A fun introduction to the At Aunt Cozy Mystery series that left with me wanting more! And what was up with Mr. And Mrs. Higgins? Backstory please.

This is book 1 in the new Cat Aunt Cozy series and it is a good beginning. A few extra twists make it different from other books where the cat can communicate with the main character. Kat agrees to cat sit Lola, Zaira, and Luna for her best friend. When Kat's neighbor is found dead the cats are the ones leading the investigation giving her the clues to catch the killer. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I don’t ask for much, and I know for sure I didn’t ask to communicate with cats.

But when I agree to cat sit my best friend’s cats, that’s exactly what I get for my trouble—well, that and a baffling murder mystery to solve.

Now my next-door neighbor is dead under mysterious circumstances, the talking cat is giving me orders, and my cat is missing, and somehow both are connected.

It’s up to me to figure out how and why and solve the murder in a town full of potential suspects.

I’m going to need a little more than luck and a chatty cat to help me solve this puzzle, but there’s one big problem. I’ve never solved a crime before, let alone investigated one.
Well worth a read, purrrrrrfect for cat lovers.

While reluctantly catsitting her friend's 3 cats, Kat is drawn into investigating a neighbor's murder at the behest of the cats. After a severe electric shock, Kat suddenly discovers she can talk to the cats...
And they talk back to her.

Cute story, more a long short story or novella than a full length book. Rounding up from 3 1/2 stars.

It's always good to pick up a series from the very start and this book Tabby Trouble is the first in Iris Leigh's new Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery series. The reader gets to meet Kat who is cat-sitting for her best friend when her neighbour dies, so Kat gets involved. A short read at less than 100 pages, it was fun, and fabulous and enjoyed reading about Luna, Zaira and Lola's kitty antics. I'm all set for book two!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from the author via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing/author for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a new author for me. This appears to be the first in a new series. This is a short (less than 100 pages) cozy mystery. I found this book to be a bit confusing. One day you can not talk or understand cats and then suddenly you can and you don't have any questions or concerns? What does Kat do for a living? She never seems to go anywhere. Very odd. She lets one of her friend's cats out and doesn't go hunt for it? What kind of friend does that? The mystery was sort of obvious. Her methods were laughable. I liked the cat angle but this just didn't really work for me. 2.5 stars

I found this to be only a short read and the mystery was fairly obvious, but it was still a nice quick read.

This was a fun, fast read. This is the first time I've read this author and I look forward to reading more. My only question is what does the MC do for a living? Why was she baby sitting her friends cats? But overall, I wouldn't mind living on the street and the town seems nice.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Tabby Trouble by Iris Leigh is the 1st book in A Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery Book, and my first book by this author. This book is a cute and fun story about a women, Kat, who agrees to cat sit for her friend who has three cats. Kat knows nothing about cats. When the next door neighbor is murdered, the murdered women's cat joins the household. I did not love the book, and it is less than 100 pages, but I am going to give this author another try. If you want a quick escape, and enjoy talking cats, give this book a try.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This was a must read as I love any cozy with cats. This was a charming fun start to this series. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity.

I adored this well crafted cozy mystery with a likable funny protagnist ( named Kat) and three cats in her care who happen to talk to her. When a murder occurs of a neighbor Kat is involved and attempts to solve the murder. While I figured out the suspect very quick I still enjoyed this debut mystery and look forward to the next in series.

Cozy mysteries and cats are very popular and I was excited to see this new book available on NetGalley.
Unfortunately this book did not appeal to me at all.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of TABBY TROUBLE (Book 1 of the Cat Aunt Cozy Mysteries), by Iris Leigh, in exchange for an honest review. Kat doesn’t quite understand how she ended up cat sitting for her best friend. Kat’s still adjusting to having cats when she suffers three more shocks: her neighbor dies under suspicious circumstances, her toaster zaps her into unconsciousness, and she can suddenly understand what the cats are saying. When the deceased neighbor’s tabby blackmails Kat into investigating the death as a possible murder, Kat finds herself getting to know her neighbors on an entirely different level.

This was a short book designed for those who like cats and cozy murder mysteries.

This book is what I would imagine would be the initial result of someone's desire to write a cozy mystery with cats included. It really needs a good editor. The plot is too simplistic, the antagonist is obvious from the start. And, the methods used by the protagonist to solve a mystery do not bode well for one's impression of that protagonist's intelligence. Does she even have a job? Or does she just sit around the house watching crime drama on TV? Seems like a real dunderhead.

There are lots of puzzling contradictions about the main character. She seems to feel comfortable walking right into a neighbor's home in late evening, sitting down and pouring herself some tea without any invitation, yet can't call those same neighbors by their first names. That's odd. She seems to know everyone, yet there are times when it seems she doesn't know them very well at all. The story line needs some good editing to ensure continuity for both characters and plot.

And then there's the whole cat thing. How does one cat go missing and not even show up for food where she knows it's present? Not like a cat. I have mixed feelings about talking cats. If done well, with respect for the true cat, I don't mind. But, these cats don't have much good to say, and don't seem very intelligent. Not how I view cats, in general.

So, I really can't recommend this book as is. Maybe with some guidance and addition of more depth, it might be interesting.

I enjoy cozy mysteries, especially ones featuring cats, so I was excited to read this one. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. The premise was interesting but I wasn't able to connect to any of the characters and the writing style was clunky in my opinion. There were also many typos and grammar issues that needed another edit to find and correct. I wish this author success but I doubt I will pick up any more of her books.

This was the first in a new series. I am always attracted to books featuring cats. Add to that, the cats are talking! Well I had to read it. I felt that it was rather short; on the plus side it was a fast read. There was a lack of details about the characters that left you wondering. The mystery itself was elementary. I felt that overall it needed a lot more finesse.

My thanks to the author, Iris Leigh, Victory Editing and NetGalley for a review copy of this book.

With an entire page devoted to cats and books (or should that be cats in books), Keli Cat’s Book Corner, on my book blog, a cosy mystery with cats, and not ordinary cats, but talking ones, was not one I was going to pass up, so when I saw this on NetGalley, I had to request.

Tabby Trouble is the first in the Cat Aunt Cozy Mystery series, and introduces us to our main character Kat (no, she isn’t the, er, … cat). Kat, whose full name we don’t learn in the book, is browbeaten by her friend into taking in the latter’s three fur babies—Lola, Zaira, and Luna while she is away travelling. Kat who is used to dogs but not felines is apprehensive, and as she realises before long, quite inadept at dealing with cats. As soon as they come into her home, things start to smash and she finds she is in above her head, having sleepless nights almost similar to having a newborn in the house.

One morning she is awoken by the sounds of sirens and finds that her neighbour Rose Hastings has died—apparently of a heart-attack, but another neighbour, Mrs Higgins (the wife of a former policeman, and the head of the neighbourhood ‘gossip ring’ as Kat has named it) isn’t convinced and tells Kat this was murder. Kat returns home to find Mrs Hastings’ cat Rusty on her doorstep. She puts out some food, unsure how he’ll get on with her charges, but when she re-enters her home, something seems to hit her and she blacks out. On coming to she finds, of her three charges, Lola has vanished and Rusty has come in—but that isn’t all—now Rusty, Luna and Zaira are actually talking to her. Terrified that she has lost her friend’s cat and about how she will now face her, she tries to ask the three cats where Lola has gotten to. Rusty tells her that he will help her find Lola but only once she solves Mrs Hastings’ murder for murder it was.
With not much choice in the matter, and also half-believing that she has gone mad, Kat is determined to solve the mystery and restore the lost Lola before she is locked up! Snooping around at Mrs Hastings’ home (not particularly well since almost everyone notices), and then after having a chat with Mrs Higgins, Kat finds that there was something different at the brunch Mrs Hastings had hosted just before she died (Mrs Hastings hosted regular brunches and invited many of the neighbourhood, including the gossip ring). She finds out exactly who attended the party and decides to tackle each one by one and pin down the murderer. The domineering but reluctant-to-help Rusty does agree to help her out (the killer was apparently allergic to cats), but eventually Kat has to do much of the detecting herself.

This is a very short little cozy (just over an hour’s reading) which turned out to be a good deal of fun. I loved the whole plot idea since while one usually does find cats aplenty in cozies, but not very often do we find talking cats—and while this was the one fantasy element in an otherwise ‘normal’ mystery, it added a real fun touch. Watching the different cats’ attitudes and ‘hearing’ their different voices as they interact with Kat was pretty amusing.

As for the mystery itself, while nothing out of the ordinary, it was fairly enjoyable as well. We had a good set of suspects, though perhaps, one could have done with a few more suspicious occurrences or circumstances surrounding them since Kat seemed to be able to clear them off rather too easily; but with the length of it, may be that wasn’t such a bad thing. Still, there was a little twist at the end, even after Kat thinks she has things figured out, so there is a surprise there (though the reader might be able to guess much earlier).

The only thing I thought wanting in the book, considering that it was an introductory one in the series was more details about Kat herself. We don’t for instance learn her last name at any point; there is no indication of what she does for a living—in fact she seems to be able to get up and go investigating at any point in the day without any work mentioned (one character does ask her to house-sit, so perhaps she is a house-sitter?). We also learn nothing about her family and where they are though it is mentioned that Kat had a summer job in the neighbourhood flower shop when she was younger which is an indication that she has lived there fairly long.

But other than those little niggles, I though this book, though nothing exceptional, was a fun and quick read; great to while away an hour or so. I certainly am looking forward to following the series and hope the same cats continue on, and perhaps take a more active role in future investigations too!

3.25 stars

This is the first in a new series featuring a single young woman named Kat. Kat is asked to cat sit her best friend's three felines. Suddenly, Kat finds herself searching for a missing cat and for a murderer. Her neighbor dies suddenly following a brunch at the neighbor's house. The police think natural causes, but Kat and her neighbor, Mrs. Higgins, wonder about the death. When the deceased's cat Rusty shows up on Kat's doorstep asking Kat to investigate, Kat digs in. Actually who could refuse talking cats! As Kat investigates and eliminates suspects, she finds herself in danger. I would have liked a bit more in the characters development of Kat. Mrs. Higgins is a delight. Perhaps, the next book will allow the reader to understand Kat a bit more.

An interesting short story about Kat, who is left babysitting her friend's 3 cats, who she is clueless about. When a neighbor is killed, and she gets a visit from her cat as well, things get even more interesting. After an accidental electrocution, she can suddenly understand what the cats are saying. Usually that they want more food, but also help her solve the murder. Funny and quirky at times as she stumbles through the list of who may have killed her neighbor. Would recommend and look forward to a next one in the series.

This was a brilliant little read and exactly what I expected from the synopsis, it's exactly what it says on the tin.
With humorous side characters and bossy talking cats, this was a great little read, if you can look past the lack of descriptions and small plot holes.

I will 100% be carrying on the series.
