A heartbreaking and emotional story about two mothers linked by tragedy; Jenna, whose little girl Amy Rose is in a coma after being hit by a car, and Ellen, whose daughter Maddie was driving that car. As Amy Rose clings to life and Maddie becomes more withdrawn and evasive about the accident, both mothers are driven by the innate need to protect their daughters.

As a mother, this book packed an emotional punch and had me wondering what I would do in the same circumstances. Jenna and Ellen are both beautifully characterized, flawed but loving, and it’s easy to understand their motivations even when you don’t agree with their actions. Highly recommended for fans of women’s fiction featuring moral dilemmas, a la Jodi Picoult.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
