The audiobook version of this is great and I felt really attached to the story and it’s characters; the multi perspective of different time periods also added a particular ambiance that tied the whole thing together. I overall enjoyed this book and thought the author told a really interesting story.

I will say there where moments in the book where I was a bit confused and the story was sort of lost to me at times. I think there were some unnecessary parts in the book and some things that muddled the overall story a bit.

I do like the author’s writing style and I look forward to more.

"Wrist" author Nathan Niigan Noodin Adler turns an Algonquian legend of the Wiindigo/Wendigo in a truly horrific modern day tale. Adler, being of Anishinaabe descent and a member of the Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation, provides an authenticity that moves the reader to question their disbelief in such a creature as the story moves back and forth from the past to the present.
The first two-thirds of the story were ploddingly slow, but the last third made it worth the wait. Lots of action, creepiness, and legit monsters. Or are they? Is Church, the main character of the present stream, really experiencing these things, or are they the ravings of a crazy person? Is Lockwood, the main character of the past narrative, going crazy or is what he experiences real?
Two things for me that got annoying: First, there were characters who were called one thing in a sentence, and then called a nickname in the next. It got very confusing trying to figure it out, especially because I listened to the audiobook and couldn't easily go back to check which character it was. Second, there were spots where the wording and plot appear to repeat from previous chapters. Maybe Adler felt the need to refresh the reader's memory since the book slips between times each chapter, kind of like a "here's what happened in last week's episode" type thing.
If you're a horror fan, I definitely recommend you give this a read.

This is an odd and at times disjoint story but it is quite good. It is definitely gruesome and odd in places. This book is deeply emotional and can be hard to get through in places but it is definitely worth the read.

Intersting and at times disturbing!
Wrist builds a cast of very interesting characters that are richly developed throughout the novel. There is a touch of the unnatural that provides a solid level of eeriness to the story.

The audio is wonderfully narrated and certainly elevates the novel.

The audiobook version of this book is done excellently! The different narrative helps to breakup the past and present telling of each aspect of the story. Very interesting, and disturbing, concept of the descendants of the Windigo! I really got caught up in the emotional struggles going on with the characters. This is definitely a horror story for Modern times.

So, I started this and immeadiatly didn't like the tone or the pacing of this novel. It was also alot more grusome than I expected so this one is a DNF for me, also the audiobook narrator sounds extremely robotic when sped up to 1.5x speed which is how I tend to listen to audiobooks so this one was just not for me.

I requested this one because it might be a 2021 title I would like to review on my Youtube Channel. However, after reading the first several chapters I have determined that this book does not suit my tastes. So I decided to DNF this one rather than push myself to finish it only to give it a poor review.
