This was a typical Sophie Kinsella book. Not to say that’s a bad thing but it read like any other book written by her. I enjoy her books but it kind of just felt like more of the same.

I’ll admit that I went into The Party Crasher with a bit of skepticism. I loved some older Sophie Kinsella novels but her newer ones were missing the mark for me.

The Party Crasher reminded me of the older novels I loved so much. I laughed, I cried and I was truly reflective while reading this book. The love story doesn’t take center stage but is there as a fantastic supporting storyline. The family dynamics and real life struggles depicted take the cake for me. It’s all told through Kinsella’s signature charm and wit so is easily digestible while still powerful. I loved that the characters were funny without being downright silly which is where I feel some of the latest releases by Kinsella fell short. But not this one!

When Effie's parents unexpectedly split up, she finds fault with her father's new girlfriend and in the ensuing two years, have become estranged. When her sister tells her that they are selling the old family home, Effie declines her last-minute invitation and decides to crash the party and retrieve an old toy with no one being the wiser. Crazy things ensue. Kinsella always provides the same kind of wacky heroine but in a slightly new situation and have it all work out. Effie grows as a person and learns to see her family in a new light too.

The Party Crasher has Kinsella’s trademark humor but also deals with some serious family tension. I always have fun reading her books and this was definitely an enjoyable, charming read!

Sophie Kinsella does not disappoint! I simply couldn't put this book down. Effie's life is turned upside-down when her parents decide to get a divorce, and her father starts dating a younger woman. Fast forward 18 months and the house she and her siblings grew up in has sold and it's time for their final goodbye bash in their childhood home. What ensues is an adventurous night that will have you laughing, crying, and rooting for Effie as she searches for the one thing that she just cant leave behind. If you haven't read a Sophie Kinsella novel yet, you need to read this one!

I discovered Sophie Kinsella late in the game but I do look forward to her new releases. The Party Crasher was a fun read and Effie's escapades in saying good bye to her family house had me laughing out loud in parts. It was an easy read but one that I truly enjoyed.

A romance and family drama that is a quick and enjoyable read. Effie is the main character who is upset over her parent's divorce and her new step mother's decison to sell the family home. A house party is planned before the sale is complete and Effie refuses to attend. A fuuny, quirky story with likeable characters,.
Thanke to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Sophie Kinsella outdid herself with this one. The Party Crasher may not be a work of literary fiction, but it is an enjoyable read with a touch of romance and humor plus a intertwined thought provoking message. My biggest take on this story is that family are like Russian dolls where there are many layers of hidden thoughts, emotions and secrets. Effie's parent's divorce left her feeling angry and incomplete. Her father decides to move on with his life by getting involved with Krista, a superficial younger woman. Krista and Effie do not get along which causes a rift between Effie and her father. Krista decides to host a party at Effie's family home which is being sold, but she doesn't invite Effie. Effie decides to sneak into the party to retrieve her treasured Russian Dolls before they are sold with her beloved home. In typical comedic fashion, Effie's plan doesn't work out, but she uncovers family secrets and learns how to be complete again. I really enjoyed this read especially the laugh out loud mishaps that Effie finds herself in.

I went into this a little skeptical because I've never really quite gotten along with Sophie Kinsella's writing, but I gotta eat some crow on this one because it was a hoot! Not a new all-time favorite, but I really enjoyed the hijinks that our main character Effie got up to and honestly just how all around relatably messy her and her family were. If you're looking for a fun, light-hearted mess of a novel (said affectionately), I definitely recommend checking this one out!

The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella is a romantic comedy but it was a really interesting read. This book is full of the funny scenarios that this author is known for. But it was also full of emotions and entangled relationships. It had quite a lot of real life in it as well. I think my favorite way to describe it is this-- it is a homage to the quirkiness of life and the beauty of ugly little houses. I honestly was not sure what to make of this book at first but I ended up loving it so much. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

3.5ish - I really loved Effie & Joe but wanted more of them. I also enjoyed the family dynamic portion but the whole hiding around the house for most the book felt immature. Had the house hiding been less and the love story been more I likely would have rounded up instead of down.

This was a solid effort from this author, although it wasn't my favorite book of hers that I have read.

This book was such a heartwarming story about family and how our efforts to protect ourselves and the ones we love can go wrong. Full of misunderstandings and comic situations, The Party Crasher is at its surface a fun romcom and at its core a story about family relationships And how complicated they can be, even when there is love and well meaning intentions. I love this cast of imperfect but perfectly relatable characters.

Sophie Kinsella is an auto-read author for me. I’m definitely not going to turn down an opportunity to read it before the pub date!

This was charming and hilarious and heartwarming and everything in between! Effie’s father is remarrying and selling the beloved family home to move to Portugal. He is throwing one last hurrah with his future wife and Effie is having none of it…until she realizes there are things in the house she wants to keep. She turns into the perfect party crasher with the help of her sister Bean and her former love, Joe.

This book had me laughing from the start!

4.5 stars – Rounding to 5 for Goodreads

Another sweet, emotional and heartwarming book from Sophie Kinsella. For my money, Kinsella never misses. Even her apparently less serious books pack an emotional punch. This was another feel-good read- light and fun and sweet and rewarding at the end, as all good romance novels should be. I remain a loyal Sophie Kinsella stan and cannot wait for her next book!

3.5 stars, rounded up

This was such a cute and touching book about a woman whose parents have split up late in life and her father's new girlfriend is throwing a "house cooling" party as they are selling the family home. Effie, the youngest sibling, is still reeling from the divorce and the perfect picture of her parents that she had in her mind. She doesn't get along at all with Krista, the new girlfriend, who she feels is a gold digger and keeping Effie and her siblings from being in contact with their father. Effie actually doesn't get an invitation to the party, and refuses to go on principle. But when she remembers a beloved childhood item that she hid in the house, she decides to sneak in to claim it while the party is going on. What she hears and discovers while hiding and trying to find her item is quite surprising and gives her a new outlook on her past and present.

I enjoyed the humor throughout the book, and the story of the family is very real. I hurt for Effie, but also felt like she had rose-colored glasses on about the past and really didn't want to confront reality about what happened between her parents. The rest of the family was a bit at fault as well, because they didn't talk to Effie and tried to protect her from the truth, even though she is a fully grown adult. It takes a bit of time for this all to start being revealed in the story, at first I thought that Effie was just a whiny brat, but after it was all said and done I could understand why she was acting the way she did throughout. I liked the growth of her character as she is listening to the conversations and having reality shown to her.

Some of the things that happened were just silly, but overall I enjoyed this book. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator Fiona Hardingham does an excellent job at giving voice to Effie and her personality. As usual, I did have to speed up the narration to keep my interest.

If you want a light, chick lit type of book, The Party Crasher is a nice bit of fun entertainment.

As a huge Sophie Kinsella fan, I was thrilled to receive a copy of "The Party Crasher" from NetGalley.

Effie has a great family life... until her parents decide to get a divorce. One last "house cooling" (think the opposite of housewarming!) party is thrown at the house but Effie has no desire to go. However, she remembers that she needs to get something from the house before the new owners move in, so she sneaks into the party. As she tries her best not to be seen, she finds herself in some compromising positions and overhears things not meant for her ears. This was another wonderful Kinsella read - Light, heartwarming, with a dash of romance.

It took me a little while to get into this book. I found the main character’s trouble dealing with her parents divorce as an adult kind of odd at first, but as it got going I started to enjoy the story a bit more. I was disappointed that Kinsella did not use her normal amount of wit and humor in the story (what I’m used to seeing from reading all of her prior novels). Overall a cute story tied up in a neat bow with the ending.
