This was such an interesting read, I had never heard the story about this true crime (didnt grow up in the UK) but it was very well done and it worked well, I liked the level of research the author had gone into. I keep forgetting that it wasnt so long ago that homosexuality was illegal. The description of the death penalty was very shocking. I then went on a rabbit hole of research.

The story itself focusing primarily on two best friends worked really well.

I was given a free copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

Such a well written book! I was desperate to see Christie stopped. A real page turner, filled with suspense and mystery, it really left me eager to read the next chapter!

The book was loosely based on a true crime story, and it made it even more interesting. Just to imagine that this, this what I am reading, did really happen, made the book feel more real to me. It was well done, will read more by this author in future.

This was an ok thriller with a bit of suspense and some plot twists, I did enjoy it but think I expected a bit more from it after reading the blurb

Apology it’s taken so long to review The Girl at my Door. It’s a book that truly grips you from page one, clear the decks when you start reading because you cannot stop!

There is a good mixture of love and murder.
A story of love, jealousy, and murder. The character of the serial murder based on John Christie is edgy. And the London areas described well. A great read.

I expected this book to be more interesting than it was. There were elements of true crime in its background. But sadly enough I was not enamored with the book. Overall, it was okay.

This is one of these books that leaves you speechless. I was in even more shocked when I realised this was actually based around the Rimmington place serial killer Post WW2.

So we have a few different voices in the book we have Queenie a singer with desires to become a famous singer, she finds herself needing help and confies in her best friend John. John is ex army and raised in a deeply Catholic mother so the fact he's gay and seeing a black man is his secret to bare with fears of being arrested for breaking the law. Then we have Reg an impotent ex army police with a love for prostitutes and a hatred of women so that doesn't mix well! Lastly we have Queenies best friend who has the her whole life planned out for her. Her life always included Queenie but she's pulling away, problem is she doesn't know why.

I honestly don't know how to describe this book. I loved that it was written to fit with the time period. I wasn't sure what the book was about at first but once I realised it involved a crazy killer I was hooked completely.

I loved John's storyline I found it interesting to read hiw hard bring homosexual was during this time period. Not only did he have this fear but hr was having an inter racial relationship was even worse. It was a sad story to read but I am glad I was able to.

Queenie feels like she's our protagonist of the book and I really loved her. If she was written about in a modern book she would just seem like a fun friend . But she is very scandalous for her time and I loved how she is written. She is also really funny although her story is sad. I enjoyed her relationship with other people and felt sad to see how her path does/not pass with Reg our local serial killer.

So then there's reg who is just insane. He has an extrememe fascination with women to the point he starts stalking Queen her friend as well as his neighbour. I was on edge throughout wondering who he would kill. He has an inflated sense of self importance and you can tell that he has mental illness but obviously at that time it wouldn't of been noticed.

I will leave it at that as if I say any more I will spoil it. I have seen there's a program on BBC iplayer called rimmington place I am yet to watch but what I will say is read this book first. This is easily a 5 star book, a great fictional interpretation of true events.

I couldn’t complete this. I tried I really did. I wanted it to be that nail-biting thriller that the premise seemed to portray. It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great. A very slow burn. DNF after 100 pages.
Thank you to the author and Netgalley for approving me to give an honest review.
Apologies for my late review. Had third shoulder surgery and completely forgot to leave my review.

A very clever, and well-written book based on John Christie and Rillington Place. An engrossing and addictive page-turning thriller. Fabulous.

I thought this book had great promise, but ultimately didn't deliver. The historical setting had a world of possibilities, but I didn't care about any of the characters enough to get involved. Additionally, it seemed as if the author was trying too hard to bring current perspectives to the historical narrative, which took me right out of the historical portion. Disappointing.

This book was not quite for me. That is not to say this isn’t a good book just not one for me.

This book follows the life of main characters Queenie and Terrance rather than the serial killer.

Wow!! This book has been one which has hooked me and kept me captive for the entire duration. I have devoured page after page in just one sitting.

This is well written and completely unique to anything I’ve read prior to this one. Rebecca Griffith is definitely an author to watch out for. This is a book that you will not want to miss.

This is a book which is based on a true story and has been one which really hasn’t disappointed. In fact, this book has made me want to delve deeper into the world of true crime. I have loved it.

This is a book laced with tension and suspense, I have found myself completely pulled into the plot and it’s been so well thought out I could’ve been watching this.

This is a definitely a great read and one that I highly recommend.

Atmospheric and sinister historical crime fiction inspired by a historical criminal, set in post-war London, it captures the ethos of expectations and freedom. Well-researched historical details build a realistic world with believably flawed protagonists and a menacing antagonist. The insights into the killer's mind are chilling, and there's a tangible sense of fear created.

I received a copy of this book from Bookouture via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This was well-written and the characters were somewhat interesting, but it read more like historical fiction than a thriller, so I went into it expecting something much different and wasn't super jazzed about the story overall.
