It has been two years since Effie's parents got divorced. Since then, Effie's Dad has moved on, and is now with a much younger woman named Krista, whom Effie can't stand. They are constantly posting disgusting pictures on instagram, flaunting their romance and Krista has become somewhat of a guard dog when it comes to their father..... answering his phone and never giving him their messages. Effie,Bean and Gus rarely talk to their dad anymore, much less see him. Then Bean gets an emailed invitation to a house-cooling party. Krista and her dad are selling the house they grew up in and moving to Portugal. It is supposed to be a big fancy black tie affair. But when Bean talks to Effie, she finds out Effie never received an invitation. Effie emails Krista and gets a passive aggressive anti-invitation, so Effie declines and decides that she will sneak over there while all the guests are busy partying and retrieve her precious russian dolls before Krista can toss them. Once she gets there, she has a hard time finding the dolls and while she is trying to stay hidden and look for them, she overhears secrets various family members have been keeping from her, and she hears what people are saying about her since they think she isn't there to hear it.
This book was so good. It has a lot of good messages hidden into the story, and it was very heartwarming but also had a lot of laugh out loud moments as well. I always love this author's books and this was another excellent one. I highly recommend it.

I always really love Sophie Kinsella's books. They are such heartwarming, comfort reads for me and her latest is no exception!

The Party Crasher follows a woman named Effie. She isn't really speaking to her Dad much because she doesn't get a long with his new girlfriend at all - A girlfriend who seems like nothing but a gold digger, determined to break the family apart. When Effie's Dad and girlfriend decide to throw one last final, epic party before they sell the house, Effie isn't invited. But she has to get in. Left inside are her beloved Russian Dolls from her childhood and she can't let that horrible woman throw them out. So she creates an elaborate plan to sneak into her own family home during the party.

This was a truly delightful read with lots of funny moments and in true romcom fashion, it also delivered a little romance! At its core it was about the bonds of family, relationships and life changes and how we must all learn and grow. I really enjoyed this one! If you're a fan of Kinsella's other work, I would definitely add this one to your list!

A standard adorable Sophie Kinsella novel. She never disappoints. Another charming, flawed heroine, another messy situation that comes together in the end. If only life could be like a Sophie Kinsella novel! I guess reading one is the next best thing and I’m already looking forward to the next one!

THE PARTY CRASHER is the latest gem by Sophie Kinsella, an author I’ve come to rely on for fun, light hearted novels about love, friendship, family and more.

This tale centers around Effie and her family as they deal with the aftermath of an unexpected divorce and selling of the family home. I loved Effie and her antics- I laughed out loud a few times while reading her crash the “house-cooling” party - and really enjoyed her relationships with Joe, Bean, Gus, Mimi and her dad. I found THE PARTY CRASHER to be as expected- light hearted, fun, and a great escape from the world. Kinsella once again captured classic themes of love and second chances, family and loss, while writing a very entertaining story.

I haven't read an SK book in some time - at least not since a few shopaholics ago. This sounded like something up my alley. I was delighted by this book. I didn't think to highly of Effie in the beginning, I also thought she needed to grow up. However, it seems all she went through to find her treasure was just what she (and everyone else) needed. I forget sometimes how much I like these kinds of books - lighthearted but deep.

Very few authors are so good that I don't even read the book synopsis I just know it'll be good. This was not a favorite but was cute. The Party Crasher is still fun, easy to read, and delightful in its own way.

Another wonderful, read it in a weekend, lighthearted, and laugh out loud story from Sophie Kinsella. This one really had me giggling at the crazy shenanigans of the characters. I especially loved her hiding during the dinner scene and having to deal with the dog.

I have to admit, I don't typically love Sophie Kinsella books, But since I got it from Net Galley and it doesn't cost me a thing..

This is a really cute story and I think one of Kinsella's better books. Effie is a heroine you will definitely grow to love and the rest of the cast of characters are full of charm and humor. I wouldn't say it's quite as funny as the Shopaholic series for instance but it does have really light moments. There is a deeper story as well and I did really enjoy the condensed story line and the voyeur situations. Certainly one to get into if you enjoy Kinsella and romantic comedies. 3.5 stars.

The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella follows Effie, a woman who's family seems to be on the brink of disaster. After her father divorces her step-mother, Effie and her siblings struggle with the new woman in her father's life - especially as Krista plans on selling their longtime family home.

This book will hit home for anyone who has a modern family and who can see themselves in a character who struggles with accepting their family's choices. Some of the scenes in the book were a bit unrealistic and over-the-top, but that's a bit to be expected with the fun that Kinsella brings to her storytelling. I have to say that Effie's sister was perhaps the most interesting character in the book - hopefully we get a spinoff series there?

I really enjoyed this book, it was a great easy read and definitely recommend it!

This was the perfect light reading to start my vacation off! At first, when we meet Effie, she began having some "wacky hi-jinx" and an almost naive persona about her. Remind you of another Sophie Kinsella character (ahem - Becky from the Shopaholic series)? This made me nervous, as I didn't want to read another Becky book. But fear not - Effie stands strong on her own and moves past the wacky parts quickly.

I found myself laughing at certain parts, and struggling to figure out the secrets that Effie's family members were hiding along with Effie. It was lovely to see the journey that Effie took, not only to her old family house, but also emotionally as she begins to really grow up, along with her brother and sister.

If you love Sophie Kinsella, you probably have a good idea of her typical heroine: people-pleasing, friendly, kind-hearted to a fault. She would never, say, give a rude gift to her father's girlfriend, or go out of her way to play manipulative mind games with an ex. Sound like oddly specific examples? That's because Effie Talbot, the titular Party Crasher, does not fit the typical Kinsella mold, and would in fact do those very things. She's a bit less grown up, more childish and a tad petty (her family calls it "stubborn"). And I loved the change of pace. I like reading a narrative filtered through a character's emotional lens, which has always been something that Kinsella excels at. Effie's emotional stuntedness is not only the driving force for the plot, it ties to a sense of debilitating nostalgia that I think many millennials relate to deeply.

Ultimately, this story is not about a party that takes place over a single weekend, it's about Effie finding her place in her family, realizing that she can and must be more than just a bystander, in her family and in her own life, and growing up enough to learn that when you shut out those you feel have wronged you, you shut out the chance of hearing the exact words you needed in order to heal.

I actually would love to see Effie's journey continue, and that of her sister, Bean (I adored their relationship). This is technically a standalone but feels like there could be a lot more story with this family if Kinsella so chose.

I am a fan of Sophie Kinsella and am always excited when she has a new book out. The Party Crasher isn't as good as her earliest books, but I still found it entertaining. Her humorous writing keeps me reading whatever she puts out.

Sophie Kinsella does it again! Effie is saying goodbye to her childhood home that is being sold my her father new (much younger) girlfriend after his divorce from her mother. Effie doesn't want to attend the goodbye party, but she does want to retrieve a priceless object. So, she does what any sensible woman would do and sneaks in.

The book explores how families change when parents divorce with adult children. And man, she hits the nail on the head! I thought this book had a little less fluff than a lot of rom It also had Kinsella's usual humor and a little romance sprinkled in. The main character, Effie, really felt relatable and was so easy to root for. The majority of the book takes place in a single day, and I was worried it would feel too drawn out but the book was just the right pace to keep you hooked. This book comes out next month and is one to add to your bookshelf!

A solid 4.5 for The Party Crasher! I'll pretty much read anything Sophie Kinsella writes but she hit it out of the park with this novel.
Effie Talbot loves her family and her family home, Greenoaks. It's a bit quirky but it's home. Until the day Effie and her siblings go home for Christmas and her father and stepmother drop a bomb on them: they are getting divorced. Effie is more destroyed by this news than even she realizes. She embarks on a feud w/ her father's new girlfriend, Krista. And then more devastating news comes: her dad is selling the family home.
When Krista decides to throw a grand “house cooling” party, Effie is originally left off the guest list—and then receives a last-minute “anti-invitation." Effie declines but then she remembers she must retrieve a beloved childhood treasure. So Effie decides to break in to Greenoaks while everyone else is celebrating. As she sneaks around the party, Effie observes and overhears her brother and sister, her dad and her former flame, Joe. She makes discoveries and sees her family in a new light.
But will Effie stay hidden or join her friends and family? Over the course of the party, Effie realizes she has to be honest with herself & confront her past before she can start her future.

I was so excited to receive an advance copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review and opinions. I absolutely love Sophie Kinsella and couldn't wait to dig into her newest release!! As always, she does not disappoint. She knows how to draw a reader in and feel like they are part of the family and boy this family was a hot mess! This is an absolutely fun (laugh out loud), easy read and I highly recommend it!

I think the big takeaway question that must be asked here is, does your past define your future? Effie has a hard coping with her father and stepmom splitting up. Even though she is an adult, Effie ultimately finds herself estranged, and saying goodbye to fond childhood memories. She is adamant about not attending a farewell party that would face her off with her father’s new other half, but she has a precious item in the house from her childhood that she cannot leave behind.

What I Loved:
-the sense and sensibility of dysfunctional family ties
-coping with change, feelings of boxing away past and childhood memories

I have mixed feelings on this one. I can relate to the dysfunctional family construct, and the emotional ties of essentially boxing up your childhood. I understand the intent of wanting to make the reader feel the emotions that Effie was experiencing, but I am just not sure I enjoyed the storyline on how we got there.

THE PARTY CRASHER is the newest book by Sophie Kinsella, an author I have read and enjoyed for years! Effie is struggling with the reality of recently divorced parents and her dad’s new (and much younger) girlfriend. When her beloved family home is put on the market, Effie goes to some extreme measures to retrieve a childhood treasure during the farewell party. As per usual for Kinsella, this book is funny and charming, just the thing I reach for in between some long and heavier books. 3.5/5⭐️—it was good!

Another treat from Sophie Kinsella! It’s all about how, despite love and the perception of permanence, families and romantic relationships can fall apart. The question is, can they be restored to some semblance of the original or are they irretrievably broken?

Effie, age 26, is the youngest of 3 children who have grown up in a quirky (aka, so ugly, only a mother could love) home with a loving dad and stepmom. So, it’s a shock when her parents announce their divorce. Fast forward 18 months and her dad has a new girlfriend from hell and has become someone nearly unrecognizable. When he announces that the family home is being sold, feelings of loss and anger drive the narrative. Effie, who turns down an anti-invitation to a “house cooling” party, decides to sneak in to retrieve a treasured set of Russian nesting dolls and ends up accidentally crashing the party.

The romantic entanglements include not just her father and Krista, but also her brother Gus with his equally bitchy girlfriend, her sister Bean and her fledgling relationship with her new guy, and Effie and her lost love Joe. Four years earlier, Effie and Joe’s lifelong friends-to-lovers relationship abruptly ended with no explanation. Other than one awkward encounter in the interim, they’ve had no communication and no hope for reconciliation. Yet, over the course of the party weekend, truths come to light leading to decisions that will either strengthen and restore bonds or leave carnage in their wake.

Kinsella is always dependable for giving readers satisfying romances with ample amounts of humor and family drama. The Party Crasher does not disappoint. Highly recommended!

I always know that picking up a Sophie Kinsella book is a good idea... and this was no exception!

Since childhood, Effie has adored her beloved quirky home, Greenoaks, where she lived with her parents and two siblings. Coming back at Christmastime always guaranteed a trip down memory lane filled with laughter and singing. Imagine her surprise when she learns that her parents are divorcing, her father has a younger, gold-digging girlfriend, and her childhood home is being sold off to the highest bidder. What happens when Effie, hurt and confused, lashes out at her father and his new girlfriend? Family dysfunction, of course, with a healthy dose of hilarity.

Effie is more than happy to be anti-invited to the Greenoaks farewell party until she realizes that she never collected her Russian dolls which hold great sentimental value for her. She decides to crash the lavish party, but in her own subtle way. Hiding in rosebushes, closets, attics- any place that won't get her caught by Krista, her father's girlfriend, Effie attempts to make her way to her beloved dolls.

Throughout her evening, Effie learns secrets about each family member, causing her to believe they no longer truly know each other, leaving their family shattered. Running into her unbelievably handsome and successful doctor ex-boyfriend Joe who broke her heart 4 years earlier doesn't help matters much... especially when she has to rely on him for help with her not-so-stealthy sleuthing.

What ensues is chaotic, hilarious, and heartfelt- the perfect recipe for an amazing rom-com. Be prepared to fall in love with this dysfunctional family!
