A very different kind of thriller. You know who the kidnapper is from one of the first chapters. The question is how does it end and why have they taken Eden.

I loved the short sharp chapters and how they were divided up into time and date sections. It added to the suspense and uncertainty.

Twisty as well as the parents had no clue what was going on. It really made me think about how I would cope if it was my little one.

Relatable and easy to read. A sure fire win

I have been a fan of Gemma’s work for a while now. I have read and loved every book that she has released to date. I read the synopsis for ‘The Babysitter’ and it certainly sounded like the gritty and fast paced story I have come to expect from Gemma. I couldn’t wait to start reading and so without further ado, I grabbed a cup of tea, grabbed my Kindle and settled down for an afternoon of reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Babysitter’ but more about that in a bit.
It took me no time at all to get into this book. I admit that I was drawn to the book by the fact that Gemma’s name was on the cover. Strangely for me I didn’t read the synopsis before I started reading and so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The more of the book I read, the more intrigued I became and the more I wanted to read. I wasn’t quite sure what was going on but as time went on the penny dropped and I was soon able to gather a picture of events. I had my own theories as to what was going to happen so of course I had to keep reading to see if I was on the right track or if I had wandered down the wrong path entirely. The pages turned over at a fair old rate and I soon got to the end of the story. I found ‘The Babysitter’ to be a tense, dramatic and gritty story, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
‘The Babysitter’ is superbly written but then I think that to be true of all of Gemma’s books in general. Gemma has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. She certainly knows how to start a story in such a memorable way that you will remember the book long after you have finished reading it. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fast pace throughout. The story is divided into individual chapters from the viewpoint of the individual main characters and describes events as they happened from their side. Reading ‘The Babysitter’ felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with many twists and turns along the way.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Babysitter’ and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Gemma’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Child abduction is not a new plot line in the world of fiction. Yet, The Babysitter has something different about it. I guess it’s because it doesn’t completely focus on the return of baby Eden. We also get an insight into the mind of the abductor, why they did it and how they are struggling with their morals. Ali and Christopher’s relationship also gets the once over. Instead of being one-dimensional, terrified parents, they are unleashed to us flaws and all, and I liked that. Ali is perhaps the least exciting character but it’s interesting to follow her journey as she grapples with what has happened.

There is one thing that’s getting me down about The Babysitter. The big twist. I’m sorry if this is a spoiler for some but something really throws the story and makes it unique, it just happens a bit too early on. Personally, I would have preferred to have been blind sighted a bit longer. Once this information is divulged, I was able to guess what happens a bit too easily.

Saying that, I still enjoyed The Babysitter. It was a quick read and kept me interested.

The dramatic beginning sets the pace and scene for a twisty tale of betrayal and deception. The reader is given an omnipotent view of events, and the author's use of dramatic irony is good. The main protagonists are unreliable, leading to unexpected twists to intensify the suspense and keep the reader guessing.

The author's original perspective on the child abduction theme works well and delivers a poignant and suspenseful read.

Brooke Simmons looks after Eden, her friend Ali Tolfrey's child, a couple of times a week to help out. One day, Brooke takes Eden to the park. While at the swings, Brooke is hit over the head and Eden is taken. Brooke comes to and is dazed. An investigation starts. Brooke is the number 1 suspect. Brooke claims she has nothing to do with the abduction, but is she telling the truth? Brooke knows something, but won't tell anyone.

When I first read the synopsis, I was intrigued from the start. I love a good thriller and this is definitely one of those. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Multiple times, I was yelling at main characters (tends to happen when I get really into a book).

This book isn't written like your typical child abduction stories. It's told in multiple point of views and the reader knows exactly where Eden is. It's fast-paced and suspenseful. Gemma Rogers did a great job creating the characters as you could relate with all of them.

I highly recommend this thriller!

I was given this book as a widget by the publisher, and it was my first Gemma Rogers.

Here the author puts on show what is the worst nightmare to every parent: the abduction of one's child. In this case the abduction takes place while the child is minded by a babysitter who is also a friend of the mother's child, someone she trusts completely. But there are a lot of secrets that wait to be uncovered.

I loved this book, i was gripped right from the start, it's fast paced, suspenseful and full of tension. The characters are great, the plot is remarkably delivered and the writing style is amazing.

Brooke Simmons is the babysitter for Ali and Christopher Tolfrey’s one-year-old daughter Eden. When she takes Eden to the play area at Bushy Park, Brooke is hit on the head and Eden abducted in broad daylight while she’s unconscious. The police have few leads to go on but believe Brooke is somehow involved whereas Brooke herself thinks she knows who’s responsible but can’t tell anyone.

‘The Babysitter is a psychological thriller of every mother’s worst nightmare, the abduction of her child. We find out early on who the abductor is and why he’s taken Eden, but the drama in the story is what’s going to happen should Brooke give the police the kidnapper’s identity. It’s well-written with a gripping plot with suspense, intrigue and interesting characters, although I didn’t much like Christopher, and I had to keep reading to see where the story was going next. The final chapters are exciting as all the loose ends are tied up and justice is meted out to the person responsible for causing such pain to Eden’s parents. This is another excellent thriller by an accomplished writer and I can’t wait for her next book.

Eden has been kidnapped from a local park while her babysitter Brooke has been knocked out by the kidnapper. Ali and Christopher, Eden's parents, are desperate to find her. Andi is surprised when the police zero in on Brooke. How could they possibly think that Brooke has something to do with the abduction? Brooke loves Eden and she is Ali's best friend. Little do they know that Brooke is hiding a secret.

Gemma Rogers has written another great book. A little girl goes missing while in the care of her babysitter, who is also a family friend. Everyone is desperate to find her. While the search is ongoing, true colors show and secrets are uncovered.

What I enjoyed most about this book was the characters. We learn early in the book where the little girl is but why is the question. One person I did not like was the husband. His behavior changes so much and then went back to normal.

This is a great book if you like figuring out WHY.

I really enjoyed this book. Gemma had me gripped from page one. Brooke takes her friend’s baby to the park only to find herself coming round with a bump on her head and the baby missing. Is this abduction all that it seems. Unexpected secrets start to come out. Will anyone’s lives ever be the same again. A well deserved five star read.

It was so easy for Brooke to fall into leading a deceitful life, after a chance meeting with an ex. She hadn't got over how she had been ghosted by this man, who she'd fallen for. But Brooke still had such rage inside her from a previous relationship, that Jimmy was going to bare the brunt of her anger.
Christopher, Ali and their beautiful daughter, Eden's lives are torn apart in this heart-wrenching story. Keep your box of tissues close.

Ali and Christopher Tolfrey's one year old daughter Eden is abducted whilst in the care of Ali's best friend. Snatched in broad daylight from Bushy Park on a trip to the swings, Eden disappears without trace. Brooke Simmons regains consciousness, dazed from a blow to her head, to find Eden, her best friends child is missing. Someone has taken Eden and Brooke knows who. But it's a secret she can't share with Ali or the police without revealing the web of deceit she's spun.

This story is set over three days and has four main characters, Ali, Christopher. Brooke and Jimmy. Ali wants to spend time with her daughter but she's also desperate to get back to work. Brooke helps out Ali by taking Eden out so that Ali can work in peace. Then Brooke is knocked out from behind and Eden is nowhere to be found.

This story is told from multiple points of view and it's a fast paced read. We find out who the abductor is quite early. Filled with deception, lies and revenge. This is an easy book to get caught up in. I didn't like one of the characters, but it's not the one you expect. A thoroughly engrossing read.

The story of a missing infant told by an author I've enjoyed many times previously, Gemma Rogers. This wasn't my favourite book by Rogers but nonetheless it was certainly an enjoyable read.

The Babysitter started out as a slow burner for me and I wondered if it was going to end up a disappointment but eventually the pace picked up and I was sucked in, flying through those final pages!

Books in which we are told the story via multiple perspectives are always my favourite, I feel like it gives us the opportunity to get to know the characters so much better!

A well written, entertaining book filled with tension and drama. I look forward to Roger's next release.

I wasn't sure about this book to start with and it was a slow burn. It then got really interesting and I am glad that I continued.

There was great character development over the course of the book and I really went with it and got totally absorbed into the plot.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
