Heartwarming, fun story that nicely wraps up all plots introduced. It took me about 7-10% of the book for me to start giving with the characters.

A fun and sweet light read that-like many of Kinsella’s novels-is a cut above most chicklit/women’s fiction in most ways.

Kinsella toes the sweet but not saccharine line beautifully as usual, and leaves out a lot of the cringey romance elements that put off readers like me who hate the heavy romance tropes present in so many books in this genre.

Instead, this is a charming and lovable story about friends, family, and the fact that you can always go home again, even if home looks a little different than it once did.

The characters are compelling and appealing, and the humor-ranging from laugh-out-loud absurdist to sweetly clever-is exceptionally good.

This is a terrific feel good read perfect for readers who love some cute humor and warm fuzzies without the maudlin schlock.

After being majorly disappointed in several of Sophie Kinsella's past novels, I was very hesitant to read this one. I was so worried I was going to be disappointed, but finally Sophie did not disappoint me.

Effie and her family made me laugh out loud and feel good. I could understand Effie being "taken care of" by her older siblings, because I am the youngest sibling and my oldest sister always feels the need to step in, step up, and take care of me. My Kindergarten report card will confirm this has been happening for decades.

Effie's adventure to retrieve her beloved Russian Dolls from the family home is hilarious and wouldn't we all sometimes like to be a fly in the room at a family gathering. Effie was and she learned a lot about what her family thought about her and each other.

I loved that Effie was independent and not desperately in need of a man. Yes. she longed for someone for her past, but that wasn't her focus. For once it was a nice change!

I highly recommend this book, even if you have been disappointed in Sophie Kinsella's most recent books.

The Party Crasher is a fun, very enjoyable novel for the audience to devour. Sophie Kinsella is able to balance the comical aspects of family drama with some more serious introspective moments. Kinsella is known for her charming protagonists who tend to stumble into trouble and The Party Crasher follows that general blueprint.

The novel centers around Eiffe, a grown adult who has taken her parents' divorce hard, and refuses to play nice with her father's new girlfriend. When the new girlfriend decides to sell Effie's beloved childhood home, Effie must crash her own family's party in order to retrieve a childhood toy. In the process she learns a great deal about not only her parents' relationship but also secrets her siblings have been holding in as well.

The Party Crasher follows our main character Effie. One minute she is enjoying being with her family while decorating the house for Christmas and then the next minute her parents surprise her with the news that they're getting a divorce.

Now, she doesn't get a long with her father's new girlfriend, Krista,, which has put a damper on her relationship with her father. And still bitter from her parents divorce she is shocked and hurt to learn that her father and Krista have sold her childhood home.

Krista, Effie's father's girlfriend decides to throw one last party in the house before the closing and chooses not to invite Effie. But at the last minute she decides to invite Effie to the party. Effie still shocked and hurt by the news decides against going but then realizes there is something she wants from the house. Effie decides to sneak into the party to retrieve some of her childhood memories before they are gone forever.

While snooping through the house during the party Effie runs into Joe, an ex of hers, and the chemistry between them is definitely still there (but then so are a lot of secrets).

Overall, this was a fun read. The storyline was entertaining and I loved how the party unfolded in the book. I laughed a few times just because of Effie's overall character. The ending is exactly what I wanted it to be - and not just because of Effie's love interest.

It was a good father-daughter story with a lot of strong and light messages throughout the book with added elements of humor.

Sophie Kinsella is one of my most favorite feel good authors. She has made me laugh in every book I have ever read of her's and The Party Crasher is no exception! Kinsella has a way of approaching heavy subjects with a breezy touch that makes them easier to talk about. I enjoyed Effie's story and loved her character! Bravo!

They are throwing a grand party but Effie is originally left off the guest list, then receives a last-minute invitation to which she declines. No surprise there.

Then Effie remembers her beloved childhood Russian dolls are still hidden in the house. What better chance to retrieve them than when everyone is busy celebrating...hence, party crasher! As she sneaks around Greenoaks, she overhears conversations, reveals secrets and sees her family in a different light. The Party Crasher is meant to be lighthearted and funny but ends up a silly mess.

...AND my interest! I never thought I would utter these words but, am I over Sophie Kinsella?! Please let it not be so! There was a time that I eagerly read every new release, got lost in the frivolous lives of cheeky characters, enjoyed the British English dialect and giggled at the ridiculousness of the situations in stories. Mindless chick lit reading at its finest. But The Party Crasher was a struggle to finish!

Was it the main character? Effie was annoyingly not honest with herself. She refused to confront the past and learn from mistakes. And the idea of the whole party crashing thing was just silly. By the end, I realized a whole bunch of nothing happened in the 300+ pages I spent precious time reading. Usually I would have given up at page 50 but kept on because of my loyalty for the author. Bookhearts, take my word for it and pass on this. #IssaBust

Alright - now we're back to the Sophie Kinsella that I love! The Party Crasher was an unexpected delight for me. After not loving her last book, Love Your Life, I was a little hesitant, but am so happy I read this one.

After the sudden divorce of her parents, Effie finds herself struggling to reconcile her childhood memories with her new reality as a child of divorced parents. Things go from bad to worse - first she finds herself estranged from her father and feuding with his much younger girlfriend, Krista, but then her childhood home is put up for sale and her world feels like it's crumbling around her. When Krista decides to throw a "House Cooling" party as a send off for the old estate and Effie isn't invited, things escalate rapidly.

At first, Effie decides, fine - she's not invited so she won't attend the party. But when she realizes that she left a priceless childhood heirloom hidden in the house, and the party may be the last opportunity to retrieve it, she decides a visit to Greenoaks is necessary, but she's definitely not going to the party. Instead, she embarks on a spy mission to get through the house to retrieve her things and get out as soon as possible. Obviously, her plan goes awry and as she finds herself hidden in various parts of the house overhearing private conversations and other discussions, Effie has to decide how to put her family back together.

This one was a little over the top in places, but so much fun. It had me chuckling to myself throughout, always a good sign. So happy to have read this one.

I was reading this, just waiting for something to happen. A lot happens, but also nothing really happens. This all takes place in one location and during one party. I found the shenanigans a bit over the top and ridiculous at times. Some of the characters were pretty insufferable. Overall a fun read, but not one I’m sure I’ll remember. I enjoyed the ending and the character development but the plot fell a bit flat for me. My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

The Party Crasher is a fun story about Effie, a mixed up family member who lets her insecurities wreak havoc during a family event to mark the selling of their family home. Fortunately cooler heads prevail and hidden truths are revealed and a old romance is rekindled which, leads to a satisfying conclusion.

I don’t know why this one just didn’t totally thrill me but… it didn’t. It’s not bad. It just didn’t have me giggling out loud like other SK books.

Liked. Didn’t love! The entire book takes place at ONE family party and I kept waiting for the party to end and it was the whole book 😂 So it ended up dragging for me. But I think if I knew that ahead of time, it would’ve gone better for me.

It’s cute. There’s second chance romance. There’s antics. There’s family drama. If you’re a Sophie Kinsella fan like me, still worth your time!

Sophia Kinsella is always my go to when I need a pick me up or a good laugh. I love all of her books, and this one was no exception.

I usually really enjoy Sophie Kinsella’s books, but this one did nothing for me. I didn’t find it entertaining at all nor did I like the characters. I’m not the Tyler of reader who skips pages but with this book I skipped entire chapters.

Effie’s parents have gotten divorced, and her dad’s new girlfriend has decided to throw a “house cooling” party when the family home (Greenoaks) has to be sold. Effie decides to crash the party in order to save her Russian dolls after she was conveniently left off the guest list. By sneaking around the house and listening in on conversations, Effie learns more about her family, her first love, and herself than she planned on.

The Party Crasher is classic Sophie Kinsella, and it is a fun read! Effie is quirky, her family is quirky, the book is quirky. There were cringe-worthy moments that made me laugh out loud. The audiobook is great!

What a total delight! This book just left me in a joyful mood and so glad that I decided to pick it up.

Effie is so upset when the family is turned upside down with the divorce of her father and stepmother. Krista, who she decides is a gold digger, sweeps in and before you know it, the family home is for sale. When Krista plans a house "cooling" party to say goodbye and "accidentally" does not invite Effie, she decides she will sneak in and get her beloved Russian dolls and no one will be the wiser. Best laid plans.....

What ensues was just so much fun! I loved the interaction with Effie and her sister Bean. And who couldn't love Effie and her ex Joe? He was so game for it all.

Sophie Kinsella never disappoints. I always walk away happy that I read her book. This was definitely no exception.

Effie thinks her parent's marriage is perfect but learns that life isn't always what it appears. Effie finds herself losing her childhood home and seeing her dad moving on from the only other Effie can remember. When she isn't invited to the party saying goodbye to the house, she sneaks in. But not to join the party but to find a childhood toy that means so much to her. In her sneakiness, she learns that nothing in her family is what it seems.
Laugh out loud hilarious and great character development, The Party Crasher is the perfect book to enjoy this holiday season.

I've loved all of Sophie Kinsella's books, and The Party Crasher is no exception! Effie has fond memories of her childhood, raised by her father and stepmother Mimi. Mimi made life whimsical, and her handsketched cabinets are a talking point and memory all in one. At least that's the way she remembers it. When they divorce, that image is crushed. To add insult to injury, Effie's father suddenly has a (much younger) girlfriend, Krista. 

Effie blames Krista for her father's sudden desire to sell the house, and refuses to attend the "house cooling" party. Not that she's actually been invited anyways. Which is how she ends up hiding in the garden when the love of her life shows up for the party. Sophie Kinsella keeps you on the edge of your seat as you root for Effie's success (with one eye covered as you await the fallout).

The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella is a classic Kinsella novel that will leave you with warm fuzzies. The main character is enjoyable and the premise is lots of fun. Fans of the author will be satisfied with this new contemporary that is all about family drama.

Effie is quite an eccentric main character, which is to be expected from Kinsella, as most of her novels have a quirky, lovable character. Effie is having a hard time letting go of her childhood home and will stop at nothing to try and protect it and her family. She also gets herself into quite a few predicaments over the course of the evening that are, at times, laugh out loud.

❀ MIX OF HUMOUR AND SERIOUSNESS

There is a good mix of humour and seriousness in the novel and the family drama is at the heart of the story. Effie’s father’s girlfriend throws a farewell to the house party of sorts and Effie has decided not to go, but winds up sneaking into the party to retrieve a set of Russian dolls that she wants to keep. She sneaks in and spends most of the evening hiding in bushes and under tables.

❀ FUN AND INTERESTING

The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella is fun and interesting, but not my favourite Kinsella. Also, there is some romance in the novel, but the story focuses more on Effie and her dislike of her father’s girlfriend. It does tie up nicely at the end and is definitely heartwarming. So, if you have enjoyed the author’s other novels, then this one will be just as enjoyable for you.

This book does not have the same sparkle as previous Sophie Kinsella works. It fell flat for me and as a long time fan I was slightly disappointed, however, I am sure people will possibly connect better than I did.
