It's finally time for Marcus to get his HEA.. After being stripped of his titles Marcus, decides to make his own way to the world and find a purpose. He becomes one of the best eye doctors, which is what Lady Louise is looking for. Having cataracts and being submitted in painful operations with temporary results, she decides it's time to find a new treatment which is what Marcus can do best.

I could say that this books is divided in two parts. At the beginning is more slow burn, and we get to watch Marcus and Luisa gradually falling in love. At the second part, things escalate quickly, it becomes more adventurous until the end.

This is the 8th and final full length novel of the series and the second one I've read. Like Book no7 it's standalone and it's not difficult to follow if you haven't read any other book. Sophie Barnes gives you all the information you would need. She also did an amazing job describing Louise's problem and surgery (it might disturb some readers).

I really enjoyed this book, I finished it in one day and I definitely recommend it. I received a free copy from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion

I quite like this book even though I had some issues with it. The writing didn't always flow as smoothly as I would like. But it wasn't really a big hinderance so I'm not complaining too much. I also quite liked our two main characters and the discourse this book had around eye surgery and blindness at the time. I thought it was all very interesting and integrated well into the story. It never felt like reading a history book, which I appreciate. I also thought the two main characters had great chemistry but I didn't fully like their romance. I think they fell in love very intensly very early into book but then it takes a really long time for them to actually get together. I'm not really saying they should have gotten together earlier because I understood what kept them apart but maybe if the two of them got together earlier to talk about their feelings and about the possible future of their relationship rather than silently pining over each other whilst not interacting. That just was a bit boring to me. I also think the ending was a tad too dramatic for me to really enjoy but it wasn't terrible.

This was a book and half really loved and half didn't care for. Overall, it is a wonderful storyline to a point and well written, has some excitement and lots of drama. The intimate scenes are well done with nothing too vulgar or explicit.

The first half of the book, I really enjoyed. The author did her homework and research for this and it shows. It was fascinating to read about treatments for the eye at this time period and there are lots of facts thrown in. I liked Marcus's character and loved how he became a true example of working hard for what you want in life, not having things handed to you, and that working hard you feel more accomplished when you overcome that obstacle. I enjoyed the slow burn romance and thought the tension was well played.

What did not work for me was the last bit of the book. The kidnapping scene fell flat and has been so overdone in many other novels, I felt it out of place here and cheapened the story for me.
I also never felt or liked Louise's character. I think she was made too young and the dialogue she spouted didn't seem to fit for someone who had grown up so pampered and sheltered. Even when she did give up title and riches for love, I never feel that she "got it" or what that meant. And then to have it all given back to her, I was shaking my head. She was spoiled, and I had to agree with her father when he mentioned that she gave her love and attention to whoever was her hero at that moment. I sadly did not see a future for these two, I didn't believe in their love.

I do recommend this book for a nice enjoyable read but I personally do not feel it is one of Sophie Barnes' best.
I received an advanced copy in exchange for a review.

The writing style in this book is excellent and very easy to follow through. I also loved the character of Louise because she's so adorable in her own way and as someone who has problems with her eyes, I really kind of relate to her situation. The only thing that I kind of don't like is how the character of the hero is written and the lack of chemistry between the main characters. Their relationship and feelings for each other aren't satisfying to read and I wished we get to read more about them before they got feelings for each other.

This book was ok. By itself, the romance was rather lack luster and formulaic.
On the other hand, reading about the eye surgery was very interesting. I consider this to be a clean romance.

This was a sweet book about two people that overcame great odds to find a happily ever after. Louise has lost her eyesight due to cataracts, and Marcus lost his title because his father committed murder. He became an ocular surgeon as a trade. How they overcame their obstacles to true love was a great read.

DNF at 65%.

I know once you get that far you probably should just tough it out but I. Was. So. Bored.

This spoon fed historical fiction stereotype lines at me for 150+ pages until I could take no more. Yes, your reputation is vital. No, you can't make decisions because you're a woman. Yes, I'm your prejudiced, arrogant, controlling father and you'll do as I say. No, I'm not good enough for her even though I love her more than anything. Ruined. Forbade. Deserve more. Over. And over. And over.
Also, everyone spends most of the first half of this apologising for an imposition or forgiving someone for that imposition AND THERE IS NEVER AN IMPOSITION AND IT'S STATED SO REPEATEDLY and I. Just. Can't.
I know what the author was trying to do. I know where they wanted the story to go. I appreciate the forefront of medicine concept and the taking control of her own damn life moments. But holy. Good. Lord. This was NOT engaging for me. Which is such. A. Shame.

2.5 disappointed stars. I didn't even make it to the steamy bits to see if they could save this for me because honestly I don't think they could've.

Everything happens in the beginning, the characters meet and the chemistry begins to change their ways and their minds slowly, it is not love at first sight but the first time they meet is remarkable.
.
Then I realized that I was not in the middle of the book and there was a lot, too much chemistry between them and I thought that nothing more exciting could happen but I was wrong. I just couldn't stop reading it, it's far from my understanding how Sophie Barnes can create such good characters in such a well-researched context, it makes the number of pages relative to the immenseness of the book
.
Louise and Marcus are drawn to the coincidences in the opening pages and go through various situations before getting to understand each other.
.
Louise suffers from cataracts since she was little and each treatment generates a painful brief fix, shortly after meeting Marcus she goes completely blind which leads her to ask for his help to undergo an operation that seems to be her only hope of having a normal life and be capable of pursue the dream of marrying the man she has been in love with for years
.
Marcus is not only a great renowned ophthalmologist but also a man condemned by society because he is the son of a disgraced lord after murdering a man and meeting his death by hanging. Shame and social condemnation haunts him wherever he goes regardless of his good deeds or good character. Louise has to choose between following her father's advice and suffering painful treatment or risking social condemnation for enlisting Marcus's help and being capable of choose her own path
.
Both are beautiful characters and come to maturity through the book to become a beautiful love story, slow burn, great and passionate dialogues are some of the excellent elements of this Regency Romance by Sophie Barnes
.
Thanks to Sophie Barnes and Book Buzz net for give me this beautiful book in exchange for my honest opinion

I received "The Dishonored Viscount" from Netgalley. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Sophie Barnes is a unique author whose ability to tell stories is mesmerizing. I was on tenterhooks the entire time I was living and experiencing the characters' lives. The medical intensity, the mutual unattainable attraction between Marcus and Louise.... Wow! Sophie Barnes has encapsulated the meaning of earning your reward and for a couple to support and cheer the other on.

Louise has always had trouble with her eyes and now, once again, she needs be couched to restore her vision. This surgery is painful and does not seem to last. Louise has a hefty dowry and even though she is treated as someone having a disability, her long-term crush, Mr. Fairfield, finds her attractive since she can help his financial situation. Marcus has been shunned in society since he is the son of a murderer. He needed to find a profession and an income and is now a renowned eye surgeon with a technique that may permanently help Louise’s eyes. Her father forbids her to be in the company of Marcus, so she manages to go away and meet him at the home of her sister-in-law’s parents for the surgery and a month’s recovery. During the month, Louise and Marcus fall in love. I enjoyed meeting both Louise and Marcus and watching their relationship strengthen. The story has adventure, devotion, and two people who care about making lives better.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Dishonored Viscount is a beautiful, haunting story that I didn’t want to end. This book takes you on a journey of struggle, hope, and all-consuming love. It is an excellent example of forbidden love and undeniable passion. This is a book that brilliantly displays the powerful healing qualities of love.

I must first disclose a warning, this book contains a graphic description of painful surgery. Marcus Berkley has been stripped of his title and ostracized due to a heinous crime committed by his father. Marcus has pulled himself from despair to become the foremost doctor in eye surgery. Lady Louise has struggled with her vision since childhood, always knowing complete blindness was a possibility. Going against her father’s wishes, Louise goes through a complicated surgery performed by Marcus that could save her eyesight. A passion and tender love develop through this ordeal that ignites the page.

I admired how Marcus didn’t wallow in what he had lost; instead, he made something productive of himself. Marcus’ desire to heal and his unselfishness and acceptance of his past resonated with me. Louise was an outstanding, quietly fierce character. Her willpower and determination were awe-inspiring. Louise withstood pain and anger stoically and with grace and kindness.

Marcus fought his instant attraction to Louise for what he considered her good. Marcus loved Louise so much that he couldn’t subject her to the scorn and hatred he faced from society. Louise’s unfailing belief in her love for Marcus took my breath away. The passion and love the couple share are genuine.

The plot unfolded perfectly at the right pace and with emotional depth. My attention was caught in the first chapter. The couple’s journey was perilous. However, the story was intimate and written with loving care. The Dishonored Viscount is the eighth book in the Diamonds In The Rough series. This story is a sweeping tale of how the power of love can withstand all obstacles. Although tragic and fraught with peril at times, the grit and determination of the couple were fascinating. This book left me breathless. I enjoyed the struggle and redemption qualities of the book. This book is a fantastic read that touched me on an elemental level. This is a story of how sacrifice can lead to undeniable love. I recommend this book wholeheartedly; get ready for an intense, gratifying read!

After his father's crimes lead to the loss of the family's titles, former viscount Marcus reinvents himself as an eye surgeon. When wallflower Louise loses much of her sight to cataracts, he recommends an updated technique to permanently restore her sight. But her father insists on following the old ways, which can lead to relapse. Besides, he wants nothing to do with a man whose family has been disgraced.

Louise, however, is desperate for a cure. She's already suffered through three painful surgeries. But her father's opposition to Marcus becoming her surgeon is nothing compared to his fury at the prospect of Marcus becoming her husband. Can love prevail before Louise is forced to marry someone else?

This is the final book in the Diamonds in the Rough series, which I loved. I've been waiting for Marcus's story, so I was glad to see him get his HEA in this one. The author has done a great job of incorporating information about the state of medicine in the Regency into the series without turning the novels into research papers.

Marcus and Louise are relatable, good-hearted characters caught in bad situations outside their control. Both behave with a sort of quiet nobility that stands out among the nobles behaving badly all around them. This is a high-tension story with plenty of twists that make it impossible to put down.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

An enjoyable story. I found it easy to read and finished in one sitting. I enjoy this authors writing style and I would continue to read books by the author.

I really enjoyed this book. I have not read the previous books in the series so there were references and characters I couldn't fully appreciate but that didn't take away much at all. And I do plan on going back and reading the rest of the series when I can. This was a really interesting premise and I haven't seen anything similar to it. I really enjoyed the way the relationship developed as Marcus cared for Louise. I really felt like Louise's character development was authentic and realistic, Marcus's a little less so. Though a lot of his development had happened before the story actually started. But the wrapping up of his individual issues felt a little rushed at the end. But overall, I really enjoyed it and will be going back and reading the rest.

Another winner! Wonderful characters and even though book 8 in the series, can be read as a standalone. Marcus lost everything, his title, lands and more due to the fact his father was hanged for murder. The Ton has given him a direct cut for his father’s crime. This doesn’t bring Marcus down, but makes him more determined to reinvent himself. He goes to University in Edinburg to become a ophthalmologist. Returning to London he finds employment at St. Agatha’s, but always on the outskirts of Ton affairs. Because his sister is married to a Duke he is obligated to attend her ball. Seeking a breath of fresh air and hiding from the invited guests he meets Louise who appears to be talking with a frog.
Louise is hiding, she is pitied by the Ton, consider handicapped, imperfect only because of her eyes. She has cataracts and has have several couching. The pain of surgery and the recurring cataracts also has cause her to have a fear of losing her sight. When at a ball her sight fails her, Marcus comes to her rescue.
The story is interesting in that one learns how eye surgery was and thank goodness it has advanced from that time period. The bravery of Louise who is determined to live life on her terms and to the fullest.
Thank you NetGallery for this ARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story.

A lovely read, but I did expect more. The story of two great people who finally get together, I felt it was slow at times and lacked the chemistry and energy. Nice read, but doesn’t make me want to read the other books in the series.

I really enjoyed this book and the journey the MC's took. The medical information was interesting and presented throughout the book in a way that didn't take from the main story. I loved that Louise found her own voice and realized that love is more than someone coming to your rescue. Marcus was your typical male who thought he wasn't worthy and wanted better for the woman he loved. I just thought the whole story was lovely and a nice read.

I adored this lovely novel by Sophie Barnes, and I am especially grateful that this ARC showed up in my Netgalley inbox few days ago. The last book I tried reading put me off with it's coldness. By comparison, The Dishonored Viscount sucked me in instantly and held my attention for hours.

Louise, Lord Grasmere's youngest child, is 20 and perilously close to being on the shelf. In spite of a healthy dowry, her failing eyesight (cataracts) is seen as something that makes her a less than desirable candidate as a wife. When she learns that Marcus Bently is a gifted opthalmologist who has helped close to 100 people with her same disability, she finds hope for the first time.

Unfortunately, Marcus is the son of a viscount hanged for murder several years earlier. Marcus, by association, is shunned by society. Rather than giving in to despair after the hanging, Marcus turned his ostracism into something useful; he moved to Scotland to study medicine and has since become the best opthalmologist in London.

Louise has to have the surgery and deal with the recovery in secret as her father has forbidden her from having anything to do with Marcus. Their sojourn to Dorset (to the home of her sister-in-law's parents' house) provides ample time for falling in love. Of course, true to the trope, they are star-crossed lovers who have a lot to overcome if they are to be together

I loved both Marcus and Louise. Yes, Louise is young (13 years younger than Marcus), but her struggles with her sight have required her to develop a greater maturity than her flighty peers. She recognizes that her feelings for Marcus are special and is determined but not stupid in what she is willing to do for them to be together. Marcus is dreamy; he's a gifted surgeon who spends Saturdays flying kites with orphans rather than whoring it up around town like his former ton buddies do. He respects and admires Louise, which in turn makes me respect and admire him. Intimate scenes between them are fairly simple; they are passionate and in love, but a lot is suggested rather than spelled out for the reader in detail. The detail is not missed.

I wish I'd read the previous novels in this series, and I need to go back and check them out. And I will definitely be picking up more Sophie Barnes in the future.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!
