I was so excited to see this new book by Barbara Taylor Bradford. I had read her Woman of Substance years ago and loved it. I don't know whether my reading preference has changed or what. But I found this book not nearly as good. A prequel to her former book, this one introduces Blackie O'Neil, who later marries the main character in A Woman of Substance. I was disappointed in this book.

I received an advance copy of, A Man of Honor, by Barbara Taylor Bradford. This book reminded me alot of, Angela's Ashes, by Frank McCourt. This was not an easy time to live, at all. Blackie O'Neill. Gentleman, true gentleman are hard to find in our world. Blackie is a gentleman, and had a great journey.

Bradford returns to the world of A Woman of Substance with this prequel to her mega popular novel. Blackie O’Neil is only thirteen when he has to leave Ireland for England, he’s lost his parents, his sister and his home and now must start over. His uncle finds him work as a navvy in England. But it’s on the Yorkshire moors that Blackie meets his future, the woman that will shape the rest of his life, Emma Harte. I was a little nervous, A Woman of Substance is one of my favorite books and I was afraid that this book might not measure up, but it really did provide an excellent backstory and answered some questions about Blackie and Emma’s pasts
