Very few authors are so good that I don't even read the book synopsis I just know it'll be good. And Sophie has done it again! With the ability to make you laugh out loud and deeply feel for the characters all in a few pages, this is another truly beautiful work of art.

Effie's parents divorced 18 months ago, and her father has moved on with a new woman named Krista. But Krista has done nothing to endear herself to the family. If anything, her underhanded ways are tearing them apart. After being loosely "invited" to the house cooling party at the family home thats now being sold, Effie chooses not to go. However, after realizing she's left a treasured childhood item in the home, she comes up with a plan to sneak in and retrieve it. With her siblings Gus and Bean and her childhood love Joe the only ones in the know, instead of just finding her dolls, she also finds love. Love from both her family and Joe.

In true Sophie Kinsella fashion, what seems such a simple storyline turns into a long awaited love story and a tale of family redemption with just the right amount of laughs thrown in for good measure. Hands down a five out of five star read. Unfortunately, you have to wait until October 12th to pick this one up.

I can always count on Kinsella for a thoroughly enjoyable reading experience, with both laugh-out=loud moments as well as pathos, and this was no exception. I think this is one of my all-time favorites of hers. 4.5 stars!

The Party Crasher follows the story of Effie has she says goodbye to her childhood home in a very uncomfortable way. Two years following the announcement of her parent's incredibly shocking divorce, Effie's family is in shambles. She hates her father's new girlfriend, she's barely speaking to her dad, and her beloved family home is being sold. To top it all off, Effie has not been invited to the last celebration in the house.

However, Effie decides to go on a mission to recover some precious family heirlooms while the party is happening. What follows is a dramatic and quirky story as Effie sneaks around the house and finds herself witness to members of her family unguarded. This is a story of a family in flux, an old beau who Effie may not be over, and what happens when you finally find yourself growing up.

It always feels like Christmas came early when a new Sophie Kinsella book comes out, especially if I get an advanced copy (thanks Negalley!). I love the characters, the setting, the dialogue, all of it, and this new release is no exception.
Effie is the youngest of three siblings in what she thought was a happy family. When the family falls apart and Effie can’t quite find her footing again, she ends up trying to sneak into her own family home during a big party (hence the title).
As with Kinsella’s other novels (ok, besides the Shopaholic series, those are not my favorite), the characters are lovable and flawed and real; their interactions are funny, heartfelt, and honest; and the pace of the dialogue and action is easy to read and keeps you going. I wanted to see Mimi’s artwork on the kitchen cabinets and was sad right along with Effie when they disappeared, and I could picture Effie hiding in the rosebushes. I dove into this book and didn’t resurface again for about 24 hours—always sorry when it ends.

It's been a long time since a book captivated me like "The Party Crasher" did... and this is what I get for starting it at 10:30 at night! Not only did I finish it in one setting but I also couldn't sleep after I finished as I was still thinking about Greenoaks. The way that Kinsela describes this "ugly" old house makes me desperately wish for a movie to be made.

The characters were beautifully written and developed. I loved how over the course of the book, we saw the warts and flaw of the characters come out and Effie's perfect ideas about her family changed. It showed the reality of life and that nobody is perfect and we all have our own demons.

The ending was absolutely perfect and while it wasn't what I initially wanted to happen, it left me satisfied with a smile on my face.

I really enjoyed this sweet story of a woman saying goodbye to her family home and coming to terms with her family changing. Sometimes touching and plenty of humor, this was a great read.

I love Sophie Kinsella's book but this one just didnt do it for me. The main character was whiny and immature. I expected more but i couldnt even finish this one.

This book was a fun and lighthearted read that I was able to finish in an evening. Effie's world was rocked a bit when her parents announced a divorce, her dad got a new girlfriend, and ultimately, her childhood home was sold. With tensions high between her and her father's girlfriend, Krista, Effie finds herself without an invitation to the "house-c0oling" party that Krista has planned. Totally fine with Effie until she remembers one household item from her childhood that she wants to save before the movers arrive. She decides to sneak in and out during the party, but things don't go as planned. To me, this story was light and funny and whimsical and a fun escape.

I have been a long time fan of Sophie Kinsella and had been missing her works. When I was granted access to this early copy I was so excited and the book did not disappoint. In fact, I did not put down and stayed up until 2am to finish! This book follows a family of 3 adult children and how they handle their parents divorce. Effie, who is the youngest of the bunch has the hardest time, especially with getting along with her fathers new, younger, selfish girlfriend. The majority of the novel is set around a party to say goodbye to the family house that was just sold. Each child has mixed feelings but Effie opted to not attend. However, she did have plans to sneak in and grab her russian dolls from childhood. As you can imagine, this leads to Effie sneaking around the house and hearing things she probably shouldn't. So many twists and turns and laughing moments even around the hard topic of divorce. The book of course comes full circle and leaves you smiling in the classic Kinsella way.

Honestly, I requested this ARC on a whim the moment I saw the author was Sophie Kinsella without even reading the synopsis because that was, like, an instant-read for me. Then, once I started, I just couldn't stop because it was so captivating and fun as a novel and as a women's fiction novel specifically.

This book, honestly, feels different from her other straight-up romance books, as this is more about familial drama and individual growth. Despite its differences, Kinsella stays true to her style and delivers compelling language that has me hooked and curious from the jump. So much so that I really didn't want to put this book down and ended up devouring it in a single sitting. This book reads quickly and the hijinks of hiding/not getting caught juxtaposed with the vulnerable, heartfelt family dynamics and adorable first love/second chance trope makes a completely unputdownable novel. Plus, that epilogue was so darn adorable and precious that I'm still smiling just thinking about it.

I don't often give out 5/5 stars, but this book earned it because it's so well-written and captivating, and I just loved it. Truly devoured it. Like, wow, there aren't a ton of books like this one, and, yeah, I just wanted to root for the whole family so much. Each character is so authentic, realistic, and vulnerable like real-life people are. Bravo, Bravo.

Super cute story for those looking for a holiday themed, dysfunctional family adventure.

Effie is having troubles - newly unemployed, sadly single (and potentially pining away for an ex), she very much dislikes her father's young girlfriend and the many unwelcome changes she has made to his life. Effie and her father's girlfriend have embarked upon a passive aggressive war in which Effie declared that she would never step foot in their home again. Learning through her sibling that there will be one last party at their childhood home before sale, Effie decides the only way to save some of her possessions is to crash it.

Thus follows a series of madcap events as Effie sneak through the home and eavesdrops on the party goers. Will she find her possessions? Will she ever learn what happened with her ex? Will her father forgive her? Read this lighthearted rom-com to find out.

This is not my usual read but I did enjoy it quite a bit. This is a perfect addition to the modern romance genre and the family craziness adds interest and humor. Recommended ! Thank you to @Netgally and @RandomHouse for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another great book from Sophie Kinsella! The Party Crasher was the perfect mix of romance and family drama with the right amount of humor and lightheartedness which is typical in all of Kinsella's books. I felt like part of Effie's family as she crashed a family party that she may or may not have been invited to! As she hid and listened in to her family talking during the party, I felt like I was also eavesdropping along with Effie. I loved all of the characters in the story and of this book didn't disappoint with a HEA. I would definitely recommend this book!

I adore Sofia Kinsella, having read all pretty much ALL of her back-list. I think the author has really developed her writing and characterization skills since Becky burst on the scene so humorously, back in the oughts. In Kinsella’s latest, “The Party Crasher”, we find Effie, a conflicted young woman, now dealing with the emotions of separating parents and the impeding sale of her childhood country home. When she is “uninvited” to the farewell title house party, she defiantly shows up anyway, determined to save an important souvenir from her childhood, and ends up learning a lot about her family and old-boyfriend in the process! Funny, sweet, entertaining and charming, I highly recommend “The Party Crasher” to any who love chick-lit or family stories! I absolutely adored #PartyCrasher by the wonderful, Sophie Kinsella. The lyrical writing, characters you root for make this an instant hit. Nothing is the same after an upheaval in Effie’s life. As she tries to reclaim a trinket from her youth, much is discovered over a weekend.

I have been reading books from this author ever since the Shopaholic series and I must attest that this book is certainly very different in terms of characters and humor. It is difficult to warm up to Effie as she does come off in the beginning as extraordinary immature with het attachment to the Russian Dolls, Mimi's painting of the kitchen cabinets and her sadness of Bean''s loss of Peter Rabbit furniture. However, as the book evolved, she realized that not everything is perfect despite how memories can be changed according to one's perception. Like Greenoaks, quirkiness creates character and change is necessary for the better. Family not things are what is important as evidenced by her relationship with her Dad and Joe. It ended very strongly.

Kinsella’s books are like a warm hug and this one is no different! This tale of a fractured family will make you laugh and frustrated at the same time. Colorful and likable characters make this book an enjoyable and easy read!

This book is a big win for me! I always have a great interest to read about dysfunctional family stories and this plot line resonated with me a lot, it made me remember how compelling to say goodbye your childhood house. There are so many similarities with me and Effie: When I witnessed the selling process of my own family house when I was in my mid twenties, I was recently resigned from my job, breaking up my long time boyfriend, third baby of the family( always baby, stubborn, fiery one) my parents weren’t divorced but they were getting estranged so when I read the plot, fireworks start to explode in front of my eyes! I screamed “yes” ! I’m reading something similar to my young-unwise-emotional wreck times!

Dear Effie’s last Christmas family party ends with broken heart reminds us of George Michael song and not so bright screenplay Emma Thompson wrote which turned into semi satisfying-bitter romcom with the same title!

She learned that her parents were getting divorce and later she finds out her father has younger girlfriend Krista( 41, Instagram star, acting like ruthless gold digger from the beginning) and when she also finds out they’re selling their childhood house, throwing a farewell party, she gets frustrated, hurt, sad, lost.

Her father stops talking to her after her last argument with his girlfriend, rejecting to turn back to her messages and her probably soon to be step- witchy mother a.k.a. bitchy girlfriend Krista anti-invited her to the party! Effie is stubborn enough to reject her unkindly invite!

But then she remembers her Russian dolls who have sentimental value for her( we don’t know why but when I learn at the end, I have a long “awwww” moment till my neighbor screamed to shut my mouth! Yes, I can be a little exaggerated when I get ultra emotional)

So she decides to crash her childhood house, acting like a fly on the wall, lurking around corridors, checking whereabouts of those dolls, taking them back and running away which approximately takes not more than 10 minutes!

But she didn’t count the bouncer her sister Bean hired. As she hides behind rosebuds to show her dedication to Citizen Kane ( okay I made this up! She couldn’t find any better camouflage) she sees the traitor ex- her childhood sweetheart-her love of her life Joe who broke her heart 4 years ago- now a successful TV star, surgeon is also invited to the party. She thinks he owes her big by breaking her heart into million pieces and needs his help to distract the bouncer as she secretly sneaks inside.

But turning herself into fly like Jeff Goldblum is not easy task. Each time she attempts to search for dolls, somebody interrupts her and as an inexperienced spy she eavesdrops so many conversations and learns more about her family : her father seems like so happy with his new life, her soon to be stepmother Krista plans to drag his father to Portugal, her sister Bean cries out secretly, her brother Gus might have a scandalous problem with authorities and Joe seems like he’s keeping a big secret from her.

Effie rethinks everything she’s known about her family. Maybe she looks only from her own perspective and now it’s time to confront with everyone to see everything from wider vision.

This book was hilarious, heartfelt, enjoyable, quirky, sweet, realistic showing the different aspects of family life.

Romance parts were also sweet, adorable. Sister Bean was my favorite character, protective, diplomatic, genuine older sister who finally snaps back and shared her darker, sarcastic side with her family. She’s my true hero!
