Drawing of Leslie's success in entrepreneurship, this book is jam-packed with tips and examples about setting up and growing an organisation. I really enjoyed this book, found it inspiring, and practical. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

In this book, Leslie McIntyre-Tavella uses her years of combined experience running a staffing firm and remodeling/rebuilding houses to provide advice for new entrepreneurs. She uses the metaphor of building a house to introduce the different steps in the process of building a successful business. The book is divided into seven parts, with a total of 20 chapters. At the end of each chapter there is a “punch list”, which summarizes the main ideas of the chapter in a bullet point list format for you to review.

The first few chapters cover the most important initial steps in creating a solid foundation for your business. The author discusses hiring the right people, fostering communication, continuous recruiting, creating engagement and a healthy culture. She highlights the importance of building your brand, consulting your trusted staff, being persistent and consistent, and knowing your customer base.

The middle chapters cover evolving and growing as business. The author explains the importance of empathy, handling setbacks, budgeting, setting goals, and time management. She discusses how to go about making changes, and salvaging what you can when things go wrong.

The last few chapters discuss some of the more difficult parts of running a business. The author describes how to develop leaders, mitigate detractors, stay focused, and delegate decisions. She ends with some inspirational words to help stay motivated even when facing substantial obstacles.

Overall, I found this book to be motivational and inspiring. There is some good advice here, and although some of the suggestions are not as specific as I might have preferred, there are some good tips to follow. A big part of being able to achieve success is believing that you can, and having an example to follow, and the author certainly does that here.

I found this book quite practical. It teaches how to manage and lead people but the most important aspect is the focus of the book. It teaches you how to be an entrepreneur and lead your own business from the perspective of employees and overall people management. The information is practical because it is provided by the author who spent career in owning a recruiting business. Really good points and advice.
