC with very public embarrassment on the subway, MC with unknown biological father, divorced MC, surprise pregnancy of a secondary character

Wow! I loved this book. This was a love letter to New York life and a fantastically sweet romance. It was a fun and entertaining and I loved the relationship between Frannie & Hayes grow.

this was a cute one, I feel like it was a little short for all the plot points in it (secret family feels like a book of its own, not a second plot point in a romcom, but that's just me), but overall it was sweet and entertaining and I loved how messy the main character was.

Book Review: ***/5

This book has been on my TBR pile for so long (Let's be honest, the list never ends.). I received it as an eARC from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. It was so easy to fall in love with the characters and their meet cute was just so funny. The author did a great job of letting us see both of the main characters thoughts and points of view.

Franny has just had the worst day; she has just gotten laid off from her job. It can't get much worse right? Wrong! While riding the subway home her dress gets caught in the subway door and ripped right off her back and now her butt has gone viral. However, so has the meet cute with the gentleman who lends her his very expansive jacket to cover up. However, it's not quite the instant love that the media is making it out to be and somehow, they just keep running into each other.

There wasn't just one thing I can point out that I didn't like about this book. It just doesn't quite make it to a four-star read to me. There are a few side stories within this book that seem to just slow it down a little bit. I loved the plot and the characters, and I feel that it is worth the read.

I was excited to read this book. Unfortunately it didn't do it for me. How many times does a hero and heroine have to spill something on each other every time they met? Great meet cute, but in terms of characterization, neither of them were nailed down. I fell. more in love with NYC than I did with Franny and Hayes.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

This was a cute little romance read and a love letter to New York! I binged this over the course of an evening and definitely enjoyed it!

Things I liked:
-the meet-cute was funny and had me chuckling!
-Hayes is darling. I adored his character and the growth he had over the course of the book! He was a different kind of MMC and I appreciated that!
-the friends! This book has a great friend group!

Things I thought were okay, but not necessarily my cup of tea:
-the side plots, especially Franny’s. It just felt a bit weak to me and a bit disjointed from the main story.
-Franny’s manic pixie dream girl/I’m not like other girls vibe. Maybe she wasn’t really written like this, but when compared to Hayes that’s how she came across.
-the millennial vibe that’s the life blood of this story. I’m a millennial, it’s just not always my favorite to read about.

All in all this was a cute book! It wasn’t the best I’ve ever read, but I think if you like cleaner romances, New York City, and millennials finding themselves and falling in love them this one is for you!

I’m glad I had a chance to read and review it, thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the gifted E-ARC

This book was so cute and easy going!
I love books set in NYC and this did not disappoint.

I really liked all the characters and the friendships they had all created.
I wish there was an epilogue!

Two words come to my mind when I think about this book: cute & modern. I really enjoyed reading about Fanny’s journey in this book and was hooked from the first page. This book is highly relatable for millennials and I think that is what drew me in – of course, this does not count the ripped dress on a packed subway… I hope that isn’t relatable to too many of us!

One thing to caution: there were parts that were very predictable in this book. But, this isn’t meant to be an edge-of-your-seat read. Rather, it is a feel-good romance that follows quirky set of people through their love journey in NYC. There were parts that literally had me LOLing, as the characters and dialogue were so developed and real.

I loved this book SO much, I wish I had read it sooner. Immediately when I started reading it, I knew I was going to love it. Right from the start I was laughing out loud, and it continued through the whole book.

The meet cute in this book was SO cute. Franny and Hayes couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. Yet it worked out so perfectly. I thought they had a great connection together. I enjoyed all the characters in this book. I thought Franny and her friends were so fun. I loved their text messages together, and how much they were there for one another.

Overall, I really enjoyed this big city romance book. I thought it was perfect, and exaclty what I needed right now. It’s a quick and easy read that you’ll fly through. It is a closed door romance, but with enough tension, that it didn’t need to be open door, which I enjoyed. If you’re looking for a great romance read, I highly recommend checking this one out!!

This was a new author for me-I decided to read it after seeing some positive reviews, and I was going to see her speak at a local bookstore. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to come but I am really glad I picked this book up. The premise of their viral meet-cute was fantastic-great dialogue, fun characters, interesting job and a believable break up.

Unfortunately, I had a hard time finding my rhythm with this one. I had very high hopes for this rom-com based on the setting and meet-cute alone, but for some reason it just fell flat for me. I had a hard time feeling connected to our main characters and didn't feel much chemistry between them throughout the novel. The story did pick up slightly around the 70% mark, but I still felt mostly indifferent about the romantic culmination.
