I always love the uniqueness to Wilson's books and they keep me turning the pages quickly! This was another one that did not disappoint!

This book was different, in a good way. The story intrigued me and had some interesting twists and turns. A single dad wins the lottery in the day his wife is buried …what follows is an intense, dark novel with plenty of surprises and interesting characters. A good read for a rainy day when you can curl up with a blanket and really get into a book.

“The New Neighbor” written by Carter Wilson, is a very fast paced psychological thriller! On the day of his beloved wife’s funeral, Aiden Marlowe finds out that he has won the lottery. In efforts of making a fresh start, he and his two young children move away from home into a mansion. Soon, mysterious and threatening letters begin to arrive at their house. As Marlowe begins to investigate, he becomes increasingly unstable, blinded by paranoia and grief, leading to having lapses in his memory.

I really enjoyed this thriller. I did not know who to suspect! I had some ideas and was proven wrong over and over! I love when a thriller keeps you guessing. The characters were also very enjoyable and I loved the pieces of Irish culture that is entwined. Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book!

The New Neighbor
A Thriller
by Carter Wilson
Aidan holds the winning Powerball numbers.
Is today the best day of his life... or the worst?

Aidan Marlowe is the superstitious type—he's been playing the same lottery numbers for fifteen years, never hitting the jackpot. Until now. On the day of his wife's funeral.
Aidan struggles to cope with these two sudden extremes: instant wealth beyond his imagination, and the loss of the only woman he's ever loved, the mother of his twin children. But the money gives him and his kids options they didn't have before. They can leave everything behind. They can start a new life in a new town. So they do.
But a huge new house and all the money in the world can't replace what they've lost, and it's not long before Aidan realizes he's merely trading old demons for new ones. Because someone is watching him and his family very closely. Someone who knows exactly who they are, where they've come from, and what they're trying to hide. Someone who will stop at nothing to get what they want...

I received an advance copy for my honest opinion. Thank you to NetGalley and Carter Wilson. With that said, it was a good book. Not great. It did not seem thriller I just did not find it easy to get through. Slow, I am sure many, many people disagree.

This was a great book, sometimes difficult to read at all the stuff Marlowe gets into, but overall a very good read, very believable. A thoroughly twisting plot. It makes you wonder what you would do if you won the lottery and would it be worth it? Do the choices we make define us?

We all wonder about the new neighbor when they move in. But do you do some online to do some sleuthing to find out the background of them? Well poor Alex is not sure who but someone knows an awful lot about him and his family and want a little slice of the life he has been able to carve out for him and his children. Reeling from the death of his wife but his winning of millions he moves to a new quiet town in order for them to start fresh. But sometimes we can be our own worst enemy.

Definitely a downright horrifying novel!
It has suspense, mystery, mental health issues, family, death, and at the very end - Hair-Raising Fear as you read the last 15 percent of this book!
I honestly screamed out loud during the last chapters. It was that intense!
I won't retell this family's trauma-- But Know This-- You will be absorbing this novel quickly!

I loved the shorter chapters. It gave me time to reflect on the horrors before moving to the next page.
Anyone who loves psychological suspense will surely love this one!
Thank you to NetGalley and #poisenedpenpress for my lack of sleep!

I love a suspenseful domestic thriller. Unreliable. Lucky yet unlucky. Aidens wife dies and he wins the lottery and buys a mansion for him and his twins. Then the threats come…

Wow what a rollercoaster of suspense! This is my first book by this author and I love his writing style. Wilson creates characters you’ll fall in love with and weaves a mystery you won’t forget.

Domestic Thriller with twists - Aidan Marlowe is both lucky and not. Following his wife's death he wins the lottery and takes his tens of millions of dollars to a mansion in Bury, New Hampshire. Once there, he and his twin 7 year olds begin to receive threatening letters unsigned.

Aidan isn't sure where to turn but asks for help from his lawyer, the police chief and finally his dad. The suspense builds as more and more

I give this 3.5 starts... I love the premise and love the beginning but so much just didn't tie in. Even the title doesn't makes a lot of sense unless Aidan is a neighbor to someone else? Some of the details seemed superfluous at best like his Irish roots and the personalities of the twins who remained somewhat unfinished in personality. It was good, but it wasn't great.

Still, it was suspenseful and twisty and you will not guess the end. If you like a domestic thriller starting a male hero, this is for you!

I was able to read an ARC of this book (coming out in April 2022!) and flew through it. I love a good neighborhood mystery, and it was a nice change to have a paranoid, unreliable male narrator instead of the usual unstable female. The chapters were all short and ended with cliffhangers, making it impossible to stop reading. I didn't love the main character and the ending was pretty anticlimactic, leaving me with several unanswered questions, but overall a good read that I couldn't put down. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this one early!

Suspenseful. Short chapters making you want to read the next chapter.

Our main character is an unreliable narrator. Our author also mentions this in his notes at the end of the book. In the middle of the book, you wonder how much of this is supernatural, with ghosts and other woo-woo factors.

The ending, ah, that explains some of our questions. But one big mystery wasn’t really solved, or was it?

Thanks to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for letting me read this book.

This is an intense and well written thriller. It delves into some difficult topics such as mental health, death and loneliness.
At times, I struggled with this book and it took me longer to read than usual.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable read.

I feel pretty bad saying this book wasn’t for me. Apparently it’s a very well known author. I just couldn’t get on either the main character as he just didn’t ring true and I couldn’t identify at all. Sorry not for me. It is well written. It is pacy. Just not my style.

Carter Wilson once again shows what a great thriller writer he is. I loved this book. It had that Hitchcock feel to it. Great atmosphere. Aiden questioning his own sanity. Lots of misdirection, making it hard to guess who was behind the threats and blackmail... All the ingredients for a fun addictive read!

I will start with my star rating: 3. You may at first think, okay this is probably a pretty solid book with a 3 star rating. However, you have to understand the reason I am giving it that “high” of a rating is because I was so invested/interested to find out what exactly was going on. The author;s writing style was definitely captivating and leaves you at the end of chapters with a dangling carrot out in front of you Another thing he did was he would have super short chapters mixed in, I love that~So definitely snaps for the author for doing his job of keeping me entertained. But……….then the actual book happened. Should I start with the good? Okay.
The premise of the book: Aiden Marlowe’s wife dies, he wins the lottery, moves his twin kids to a mansion in Bury, NH, weird things happen
Suspensful I really wanted to know what was going on with the house and missing family that previously occupied the home.
Now the bad/irritating. The main character is so messed up! Yes I understand he lost his wife who he was madly in love with (apparently) but he is self destructive, narcissistic--he does not consider his 7 year old children in this whole situation, he treats them like they are adults, I wonder if the author has kids because some of the things the kids say/do/act is not what a seven year old is capable of (final scenes...seriously??) , Aiden/Marlowe (another weird thread throughout the book, he insist on being called Marlowe, not Mr. Marlowe or Aiden, Marlowe.) (By the way I am just writing down my thoughts as I type, please do not read this as a well planned/outlined review) Now there is his dad, Da (which is what I call my grandfather) but his Dad comes over to help and again weird relationship there, it is very cold/distant. Not quite realistic. Another weird relationship is Maya--she is Marlowe’s lawyer turned lover--uhh so awkward and weird. I almost feel like Carter Wilson wrote this book in a room all by himself and only imagines what relationships/people are truly like. These characters are so not real human beings in my opinion. BUT I KEPT READING, so obviously I wanted to know what happened.
Back to Marlowe, he has these weird visions that are super violent and graphic about his children being murdered/mutalated, talk about off the hinge. It is clear he is super unstable and part of the twist is that he is an unreliable narrator, but I mean come one people I picked up on that on page 20 I think. So I think about 75% into the book I was on bard with this book, but then in dragged and dragged and I was like okay PLEASE END. What is the “big reveal” well Scooby Doo episodes where they “demask” the bad guy are more exciting than this ending. Such a build up for such a fizzle ending….I will leave it at that.
MORE ABOUT THE ENDING: Umm...What? Please look at Holly Westbrook’s review---I am in TOTAL agreement with what she said--the MAIN question I had was TOTALLY NOT ANSWERED….Maybe because I read this as an ARC it is missing some chapters??? I really hope so….because otherwise….what was the purpose of the book except we learn that our MC has eaten wayyyy to many bowls of CoCo Puffs (crazy).

Thank you NetGalley & to the publisher Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review - always very appreciated! (less)
