A really interesting starting book for those want to work with or get an introduction with spirits and how to possibly work with them and an idea about them.

There're some interesting ideas and there's food for thought. I don't always agree with the author but this helped me to reflect and try to find my way.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have a bit of mixed feelings on this book. I have read plenty of books dealing with spirits, ghosts or other such beings. There is a part where the author said their is an afterlife but heaven did not exist. I am not sure how I feel about that. There was some sections in this book that did not seem to go together. There was a section of this book that gave me an uneasy feeling. It was where the author talked about helping spirits crossover. I understand this is done, but I think it was oversharing on the personal information if the facts are true.

This book definitely had some interesting information about communicating with spirits. I think it was just a little too advanced for my baby witch self. I am nowhere near talking to or interacting with the spirit world yet, and I think if someone were to try they might get themselves in trouble.

No one is more disappointed in this rating than me. I was so excited to read this book because I work with death deities and felt that I could learn something from a new perspective. Yet this felt disjointed and unsure at times. Most of this book is UPG written like fact. I started to really get annoyed with this book around the 35% mark. The author goes into great length to explain the after life; saying that everyone experiences it in their own way, then describing exactly the different levels of the afterlife, then says that the traditional “heaven” doesn’t exist. This perplexed me. Because while I don’t imagine heaven in the Catholic sense, surely someone who expects to go there would imagine their afterlife in the traditional pearly gates type of way. I began to simmer down my feelings as the author talked about the ancestors and had many good prompts on how to work and focus on a connection with them. And while I feel like talking about the claires is basic discussion points it is important for a refresher every so often and those as well had good exercises. But then the author starts talking about the souls they helped over to the afterlife and shares their personal stories. I can’t speak to their own UPG, but if it wasn’t fiction it felt exploitative. I felt that there had to be another way to get their point across without going into another’s personal details. Over all I was left deeply unsatisfied, because I really thought that my only critic was going to be the use of the term “smudge” because by this point the author should know that’s a sacred indigenous practice and smoke cleansing is the most accurate term.

This book is an excellent introduction to working with spirits and includes not only a lot of guidance for getting started but a lot of advice for what to do when some common problems arise. It is heavily western chakra-based but many of the techniques could be modified.
Growing up in the Spiritualist Church most of the topics discussed in this book were familiar to me. However, it offered a new and interesting perspective and I appreciated hearing about how people from other traditions navigate the guiding of and communication with spirits. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in this work even if you think you lack a natural talent and especially if you feel overwhelmed as to where to start.

This book is remarkable an probably the best one I have read in a long time. The reason it is so special is it answers so many questions that I have had. Not only answers but gives ways to see for yourself! The scope of this well written and easily understandable book is just right. From the time we all die we are going somewhere we all hope! Maybe some stay here? Maybe some go to heaven or other places but how does anyone know? I loved the explanations of where the author believes we go because it is consistent with much I have read in other books and religions. However the most interesting explanation of death I found was the one about what some wiccans believe happens when we die. I ad never heard of the rose castle and after reading about it I am intrigued with its concepts. The title is also shamanic in its nature with a focus on the three worlds and the possibilities of visiting them to help or see a loved one. I really believe this book breaks new ground and opens the way up for intelligent discussion amongst those curious about death. I feel better about my own passing after reading this.
