Effie has stopped believing in the happy ever after. Her parents divorce after years of being married. Now the home that everyone loved is going to sold. She wonders how she will have a family since everybody is not home any more.
Sophie Kinsella has not let us down with the story. I loved the personal feel of this one, like the Shopaholic books.

As a longtime Sophie Kinsella fan some of her later books have been a slight miss for me but I’m so happy to say that this one worked well for me! It felt more like her older books with that trademark humor and charm, a slapstick comedy feel that is just really fun. This isn’t all fluffy and light though, it has depth too and it was balanced well, overall a super enjoyable read for me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wasn’t sure how Kinsella would pull off a story that basically takes place in a night and make it full of character development and a fulfilling love story, but I came out impressed. I really enjoyed how the story progressed and the fact that the house was a key element (its own character in a way) of the story. My favorite part of the conclusion was the last page (something to look forward too lol). I think Sophie Kinsella is a fun storyteller and I love that her stories take place in the UK using phraseology I’m not used to — I always learn something new. Overall, a relaxing and fun read.
Thanks to NetGalley for an arc! This book is already out.

Chick lit that is very Sophie Kinsella but light on romance. If you enjoyed her books in the past you will also enjoy this book as Effie tries to work through life changes in a crazy quirky way by crashing her own families party.

I wanted to give Sophie Kinsella another try. But I think it's safe to say that she is a miss for me. But I'm not sure why, I know it's not her writing style as I loved Twenites Girl and I"ve Got your number. I think it's some of her heroines that I can't stand as was the case with Effie in this one. But fans of Kinsella will love this new one.

This book reminded me of my love for Sophie Kinsella books. Instantly hooked, I absolutely devoured it! The Party crasher is such a lovely heartwarming tale. I'm sure we all have a bit of Effie in all of us!

Really cute and quirky book about a Girl who crashes a party at her childhood home and the conversations that are overheard and the things that occur because of it all make for a fun interesting read!
Thank you to Netgalley, Random House and the Author Sophie Kinsella for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I'm always in the mood for a good Sophie Kinsella novel. She's one of my favorite chick lit authors and someone I hope to meet in person one of these days. Her writing is humorous and entertaining. She also gives her characters emotional depth, even though they may come off as flighty at first.

The Party Crasher was a fun story and Effie was a sympathetic character. She had to deal with so many stressful changes at once: her parents' divorce, a new woman in her dad's life who clearly didn't like her, her beloved childhood home being sold, not being formally invited to the "house cooling" party, and realizing she is missing her most prized possession. Aside from that, her ex-boyfriend keeps reappearing in her life and her career is at a standstill. I love how Effie's pride got in the way of her getting what she needed and she ended up sneaking around the house and hiding throughout the party. She learned some pretty interesting things about her family and the other guests at the party. This led to a lot of cute and funny moments.

I liked the connection Effie had with her siblings and learning more about their situations, as well. Krista, Lacey, and Humph seemed more like caricatures but they still added some interesting elements to the story. Things unfolded in a different way than I was expecting, but it was still an enjoyable story overall.

Movie casting ideas:
Effie: Jodie Comer (she was adorable in Free Guy and it made me want to cast her in a book review)
Bean: Lily James
Gus: Toby Regbo
Tony (their dad): Tim Roth
Krista: Lucy Punch
Lacey: Jaime Murray
Humph: Alex Pettyfer
Joe: Ben Hardy
Mimi: Joely Richardson
Romilly: Tamsin Egerton

A heartwarming feel good read that's classic Sophie Kinsella. This novel contains themes of divorce, identity, and fueding, set to the backdrop of a must attend party. It checks alot the boxes for what makes a story fun and entertaining. The banter and character tension are on point. An immersive read that's easy to lose yourself in.

The Party Crasher is a book that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. I enjoyed quite a bit of it, despite protagonist Effie's overall oblivious immaturity and selfishness (which develops into calm wisdom in, like, five minutes?). Sophie Kinsella can certainly write a punch line, and the balance of farcically comical and earnestly sentimental is well done. But the situations that provide this blend of the comic and the touching require so much convoluting and plot-bending that frankly, it isn't any wonder there's literal contortion happening at one point in the story. All in all, though, a fun, easy, breezy sort of read.

Sophie Kinsella is usually a hit or miss for me. I mean I loved the Shopaholic series but I have been finding everything else that isn’t part of that series is something I just can’t finish because I just can’t stand the characters or I find the story to be 3 stars. I was surprised that I did enjoy this book. I was able to tolerate the main character and the story was actually entertaining.
Would I read this one again ? No but I am recommending this to people who like chic lit.

While I haven't read many books by Sophie Kinsella, I must admit of the ones I've read, this one was one of my faves! The Party Crasher tells the story of Effie who has been estranged from her father since she had a full-blown, blowout with his girlfriend, Krista. Effie can't understand why on Earth her dad has decided to to bet on her and at her core, Effie is just not over her parents divorce. When Effie finds out her childhood home is being sold along with all of her memories, she's had enough. To add insult to injury, Krista hasn't invited her to the farewell party. Tough beans, nothing will stop Effie from saying goodbye and collecting some of her items.

I never find myself put off by a slow start, but I was initially hesitant with the pacing in this book. However, in the end I didn't mind it. Effie was a slow grow for me. To start, I didn't care for her much at all. If you're looking for romance, I wouldn't put this at the top of your list. It is far more about the family dynamics, which for me felt like a good change of pace from my stack up until now.

I would recommend this to any fan of Kinsella.

Thank you NetGalley and Dial Press for the ARC!

Received an advanced copy.

This book was both nonsensical but exactly perfect. The main character's choices were eye-rollingly bad at times but I was willing to follow along on her caper as things spun out of control. It was fun to get a backseat to the family drama and it had me feeling things about family and relationships. I'd watch this as a Netflix movie, for sure, and ultimately it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

If you’re familiar with Sophie Kinsella’s books, you know she’s the queen of heartwarming, humorous reads and The Party Crasher is no exception.

The novel follows Effie, a young woman who has been struggling with the news of her parents’ divorce. The fact that she thought they were blissfully happy and didn’t see the divorce coming has really tarnished Effie’s view of what she had always thought of as a happy, loving childhood. It comes as even more of a blow when Effie’s father suddenly has a new, and much younger, girlfriend, Krista, and that he and Krista have decided to sell Greenoaks, the quirky old country house that Effie and her family grew up in.

Effie and Krista have butt heads so often over the selling of the house that even Effie’s relationship with her dad has suffered, so when Krista decides to throw a “house cooling” party so the family can say goodbye to Greenoaks, she doesn’t even send Effie an invitation. Effie doesn’t want to go anyway, that is, until she remembers that she had hidden a beloved childhood toy somewhere in the house and becomes determined to retrieve it without Krista or her father knowing she has returned to Greenoaks. She decides the perfect time is the night of the house cooling party since everyone will be distracted by the festivities. What could possibly go wrong?

What I always love about Kinsella’s novels is the balance between family or personal drama and laugh out loud hilarious moments. The drama in this story is obviously Effie struggling to deal with all of these changes in her life, and her antics as she tries to stealthily crash the house cooling party provide endless comical moments since pretty much anything that can go wrong, absolutely does. I found Effie to be an incredibly sympathetic character, even if she did occasionally have some juvenile reactions to her potential new stepmother. Haven’t we all had some family drama that makes such reactions easy to relate to?

I also loved the dynamic of Effie’s relationship with her sister, Bean, who is stuck in the middle of Effie’s feud with Krista. Bean is just so pure, like a golden retriever in human form. She just wants everyone to be happy, especially Effie, and she tries her hardest to make that happen, even if it means helping Effie with her crazy scheme to crash the party. Another unexpected source of help in Effie’s scheme comes in the form of Effie’s ex-boyfriend, Joe. Plenty of awkward, hilarious, and heartwarming moments ensue.

I’ve been going through a rough time lately so I was really in the mood for a funny and heartwarming read. The Party Crasher was exactly what I needed.

Title: The Party Crasher
Author: Sophie Kinsella
Pub Date - 10/12

Synopsis - Effie goes to her parent's home for Christmas when she runs into her first boyfriend Joe who broke up with Effie abruptly without reason. To add insult to injury Effie's parents announce that they are getting divorced. Her dad introduces him to his hot young new girlfriend Krista, Effie, her dad, and Krista have a falling out. Eventually she learns that her father is selling their childhood home. Devastated and still trying to cope with her parents divorce, she is too stubborn to make amends with her dad. Effie's sister Bean tells her that Krista and her dad are throwing a house cooling party, as one last hurrah. Effie doesn’t want to go, until she realizes her beloved Russian nesting dolls are still in her home. She decides the perfect time to grab them is during the house cooling party, she can sneak in, grab the dolls, and haul it out of there. When she arrives she realizes it isn't as easy as it seems. She sees Joe and old emotions rise to the surface and she wants to avoid him, but she soon realizes that she needs his help to complete her mission. Effie soon realizes things may not be as they seem. Will she resolve things with her father, let everyone know that Krista is a gold digger, or finally find out why Joe broke up with her so abruptly?

My Thoughts:I loved this book and the complexity of the characters. Effie has her quirks, but she soon learns that she has more strength and wisdom than she realizes. As with all of Kinsella's books Effie and Bean are extremely relatable because of their imperfections. I loved the splash of romantic tension which lightened some of the heavier parts. The evolving family dynamic really carried the day.

Reading this book brought back so many of my own childhood memories as the characters spoke about their youth and the wonderful memories embodied in their strange old house. This tale is rich in family interactions, old friends, old loves and bright new futures. Loved every second of this hilarious yet poignant romp.

There's always something a little manic about Kinsella's heroines. A lot of times, I wonder if I'll end up liking them. Again, Kinsella balances out her wackadoo heroines with an end redemption and HEA. Amazingly, the main action of this story takes place over a weekend party where the heroine livens up her journey with some covert shenanigans. The storyline and characters were ok, but this wasn't a strong winner for me.

As always, a great light-hearted romp from Kinsella. Maybe not her best but still great for some perfect beach-reading entertainment.

This is an incredibly relatable story! I did find the main character to be super whiney, which was off putting in my opinion.

If you like family drama, and hysterics/choas I’d recommend this one.
