Sleep is overrated. You'll quickly discover this once you start reading the dazzling debut from Emma Haughton. The Dark is a perfect example of an atmospheric thriller. You'll feel the icy tendrils of the Antarctic Night envelope you as you enjoy this riveting read. Haughton deftly captures the desolation of the frozen continent. The Dark also benefits from the international cast which populates the Antarctic Station where the action takes place. Haughton's characters come with foibles which make them unique and interesting. The pacing of the book is pitch perfect. Simply, The Dark is tremendous. Brava! Thank you to Mobius Books and NetGalley for the advanced reading copy. #TheDark #NetGalley

A thrilling tale of murder and adventure on a base in Antarctica. Kate flies in to the base to replace the former doctor, Jean Luc who has died on a mission. From there, the twisty turns of the novel are compelling until the conclusion.

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

The plot sounded so interesting but the mystery was flat and took so long to develop I had long since stopped caring. Not even an entertaining guilty pleasure

The author did a fantastic job of putting you in Antarctica and imagining the cold, desolate, dark landscape. It really added to the trapped with nowhere to go setting of the story. Some parts of the story - like being stuck in unfamiliar territory on the cold, dark ice with no lights sent a shiver down my spine.
I really enjoyed the mystery and figuring out who did it. The only drawback was the ending seemed a bit rushed and the climax was tied up within 2 pages. I just wished for a bit more at the end.
All in all, a great book that I finished quickly.

Amazing thriller, the best one I have read this year. It a locked room sort of mystery thriller, with inclement weather and characters that you will love to hate. I highly recommend this one.
