What an adorable story! Housecat Trouble by Mason Dickerson is a beautiful story about a little housecat. The artwork is vibrant and engaging, and the story itself is sweet.

Housecat Trouble is an adorable story about finding bravery and protecting what you love most. The cats are fun and sweet, especially as their friendships develop. The monsters are silly and creepy with just enough menace to keep the story exciting. Housecat Trouble is perfect for grade schoolers who love animal stories and graphic novels, kids in the 8-10 year age range in particular will adore the sense of humor.

I shared this review on my Goodreads page.

Housecat Trouble is the first book in this graphic novel series.
It is perfect for older elementary school and younger middle school age children.
Vividly colorful the art work is simplistic but I do believe with all the action the book contains it'll keep the attention of children.
An indoor housecat is alone but doesn't have a chance to get lonely as he meets two street cats who fill him in on what to look out for, house spirits.
What ensues is the three cats having the time of their lives and getting in some crazy and hectic situations. Will this scaredy cat who is used to being a pampered indoor kitty be up for the dangers of crows, monsters and more and be able to return home unharmed in time for dinner?
Cute,clever and recommended!

We are a big graphic novel family and while the illustrations in this book were great the story was a bit of a flop for me.

If you're familiar with Binky the Space Cat, think of this book as that for a slightly older audience. Buster is a regular housecat, largely interested in when he will be fed next and afraid of most everything. He is wholly unprepared to face the creatures that begin to take over his house. Those creatures may be difficult for a young reader to understand. If you pay attention to the details, though, it becomes clear that they represent darkness and depression. Badness in the life of humans. We then interpret this plot as saying that it is the job of cats to keep people engaged with the world and happy. Since it can be read on a couple of levels it will grow with a reader to a degree.

Buster is a yellow kitten, and after his human goes away for the night, he finds out he has big problems! Purple blobby problems with round bulging eyes, that grow and combine!

Fortunately, two outdoor cats know just what to do--for a price. Chauncey and Nova are hardened street cats with nerves of...tough cats! Buster is young and afraid. Will he learn to be brave and strong in time, before it's too late?

This is a graphic novel style comic recommended for ages 7-10 years, however, it is written with older readers in mind, touching on some subjects that are more mature (though not objectionable). I would say ages 12-25.

The story is original and clever, but the street cats talk and ramble longer than is interesting or funny sometimes. It could use some editing there. I also didn't appreciate the crude humor.

I've seen this style of illustration before, but I had trouble finding the eyes of the cats in some panels; the style leans heavily toward oriental cat depictions, which I found more repellant "in action" than cute. (My personal opinion.)

I enjoyed parts of this book, but I felt the "spirits" deserved a better send-off (I felt it was a missed fun opportunity) and some sections dragged.

2.35/5 Stars (See above reasons.)

Who can resist a cute kitten? Not me. Even though this is a children's book, I couldn't resist.
It's very well written, and the illustrations are fantastic in my humble opinion. Not hyper-realistic or so odd you can't tell it's a cat.

Buster, the kitten, is so sweet in his adorable innocence of the world past his own front steps. When he is warned that his house has spirits, he doesn't understand but it scares him badly, especially when he realizes the spirits could harm his human.
Enter 2 street-wise strays whose job is to fight the spirits that took away their home and humans no matter the cost.

Taking Buster, they show him a side of life he would and hopefully never know, testing his bravery and loyalty to his human.

If you or your child like or love cats, you need to buy this. It's just an enjoyable read for anyone. It was published February 22, 2022

What is one housecat to do when the human is away? Buster plans to doze the day away when his human goes on a trip, after leaving him lots of food. Then spirits come and boot the kitten out of his own house. Two ghostbusting strays need to come to the rescue and teach Buster how to stand on all four feet.

I read this with my daughter (11) and she lived it. She really enjoys graphic novels and loved the artwork as well . Shees read it a few more times since so I'd say it's definately a winner !

I read this with my eight year old daughter and she thought it was cute. It was fun reading about how the cats saved the humans from the evil spirits while they were away.

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

I thought this was a cute book with a good sense of humor. It may be better as a print book than digital: the art style was overwhelming at times.

Housecat Trouble by Mason Dickerson is a children's graphic novel currently scheduled for release on February 22 2022. Buster has only one job: keep the house safe. Too bad he is a massive scaredy-cat. When his owner goes away and he suddenly finds his home filled with monsters, Buster has the biggest challenge he’s ever faced. Can he learn to be brave before his owner gets back?

Housecat Trouble is a cute graphic novel. I liked the artwork and found t to be fun and bold. I think it will capture and keep the attention of middle grade readers. I will admit that from the cover and description I thought this would be for a younger audience, but is definitely for the middle grade crowd. Buster makes friends, faces his fears, and has an adventure. I like that the friends grow and learn too, the character growth is not limited to Buster. There are evil spirits, questish moments, sweet moments, and some silliness. It is an interesting and entertaining read. I liked that a page on drawing your own cat was included at the end of the book, that might further engage interested readers.

This is a cute graphic novel about a cat named Buster who has to help his owner by ridding his house of monsters. With a little help from his new friends Chauncey and Nova, he goes on the adventure of his little kitten life! From not being "allowed" to leave the yard, the helping his friends escape a pack of stray dogs, he learns more about the big world around him. All the characters are great (Crouton the Crow is my spirit animal) and I hope we get to see more from them in the future!

It was ok. I liked the main cat but I thought the story a little far fetched. I’m not crazy about the artwork.

This is a fun graphic novel that is perfect for the middle grade crowd, especially the ones that love animals [and monsters] and are also looking for stories to remind themselves how to be brave and how often its better to work with others to fight off those things that scare you the most. A very cute story about being brave and making friends. The illustrations were initially off-putting for me, but they grew on me and by the end, I really enjoyed them and found them fun. Kids of all ages will really enjoy this one.

This is ultimately cute, but provides nothing particularly new or exciting. I would say I'll recommend it to my animal-loving customers, but all kids love animals, and there are plenty of more developed, engaging stories for kids.

This graphic novel was adorable. House kitten, Buster, meets street cats Chauncey and Nova who help him on a quest to rid his home of a colony of spirits that are harming his human. I love the subtle way this book touches on important topics such as mental health, friendship and discovering one's own inner strength. Both heartfelt and humorous. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this series.

Buster is a kitten who spends his days being spoiled, watching tv and snacking whenever he wants. However, recently his owner has been acting oddly and now strange stray cats are telling him his house is haunted by evil spirits! Even worse, his owner has left overnight and Buster is home alone! It is up to Buster to be brave and fight off the evil spirits before his owner returns home, and he might find out a little bit about strength, friendship, and the outside world from a wise stray named Chauncey and his companion with cattitude, Nova. Housecat Trouble is funny, wholesome, and heartwarming (why do the crows have to be evil, though!). I can't wait for more adventures with Buster, Chauncey, and Nova!
