Violeta by Isabelle Allende is a beautiful historical fiction that takes the reader through a woman’s lifetime of one hundred years and has it all!
Violeta Del Valle is a fascinating woman that experiences and sees so much having being born at the pivotal time of 1920. We get to see through her eyes and thoughts as she looks back on her life in South America and beyond while growing up and her life experiences as shaped by her family and her surroundings.
This book is epic in the fact that we get to follow along not just for the monumental and earth-shattering personal and societal changes that She experiences, but also the “everyday” things: love, loss, family, friendships, hopes, and dreams over the span of a century.
The author is extremely talented in giving us rich visual images that jump off the page in regards to landscapes, cultures, customs, and at times you can feel as if you have been transported to another time and place. The complex characters that are designed for this multigenerational family saga are also stunning. They are real, raw, honest, and fascinating.
I have been a fan of Ms. Allende for quite some time, and this is a wonderful addition to her impressive portfolio.

I fell in love with this book when I saw the cover, so beautiful, and when I read the book description, I was sold.
“Her life will be shaped by some of the most important events of history.” You see, I am a history student. I fell in love with learning the history of the world when I was eleven years old, and since then I am obsessed with books that shows different moments of the world history. And how the history can shape someone.
Violeta is a book that felt very real to me, that show how history can be cruel and beautiful and how the world is always moving and you have to move with it. My experience with this book was amazing, the story was bittersweet and yet full of hope.
If you’re searching for a story that it’s full of heart, then Violeta is perfect for you. I loved it.

This book is destined to be another classic from this wonderful author! The scope of the book, the depth of the characters, and the interwoven multi-generational story was such a special read. I was sorry to see it end and thoroughly enjoyed it!
